Overlord of Heaven and Earth

Chapter 3: 3.The world inside the ancient cauldron

The patterns engraved on the mysterious medicine cauldron seemed to exude an otherworldly allure. The moment one's eyes fell upon it, an irresistible force tugged at their attention, compelling them to delve deeper into its secrets.

Gu Feng became increasingly entranced as he stared, his body inching closer unconsciously. When his eyes were merely a few inches from the mysterious cauldron, it suddenly erupted in a blinding radiance. Caught completely off - guard, Gu Feng had no chance to react. All he perceived was a sudden flash of light, and then everything went black as he lost consciousness.

"Ah, what a wonderful fragrance!" In a daze, Gu Feng caught a whiff of an extraordinary aroma. Instantly, his mind cleared, and his previously muddled thoughts became sharp as a tack.

"Whoosh, why on earth did I pass out so suddenly? Could it be due to the strenuous training these past few days?" Gu Feng slowly sat up, his thin frame rising, while his dazed eyes opened wide. He murmured to himself, confusion etched all over his face.

"Ah? What kind of flower is this? Wait, that's not right. How could there be a flower in my room?!" The moment Gu Feng opened his eyes, instead of seeing his tattered and moldy bedding, his gaze fell upon a strange flower. He froze for a moment, then his heart skipped a beat, and he quickly scanned his surroundings.

"This... Where on earth am I? How in the world did I end up here?" Gu Feng's eyes grew wide as saucers as he took in the entirely unfamiliar environment. The shock in his heart reached a crescendo.

He found himself in a circular space approximately thirty zhang in diameter. Looking into the distance, it was pitch - black. No matter how hard he strained his eyes, he couldn't make out what lurked in the shadows.

At this moment, Gu Feng was standing right at the center of this circular expanse. All around him were strange blossoms and exotic herbs he had never laid eyes on or even heard of before.

"Goodness, what place is this?!" As he breathed in, a strange fragrance wafted into his lungs. In an instant, a sense of comfort, akin to emerging from a rejuvenating hot spring bath, spread throughout his body, making his heart race with even more suspicion.

Taking in the strange surroundings, Gu Feng was certain that he had never set foot in this mysterious place before.

"Ah? There's a bamboo house." While Gu Feng was looking around, his eyes fell upon a bamboo house at the very edge of the circular space. However, being in this completely alien environment, he hesitated.

"Forget it. Even if there's danger, with my meager abilities, I wouldn't stand a chance. Besides, I have no source power and no treasures. Who would be so bored as to harm a nobody like me?" Gu Feng gave a self - deprecating smile, then, shaking off his doubts, he started walking towards the bamboo house.

"Hello, is anyone there?" Gu Feng approached the bamboo house and gently knocked on the door, calling out softly.

Gu Feng stood outside the door, a respectful expression on his face. After waiting for several minutes, there was not a sound from within. He couldn't help but raise his right hand again and knock gently once more.

But after calling out several times in a row, there was still no response, leaving Gu Feng extremely puzzled.

"Could there be no one living here?" Gu Feng pondered for a moment, then waited for about a quarter of an hour. Seeing that there was truly no sign of life from inside, he no longer hesitated and slowly pushed open the emerald - green bamboo door, woven from bamboo and vines.

"Cough! Cough!" The moment Gu Feng pushed the door open, a thick cloud of dust billowed out, forcing him to take several steps back. He quickly waved his hand in front of him, and gradually, the dust floating in the air began to settle.

"There's so much dust. It's clear that no one has lived here for ages." Gu Feng thought to himself as he watched the lingering dust particles.

After about three to five minutes, the dust in the air had mostly dispersed. This time, without a moment's hesitation, Gu Feng pushed the door wide open and stepped into the bamboo house.

As soon as he entered, Gu Feng saw that there was indeed no one inside. The tension in his chest eased, and his heart finally settled. As long as there was no danger, all was well. After a brief pause, Gu Feng began to examine the furnishings in the house.

By the window on the left - hand side of the entrance, there was a green bamboo bed made of bamboo strips. There were no bedding or any other items for warmth on the bed. Only a bamboo pillow, about the size of two human heads and woven from bamboo strips, lay on it. Opposite the bamboo door, under the window, stood a bamboo table, also made of bamboo. Its color was a vivid turquoise. On this turquoise table, aside from a teapot and two teacups, there was nothing else.

Looking to the right, there was another window. To the left of the window was a green bamboo rack. The rack wasn't very tall but was stuffed with things. Due to the long - standing lack of cleaning, everything inside was covered in a thick layer of dust, making it impossible for Gu Feng to see clearly what was stored in the rack.

Gu Feng's gaze continued to roam, and the moment he caught sight of an object directly beneath the window, he froze.

It was a blue - brown tripod furnace, reaching up to Gu Feng's chest. Covered in a thick layer of dust, its true appearance was obscured.

