Chapter 32: Holy Kingdom II
I opened my eyes to the sound of battle horns and tower bells. When I checked the surroundings with magic, I saw tens of thousands of demi-humans charging into the city. Just then there was a knock on my door and Neia entered with my permission.
"Ashfall-sama, I won't be able to serve with you for a while because of the war, please take care of yourself," she said, graciously handing me the bow.
"Why are you giving this back to me? I gave it to you, so it's yours now. So you will carry it with you whether you fight alongside me or not. And wear these, too, in case you get hurt in battle." I gave her the armor and accessories I had looted from Buser's body.
"No sir, I absolutely cannot take these, you gave me this special bow." Neia took a step back and waved her hands dismissively.
"Look Neia, I can't take part in this battle because I have to save my strength for my battle with Jalabadoh, but I'm still worried about the kingdom and I'm sending you to fight in my stead so that I don't have to look over my shoulder. So take all this and spread the glory of Ashfall Nightshade on the battlefield." I stroked Neia's hair and encouraged her.
Neia took the items with a completely renewed fighting spirit and left the room after bowing in gratitude. So I sat in my armchair with a bag of popcorn and watched the battlefield. I especially had my eyes on Remedios, looking forward to his shameful defeat against the demi-human kings.
The Demi-humans' attack began with the spreading fire of huge arrows from the ballistae used by the trolls. Then the wizard and shaman goblins cast spells and the soldiers in the towers suffered their first casualties. Meanwhile, the angels summoned by the priests counterattacked, destroying the ballistae and weakening the attack on the castle. Neia pierced the approaching enemies with her bow, giving them no respite.
Meanwhile, Remedios was behind the castle gate, holding the soldiers in battle positions. A few minutes later a frontal enemy breaching force of orcs and trolls reached the gate and began their relentless assault. The castle gate was soon breached and the soldiers faced the troll attack from shield positions. The hot oil and tar thrown from the towers by the mages' [Fire Ball] attack caused a huge fire. Remedios jumped into the fire and slaughtered the surviving orcs and trolls.
But just then four men with overwhelming auras entered the castle. What happened next was obvious, Remedios and her soldiers would most likely be crushed like insects and I had no intention of saving them. Saddened by the fact that I had run out of popcorn, I stood up and flew to Neia, who was now in a difficult situation.
By the time I reached the top of the castle, the demi-humans had killed most of the soldiers and destroyed the towers. Neia was trying to kill the monsters with the last of her strength, staggering back. With the [Chain Dragon Lightning] spell, I reduced the monsters that jumped on the girl to ashes, and holding the fallen Neia, I cast a healing spell on her. The girl, who had recovered a little, looked at me with weak eyes and began to speak worriedly:
"Ashfall-sama, I am grateful to you for saving us, but I am worried about you. What if you run out of magic in the battle with Jalabadoh? Please don't tire yourself any more and save your strength for that battle."
"I realize that I am indeed taking a gamble, but without risk there is no gain. And I had to save you."
"Now I understand what justice is, my lord, you are the justice in this world, Ashfall-sama, using your power to save the weak, to be a hope for the thousands," Neia declared with a strange look that was almost worshipful.
I knew that look very well, it was the same as Nazarik's, but without the lust in her eyes that my women had.
The soldiers gathered around me and began to cheer. Together we continued our attack and with the help of the soldiers who joined us along the way, we repelled the enemy attack. Hours later, when Neia and I returned to the palace with the joy of victory, we received the sad news.
"Ashfall-sama Princess...(Sob!) Princess Calca has been kidnapped...(Sob) Those demi-human kings...(Sob)" One of the female paladins broke the news to us in tears.
Neia's whole body froze with the shock of this news and her piercing eyes widened in surprise. Just then Remedios came running to me like an ox in red and grabbed me by the collar and started yelling:
"Why didn't you protect the princess! They took her because of you! Who knows what she is suffering now, all because of you." She tried to lift me up by the collar, but her already small size could not reach my big body.
'Right now I'd like to tear that bitch's tongue out by the root to shut her up. It would even be a good punishment if Kyouhukou and his family ate her alive with his appetite.' "Commander Remedos, Ashfall-sama was with us throughout the battle and with his help we were able to repel the enemy with very few casualties." Neia said sharply, taking a step forward.
"No, no, no, no! You are most likely working with Jalabadoh. And your goal is the princess and the kingd...."
SLAP!
In a fit of rage from all my overflowing patience, I slapped her so hard that she went down like a fly and I think her jaw was dislocated.
