Chapter 13: Chapter 13- back to the apocalypse world
Damn it! If he re-entered the apocalypse world at the exact moment when the zombies were pouncing on him, wouldn't he die a horrible death?
With that thought in mind, Jonathan considered whether he should find a suit of armor to take with him.
[Ding-dong! Reminder to the host: When you descend into the apocalypse world again, there will be a slight deviation in your landing position. You will not appear in the exact same spot. The system will select the nearest safe location for your arrival.]
Hearing this, Jonathan finally felt a little relieved.
Now, all that was left was to stuff the supplies he had gathered into the Spatial Cube .
"System, store the chainsaw, Glock 17 pistol, Sword, and the dog leash set in the Spatial Cube. I need to take them to the apocalypse world!"
[Understood, Master.]
As the system's voice rang out, the pistol, Sword, and chainsaw that were laid out on the bed were all marked with a red projection frame before vanishing into thin air.
At the same time, a virtual inventory appeared before Jonathan's eyes, displaying the following items:
- [Chainsaw (Second World)]
- [Pistol (Second World)]
- [Sword (Second World)]
- [5.56mm Bullets ×13 (Second World)]
- [Dog Leash SM Set]
- [Clothing (Apocalypse)]
- [Watch (Apocalypse)]
- [Homemade Spear (Apocalypse)]
Jonathan focused his mind on the chainsaw , and a line of text immediately appeared beside it:
[Items from the Second World require a fee to be taken into the apocalypse world: $3,000. First-time cross-world transfers are free.]
He then selected the pistol , and another message popped up:
[Items from the Second World require a fee to be taken into the apocalypse world: $50,000. First-time cross-world transfers are free.]
Next, he focused on the bullets , triggering yet another message:
[Items from the Second World require a fee to be taken into the apocalypse world: $3,900. First-time cross-world transfers are free.]
Jonathan focused his mind on the [Dog Leash SM Set] , and just like the other items, a notification appeared beside it:
[Items from the Second World require a fee to be taken into the apocalypse world: $3,100. First-time cross-world transfers are free.]
Jonathan roughly calculated that bringing items from the Second World to the apocalypse world required more than ten times their value in money.
However, the exact exchange rate remained unclear to him.
Still, the price seemed reasonable enough.
"I've already used up $60,000 of my free transfer quota, so that leaves me with $40,000. I'll spend the rest on food!"
Jonathan selected the food and drinking water he had prepared earlier.
As the system's red projection frame appeared, only a small portion of the massive pile of food and water disappeared.
[Beep beep beep… System alert: The host has exceeded the available transfer quota for the apocalypse world…]
Jonathan was slightly startled and quickly checked the system's inventory.
Opening the [Food] category, he was shocked to find that just five bottles of mineral water and ten steaks had cost a staggering $43,100 !
He removed the steaks and tried placing bread instead.
This time, he was able to store much more.
It wasn't until he had packed over thirty loaves of bread and a dozen packs of compressed biscuits that the system finally issued another warning.
Now, Jonathan had a rough understanding of how the system calculated the transfer costs.
It was most likely based on the rarity and importance of an item in the apocalypse world.
Considering the necessities for survival in the apocalypse, Jonathan ultimately decided to bring ten bottles of mineral water, twenty packs of compressed biscuits, some anti-inflammatory medicine, and bandages —completely using up his free transfer quota.
After finishing his preparations, he felt his energy had been drained considerably. Checking the time, he saw that there were only a few minutes left.
"System, take me back to the apocalypse world!"
[Ding-dong! Initiating spatial transfer…]
As the system's voice echoed, Jonathan's vision was suddenly engulfed by a swirl of vibrant colors.
It felt as if he was being sucked into a vortex, dragged deep into the ocean. A powerful wave of dizziness and suffocation crashed over him once again.
A flash of light streaked across the sky as Jonathan's figure reappeared in the apocalypse world!
Opening his eyes, he quickly scanned his surroundings and found himself standing in front of a grand mansion, not far from the villa where he had first arrived.
Looking toward his original villa, he could still see dozens of zombies aimlessly wandering around. The once-massive horde had now scattered onto the streets, and as far as the eye could see, zombies were roaming about in all directions.
Checking his watch, the date still displayed the 3rd , and the time was 1:17 PM .
Compared to the five hours that had passed in the Second World, less than an hour had elapsed here.
Jonathan's gaze darkened as he stared at the villa that had once been his, now occupied by Henry and his wife.
"Roaaar!!!"
"Ughhh... huff... huff..."
"Urghhh... urghhh..."
Jonathan's sudden appearance immediately caught the attention of the nearby zombies. The ones wandering on the road not far away began sniffing the air, slowly shuffling toward his location.
Estimating the distance, Jonathan figured it was about a hundred meters from where he stood to his old villa. In between, at least two to three hundred zombies blocked the way.
Beyond the nearby treeline, a large group of zombies was gradually retreating into the woods.
If he tried to fight his way through now, not only would it be nearly impossible to break through the horde, but he might also attract the zombies that had begun to leave.
Revenge is a dish best served cold.
Jonathan wasn't a reckless fool.
It was midday , and the sun was at its peak. If he waited a little longer, many of the zombies would likely disperse.
Then, when the numbers dwindled, it would be much safer to strike back and take revenge!
For now, the best course of action was to find a safe place and wait.
Glancing at the luxurious, spacious mansion behind him, Jonathan gripped his spear tightly and slowly retreated into its courtyard.