"Could this be the mysterious small medicine cauldron that has grown larger?" Gu Feng stared at the tripod furnace in front of him, speculation running wild in his mind.

Gu Feng had gradually become somewhat accustomed to the mysterious small medicine cauldron's magical properties. It could suck blood, float... Growing larger didn't seem entirely out of the realm of possibility.

"But looking at the thickness of the dust on it, it's evident that it hasn't been touched for a long time. It can't be the mysterious small medicine cauldron that has transformed." Gu Feng furrowed his brow, looking at the medicine cauldron, and muttered to himself, "Well, I'll just wipe off the dust first."

As soon as the thought crossed his mind, he took action. But just as Gu Feng reached the medicine cauldron and was about to start cleaning the dust, a beam of light suddenly shot out from it. The beam hurtled straight towards the unsuspecting Gu Feng and, in an instant, penetrated his mind.

This time, however, Gu Feng didn't lose consciousness. His head merely felt a throbbing pain, and at the same time, he had the distinct feeling that something new had been added to his mind.

"I am Tian Yisheng, a ninth - rank high - level master - grade alchemist."

Just as Gu Feng was rubbing his aching head in frustration, puzzling over why both the mysterious medicine cauldron and this one had emitted light, one causing him to faint and the other giving him a headache, suddenly, a voice, deep and full of years, echoed in his mind, startling him.

"Who's there?!" Gu Feng whipped his head around, his eyes scanning every corner, but he saw no one.

"Could it be that the beam of light just now made me hallucinate?" Gu Feng looked out of the window, confusion written all over his face. There was no one there either. He couldn't help but mutter to himself.

"I am Tian Yisheng, a ninth - rank high - level master - grade alchemist."

"Ah?!" This time, Gu Feng heard it crystal - clear. The voice, filled with the weight of ages, didn't reach his ears through the air. Instead, it resounded directly in his mind! Realizing this, Gu Feng was so startled that he let out a cry. For a moment, he was thrown into a state of panic.

Perhaps because he had been orphaned since childhood and had to fend for himself in everything, Gu Feng's mental fortitude was far beyond that of his peers. But even with his mature mindset, faced with such a strange occurrence, he was completely thrown off - balance at this moment.

Gu Feng stood there, frozen in a daze for a quarter of an hour. He had hoped that the voice would sound again so that he could listen more closely, but it remained silent. This left him both astonished and even more perplexed.

"Could it really have been a hallucination?" Gu Feng thought, doubt creeping into his mind. But then he quickly dismissed the idea.

"No, maybe I was wrong the first time, but the second time, the voice was as clear as day in my mind. There's no way I was mistaken!" Gu Feng was convinced that he had heard correctly the second time. It definitely wasn't a hallucination.

"Whoosh~~" "Inhale~~" "Whoosh~~" Gu Feng took several deep breaths in quick succession, desperately trying to calm his frayed nerves. Then he simply sat down on the ground, closed his eyes, and focused all his attention on sensing what was happening within his mind.

As he breathed in the strange fragrance, tinged with a hint of dust, Gu Feng felt not only a sense of physical comfort but also a gradual calming of his mind. Just then, his heart stirred, and a series of words, heavy with the weight of time, rang out clearly in his mind.

"I am Tian Yisheng, a ninth - rank high - level master - grade alchemist. Before my passing, I specifically left this memory record, waiting for my successor."

"Ninth - rank high - level master - grade alchemist Tian Yisheng?" The first two times this sentence had echoed in Gu Feng's mind, he hadn't given it much thought due to his extreme agitation. But now, as he heard it again after calming down, it sent shockwaves through his heart.

While Gu Feng couldn't claim to be an expert on alchemists, he was far from ignorant. He had a deep - seated passion for the profession of alchemist. On weekdays, after finishing his chores and daily cultivation, whenever he had a spare moment, he would head to the book pavilion, which was open to all in the Gu family, and pore over all the books related to alchemists. Thus, Gu Feng had a basic understanding of the alchemist profession.

Alchemists were an extremely esteemed profession on the Wilderness Continent. After all, everyone, at some point, might get injured or even be on the brink of death. In such situations, a single pill or a bottle of liquid medicine refined by an alchemist could potentially save a life.

The pills and liquid medicines alchemists crafted not only had the power to save lives but could also aid martial artists in breaking through their strength bottlenecks. This alone was enough to make all elemental - power martial artists green with envy. As a result, alchemists were not only the objects of eager flattery by all elemental - power martial artists but also the most sought - after assets for all the forces on the entire Wilderness Continent. Some small forces were even willing to part with two - thirds of their entire wealth just to invite an alchemist to join their ranks and refine the necessary pills and liquid medicines for their members. It was clear just how highly prized alchemists were on the Wilderness Continent.