"I never accepted any obligation to {Protect the Princess}. It was your duty as the captain of the paladins and the most powerful paladin to protect her. But you couldn't hold the press and you're trying to blame your failure on me. Aren't you ashamed of yourself, you are no better than a worm, unworthy to be a holy paladin" I cleared my throat, spat phlegmatically in her face and hurried to my room.
"Ashfall-sama, please wait" Neia was coming after me, I think she thought I was going to leave.
"Ashfall-sama, please pay no attention to Captain Remedios. She has the responsibility of the whole country on her shoulders and the kidnapping of the princess has made her extremely stressed. Please don't go away, don't leave us." Neia spoke sadly with tears in her eyes.
"Don't worry, I will not abandon you to the cruelty of that devil. You go rest, the war must have tired you." I patted Neia's head and tried to calm her down.
Neia nodded happily and excused herself. I went back to my room and started talking to Demurge with a message spell.
"Demurge, how is our plan going? Is everything going well and how are our prisoners?"
"Ashfall-sama, of course, since you made this plan, it is in perfect condition and our most important prisoners, Princess Calca and Panel Baraja, are fine. We are not doing any physical labor to them as you wanted, we just reduced their labor so that they are tired and not collecting mana."
"Very good, Demurge, you are certainly doing great work as always. It is very likely that our rescue mission will begin in a few days, so Jalabadoh should be ready for our fight to the death."
"I am worthy of your praise, sir, and if you will excuse me, I will begin preparations for our spectacular show." Demurge declared proudly, then cut the spell.
At that moment, one of the royal paladins knocked on my door and he escorted me to the meeting room.
When I entered the room, Remedios, Neia, the knight captains and the other generals of the other accumulations were sitting at the table waiting for me. As soon as Remedios, now healed, saw me, she made an ugly face and looked away.
"Now that Ashfall-sama has arrived, we can begin our meeting to rescue Princess Calca." The paladin captain began nervously.
"First of all, I want to say that it is very likely that the princess is in good health. Our guess is that Jalabadoh will use her in negotiations or as bait for his traps." The captain's hopeful tone encouraged those inside.
"I am most likely his target. After his defeat against the adventurer Felix, he is probably even more careful now. So first he wants to remove me, the biggest threat, and then he will use the princess to bait me." I declared, drumming my fingers on the table in rhythm, and continued:
"We must save the princess after all, so I will go with you."
"No Ashfall-sama, please don't, you have just come out of the war and your magic is not yet restored. What if you run out of power in your battle with Jalabadoh? Please take care of yourself and don't fall into this trap." Neia stood up and tried to express her concern with pleading eyes.
At her outburst, Remedios let out a huge "TICH" exclamation, but no one paid her any attention.
"But saving the princess is more important than anything else right now. If her captivity is revealed, the morale of the soldiers will suffer and the nobles will begin to stir. Her absence threatens the country with a serious crisis. That is why we must save her." I told Neia the bitter truth.
After hours of discussion, we drew up the plan for our rescue operation, according to which the royal knights, led by Remedios, would storm the castle where the princess was being held captive. If Jalabadoh appears, I will fight him and, if possible, buy time for the knights to rescue the princess.
After a full day of preparation, our operation began and the elite unit of mages, priests and paladins moved into action. After a day of stealth and caution, we arrived at the small but imposing castle. The strong demi-humans standing guard in the towers and the mounds of human skulls foretold how fierce this battle would be. Thanks to Neia's accurate arrows and the professional attacks of Remedios and his paladins, we silently neutralized the guards on the castle wall. Then, with the help of a strong rope, we took the wall and made our way to the inner castle, the building where the princess was supposedly held captive.
After a few hours we arrived there and realized that the castle was heavily guarded and we couldn't pass the guards silently like before, so one of the wizards used his flying spell to go upstairs to the room and tie the rope to a strong place to open the way for us. When we entered the main hall, Pabel and Calca were tied to a pole and the demi-human guards around them noticed us. Taking advantage of the chaos of the battle that broke out in the hall, I immediately freed Calca, while Neia rescued her own father. I carried Calca away from the battlefield, carrying her like a princess, exhausted by hunger and senselessness.
But at that very moment a huge light and heat reflected in the window of the castle. When I turned my face there, I saw a meteor approaching at a speed faster than the speed of sound. I immediately activated [Honeycomb of Mana], the special protection spell of my armor. Hexagon-shaped mana plates surrounded the castle, and the entire area shook as the meteor hit the shield. Just as expected from [Divine-class] armor, its protection spell easily blocked the attack. But at that very moment Jalabadoh appeared and began to speak, amplifying his voice with magic:
"Hahahaha...I knew you were coming here for the princess, so I prepared a trap for you. But I honestly didn't think you'd be able to stop that spell. But that's good, because I would have been very disappointed if you couldn't even stop it."
