"I, Mitsukawa Amateran, accept your blessing!"

Tsukuyomi looked at me with a knowing smile.

"I thought as much... Once we're finished here, I will bless Hikari no Ken... But back to your mission. Besides the Imperial Household, we have no leads on the three sacred treasures. You'll have to travel across the land, and we must hope for a stroke of luck.

However, since Susanoo has already announced that he wants to toy with you, the clues will hopefully come to you. And if my shadow finds anything, she will locate you immediately. Believe me, she can find you anywhere...Sometimes that girl creeps even me out...

As you travel the land, keep your ears open for rumors about the supernatural. Even if they turn out to be false, you must follow up on every lead... And if you encounter Susanoo's servants, let your blade speak in the name of Amaterasu! We can use every loss on the enemy's side!"

At that time, I couldn't have known how true Tsukuyomi's words were. But let me spoil one thing: Susanoo's servants did not fall short in number on my blade... But back to the story.

I reluctantly agreed with the god, as in my mind, I didn't want to kill again. But if I found yokai or other spirits and gods who preyed on humans... I couldn't say I would hesitate...

"Alright then! Let's go to the garden, and I'll bless your katana. Afterward, we'll have one last spar so you can get used to your new blade and enhanced senses..."

We walked together to the garden, and Tsukuyomi stretched out his open palms. I immediately understood and handed him Hikari no Ken. The god took my blade in hand and began to examine it closely.

"A fine katana, excellent craftsmanship, and Amaterasu's blessing is masterfully woven into it... I think I know where I'll enhance it... You've recently been using techniques that mimic the quick drawing of your sword, like your Shishi Sonson... It's a shame you don't have a sheath for your katana... Hmm, this should work..." Tsukuyomi mused aloud and held his palms over the blade.

Immediately, I saw changes in the mist. The environment filled with the night-black mist, which I interpreted as a reflection of Tsukuyomi's divinity. It flowed around my blade, bathing it in a silver light. I watched as the black mist condensed around my sword, forming a black sheath.

The contrast with the sunbeam-colored blade looked beautiful in the mist, and I could imagine how stunning the sword must appear with seeing eyes. Once the sheath was finished, I felt my connection to Hikari no Ken grow stronger and more... substantial? I called for my katana, and as if on command, it appeared in my hand.

"The blessing is given... As you've seen, I took the liberty of crafting a matching sheath for your katana. Unfortunately, I had to give up the ability to transform it into a talisman, but I've added a new transformation.

As long as the sword is in its sheath, it will appear as a blind man's cane. Once you draw the hilt, it transforms into your katana. I know the transformation isn't as handy as before, but your blade is now much stronger and sharper. Plus, you won't look as silly when you use your kenjutsu..."

"But I'm not blind..." I said a bit sheepishly, holding the cane in my hand.

"Well, not exactly... but never mind, what's more important are the effects of the blessing. As I've already explained, by blessing your soul through your connection to Hikari no Ken, all the effects will unfold over time, as even I can't predict them 100%. But one thing I do know: by strengthening your soul, your supernatural abilities have increased. You'll be able to channel more holiness into your body, and your resistance to the supernatural has also increased. But enough talk, my mouth is getting dry. Let our swords do the talking before you depart!"

Two hours later, I lay completely exhausted on my back, trying to get my breathing under control.

All in all, I would say the fight went well, even though I initially struggled to adapt to my changes. Thanks to the earrings, my senses were so incredibly heightened that, at first, I had difficulty filtering out the unnecessary ones.

But once I got the hang of it, I was able to give Tsukuyomi a fight like never before. I could also feel the improvement in my soul directly—my body was stronger and faster than ever.

Moreover, I could hold more of the blessing within me, and my flames burned significantly hotter.

But just as Tsukuyomi was satisfied with me, he became more serious. Faster than I could react, he was in front of me, hitting me in the gut with one hand while using the other to hold his katana and light a cigarette off my burning eye.

And that hurt. Not just physically but also my pride. But when I glared at him and fell backward, he just laughed and took a long drag on his smoke.

"Don't worry about it, Amateran-kun! You're much stronger today than you were yesterday. And tomorrow, you'll be even stronger. You've got talent, that much you've proven to me! And who knows, maybe in a few years, you'll even be able to defeat me... though I highly doubt it!" the god laughed right in my face.

