Overlord: Enter The New World

Chapter 18: Verdant Memories

The rhythmic howl of the wind cascaded through the Shattered Pine Ravine, the rocky expanse echoing with distant growls of the wildlife that lurked in its shadows. Dawnfyr stood tall amid the debris of his most recent battle, the green vine-like markings on his skin glowing faintly against the muted hues of the rugged cliffs.

Marcus opened his character sheet, observing the nearly filled XP bar with satisfaction. One final push, one more grind, and he'd reach Level 15. That milestone meant new skill upgrades for his Swordsman class and even more possibilities to level his Dryad subclass.

"Not bad," Marcus muttered. "Let's wrap this up."

His gaze locked onto a group of Ravine Wyrms, snake-like creatures with rocky scales that blended seamlessly into the cliffs. They slithered out of the crevices, their glowing amber eyes fixated on Dawnfyr. Marcus gripped Crimson Fang, his confidence brimming as he activated Fearsome Aura.

The first wyrm lunged, its fangs glinting as they aimed for his leg. Marcus dodged, countering with a rapid succession of strikes using Quick Slash.

Damage Dealt: 80 Physical ATK per strike.

Damage Taken: None (dodged attack).

Two more wyrms followed, their coiled bodies hurling toward him simultaneously. Marcus activated Blossom Shield to reduce the incoming damage, then followed up with Sylvan Strike, his blade glowing with spectral energy as it cleaved through their rocky hides.

Damage Dealt with Sylvan Strike: 90 Physical ATK + 40 Magic ATK.

Damage Taken: 30 Physical ATK (tail swipe).

The final wyrm hissed, its body shimmering as it unleashed a petrifying glare. Marcus winced as the Stun Effect took hold for three seconds, giving the creature an opening to land a devastating strike.

Damage Taken: 50 Physical ATK.

As his HP bar dipped dangerously close to half, Marcus activated Verdant Cascade, his Tier III magic. The massive wave of roots and thorns engulfed the remaining wyrm, dealing consistent damage until its body collapsed into fragments.

Damage Dealt with Verdant Cascade: 120 Magic ATK.

Healing Received: +15% HP (forest synergy).

A familiar notification pinged in Marcus's HUD:

Experience Gained: 1,200 XP.

Level Up: 14 -> 15.

Marcus grinned, his fingers tapping excitedly on his controls. "Finally," he muttered. "Level 15. Let's see what's new."

New Skill Unlocked: Blade Storm (Swordsman Tier II)

Description: Unleashes a whirlwind of strikes, dealing AoE damage to all enemies within range.

Damage: 100 Physical ATK per target.

Cooldown: 5 minutes.

"Now that's what I'm talking about," Marcus said, equipping the new skill. "This is gonna change everything."

As Marcus checked his map for his next destination, a faint glow caught his attention. The Shard of Verdant Memory hovered in his inventory, its light pulsing stronger than before. He pulled it out, watching as its glow intensified, projecting a faint image into the air—a map of Alfheim, with three locations marked:

The Singing Glade—a serene forest filled with magical wildlife.

The Cradle of Roots—a hidden grotto rumored to house ancient Dryad relics.

The Verdant Aerie—a towering structure built atop a massive tree.

A new objective appeared:

Sanctuary Locations Revealed: Progress to each sanctuary to awaken the Queen's essence. Progress: 0/3.

Marcus's expression hardened with determination. "Three sanctuaries. Three trials. No problem."

His first target was clear: The Singing Glade, the closest of the three locations. It wasn't far from Thistlewood Rest, and Marcus could use the journey to further refine his strategy and test his new skills.

As Marcus made his way out of the Shattered Pine Ravine, the atmosphere shifted. The once-clear skies darkened, and a faint rumble of thunder echoed in the distance. The path ahead twisted into a series of jagged cliffs, the landscape suddenly feeling more hostile.

It wasn't long before Marcus encountered something unusual: a group of players camped along the path, their gear glinting faintly under the dim light. They didn't look like friendly wanderers—their weapons were drawn, their gazes sharp as they watched Marcus approach.

"Dawnfyr, huh?" one of them said, his tone smug. His name, BladeHawk, hovered above his head. "Word's out about you. Hidden dungeon conqueror. Slayer titles. Seems like you've got a knack for finding rare stuff."

Marcus narrowed his eyes. "What's it to you?"

BladeHawk smirked, gesturing to his companions. "My party and I have been looking for a challenge. And you? You look like someone carrying a lot of loot."

Marcus sighed, shaking his head. "You really don't want to do this."

The group surrounded him, their weapons gleaming. BladeHawk's smirk widened. "We'll be the judge of that."

The first attacker lunged, a rogue-like character aiming for Marcus's back. Marcus sidestepped, countering with Quick Slash and landing two solid hits.

Damage Dealt: 75 Physical ATK per strike.

Damage Taken: None (dodged attack).

BladeHawk followed up with a heavy sword swing, but Marcus activated Blossom Shield, reducing the incoming damage and retaliating with Blade Storm.

Damage Dealt with Blade Storm: 100 Physical ATK per target (AoE).

Damage Taken: 30 Physical ATK (reduced by Blossom Shield).

The party scrambled as Marcus unleashed Verdant Cataclysm, the roots and thorns forcing them into disarray.

Damage Dealt with Verdant Cataclysm: 120 Magic ATK per target (AoE).

One by one, the players fell, their HP bars depleted as Marcus's precise attacks overwhelmed them. As the last player collapsed, a notification appeared:

Marcus sheathed Crimson Fang, his expression a mix of relief and frustration. "Thanks for the XP boost," he muttered, continuing his journey.

With the distraction dealt with, Marcus refocused on his goal. The Singing Glade awaited him, its magical wildlife and trials promising the first piece of the Verdant Queen's essence. As he approached the forest's edge, the faint sound of melodic whispers reached his ears, beckoning him forward.

"This is just the beginning," Marcus said, stepping into the glade. "Let's see what you've got for me."