As soon as he finished, Jalabadoh clenched his fist and attacked the princess. As soon as our fists collided in the air, a powerful shockwave was created, breaking windows, cracking walls and sending the princess flying backwards a little. Remedios immediately came to her aid and lifted her up and carried her back.
I immediately transformed my weapon into a shield and a curved sword and charged at Jalabadoh. Each of Jalabadoh's deadly magic-enhanced claws struck the shield, creating sparkling sparks, expertly blocking my sword attack.
"Hahahaha...I realize that you have very little magic power right now, and because of the help you gave those useless humans, you are not using what little magic you have left. That's why you will die!"
Jalabadoh' suddenly rose into the air and attacked me with [Chain Dragon Lightning].
I dodged the crackling lightning bolts with {Cheater Flash} one after the other and didn't hold back, casting twenty attack spells at once. Twenty magic rings of different colors lined up in a row, forming a wall around me and raining magic on Jalabadoh like a machine gun.
Jalabadoh' dodged some of the big ones, blocked others, but almost ten spells hit him. With the glittering visual feast of the magic attacks, Jalabadoh attacked again and our battle accelerated so much that we could only hear voices, see sparks and spells. As I fought, I was also carefully watching Calca, who had now left this place, accompanied by the soldiers. She had come to herself thanks to the priests' spells and was watching me fight with great hopes.
Out of curiosity, I began to read her thoughts and instantly a demonic smile of triumph appeared on my face:
{If it were possible, I would have fought by your side to the death instead of abandoning you to that demon, but I am too weak now and I know that I would only be a burden to you. You saved me by putting yourself in danger, knowing that this was a trap. So, my strong prince, please don't lose to that devil because I don't know how to live without you}.
I turned my attention back to the battle because it was time to put an end to this. As the shimmering holy light from the sky hit my body, I transformed into my huge angelic form. The white feathers falling around me and my golden aura made me look even more majestic. With the [Symphony of Sacred Swords] spell, I created fifty translucent/gold swords around me, arranged in such an order that it was as if crosses were lined up around me to punish the devil. As soon as I pointed my index finger at Jalabadoh, the "crosses" turned upside down and all of them burned with white flame and flew towards the demon at a speed that broke the sound barrier. Jalabadoh put up a last desperate resistance with shield spells, but as soon as the swords pierced his body, they burned his flesh. The water in his flesh sizzled and evaporated, golden lights emerged from the cracks in his flesh. Finally, Jalabadoh's body could no longer withstand the holy power and disappeared in a huge explosion in the sky. I immediately picked up the Orb of Death, which took no damage, teleported it to Nazarik and landed on the ground exhausted, as if I had spent too much mana.
Despite Remedios' firm objection, Calca came running and hugged me tightly, as if she was afraid of losing me. She buried her beautiful face in my chest, crying softly, calling my name, and I soothed her by lovingly stroking her golden hair. I took her face in my hands and wiped the tears from her reddened eyes.
"At last I was able to free you and your people from the tyranny of that evil and avenge the brave warriors who sacrificed themselves for this land." My words were dripping with pride.
Calca took my right hand and held it tightly against her own chest. Her heart was beating wildly and her face, flushed to the ears, shone with joy. I leaned down slightly and brought Calca's face close to mine. Calca knew what was about to happen, so she closed her eyes in anticipation. I kissed her gently on the lips and the soldiers around us began to applaud us, rejoicing with all their hearts. I sneaked a look at Remedios through the soldiers' cheers. She was clenching her teeth so hard that every muscle in her jaw was defined and her face was contorted as if she had eaten shit. Seeing her trembling with anger made me feel a sense of pride, but I turned my attention back to the angel hugging me tightly. I kissed her forehead affectionately and left the city in the carriage with her.
Although Remedios wanted to ride in the same car with us, Calca personally objected to her, which made me extremely happy. Calca stayed with me the whole way, falling asleep on my lap, murmuring words of love. But halfway there I had to wake her up, even though I didn't want to, because we were going to have a parade in the city to celebrate our victory, and the two of us were going to go first.
As soon as we entered the city gates on white horses, we were greeted by the enthusiastic celebrations of the masses of people. People were expressing their joy with cheers and loud applause, admiring their heroes.

I will tell you a few important things:
1) When should Ashfall tell the women the truth about Felix?
2) There may be more R-18 content in future episodes because they are important for the end of the story.