Slowly, I picked myself up and sat down on the grass. My thoughts wandered to my mission, and my eyes showed determination. I was ready—at least, as ready as I could be.

"I think it's time, Tsukuyomi-sensei. I'll have to say goodbye now. And I'll start with you... Thank you for everything you've done for me! I hope you continue to have wonderful and fun nights, and hopefully, we'll meet again!" I said with a slightly sad voice and bowed deeply.

I knew how much the god had done for me—that despite his quirky and sometimes slightly sadistic nature, he had been my dedicated sensei these past few months.

"Amateran-kun, I hope we meet again too. I hope so for the sake of humanity... don't die, my boy, the world needs you... I hope for all our sakes that you complete your mission successfully..." Tsukuyomi said with an emotional voice, then surprised me by pulling me into a hug.

"And now go to your parents and say a proper goodbye! They deserve it... especially your mother... damn, I'm going to miss her okonomiyaki! Maybe I'll drop by from time to time to check on breakfast?"

I smiled at the god's words and told him, "My parents would definitely be happy!", as I watched the mist slowly engulf him until I was standing alone in the garden.

"Granny, I'll say goodbye to my parents quickly and then come to pray to you at the shrine!" I shouted towards the Amaterasu shrine in the garden before running into the house.

And well, I said goodbye to my parents. Honestly, I don't want to bore you with details. The farewell lasted almost two hours, full of tears, hugs, more tears, and above all, promises I had to make to my parents. I promised them everything, even though we all knew I might not be able to keep those promises. No one could say if I would return safely, but I promised anyway. And what you promise, you have to keep, right?

Two hours later, I came out of the house and walked towards the shrine, my eyes puffy and red from crying. How that was possible with my milky white eyes, don't ask me—ask my dad, who teased me about it.

As I had done the last few times, I meticulously followed the old rituals before clapping my hands twice and starting to pray to Amaterasu. Why did I stick to the formalities even though Granny didn't want me to? Maybe because it felt right, or maybe because it annoyed her...

"Granny, lastly, I want to say goodbye to you..."

"Why say goodbye?! Have you already forgotten that I'm always with you? Or are you planning to leave me for that old stinker Tsukuyomi?"

"No, no, absolutely not! I love you, Granny, and I want to be your blade until the end of my life. But I've made a decision. You probably feel it yourself, but I have a sense that you're not particularly good at multitasking...

I don't want you to neglect your duties because of me, especially now that you're carrying such a heavy burden because of Susanoo...

I know you're always in my heart and hear my prayers at any time. I know you'll never abandon me. But I also know that your thoughts and attention are needed elsewhere. That's why I want you to focus on your duties in heaven, and I'll focus on mine.

And if I need you, I'll pray to you. And if you need me or just want to chat, all you have to do is speak to me, and I'll be there for you!"

"Ama-chan, my little blade... you don't need to worry about me; I can handle it. I promised you I'd never leave you alone again, and I intend to keep that promise!"

"I know you'd never leave me... but I have to be able to complete my mission alone too. I love you, and I appreciate every bit of support you give me, but I also need to be able to act independently. I have to grow up eventually..."

Amaterasu fell silent for a few seconds. Uncertainty, and even a bit of fear of being alone, spread through me until it turned into determination. Amaterasu had her duties to fulfill, and I had mine.

Finally, Amaterasu said, "Alright, Ama-chan. I agree, but only on the condition that you pray to me immediately if you need anything and that we speak at least once a day!"

I gratefully agreed to her terms and smiled at the love Amaterasu showed me.

"Thank you, Amaterasu-kami! So, let's begin!"

"My blade on earth! I have a task for you. The three sacred treasures of the Imperial Family have been stolen! Your task is to retrieve them, for the sake of humanity and the ancient pact!" Amaterasu's voice thundered through the garden.

"My sun. My lady. You call upon your blade to uphold the ancient pact. I, Amaterasu's blade, heed your call and will follow your orders!" I said, completing the prayer ritual. I turned away from the shrine and started walking.

"Good luck, my little blade!" I heard Amaterasu's voice from the shrine, and without turning around, I said, "Thank you, Granny!"

My steps carried me out of the garden. My parents and I had agreed that they wouldn't wait for my departure, to make the farewell less difficult.

I left the garden and the property, taking one last look back before heading toward the train station.

Then I stopped abruptly and prayed silently to Amaterasu: "Uh, very embarrassing, Granny... where exactly is the Imperial Family?"
