Percy Jackson and The Wizarding World

Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Riptide vs. Wand

Percy paced the Gryffindor common room, his mind racing after his stealthy visit to the Slytherin common room. Malfoy's words echoed in his head: "It's just a matter of time before he finishes what he started." That could only mean one thing—whoever the Heir of Slytherin was, they were planning something big, and soon.

"You're going to wear a hole in the floor," Hermione said from her armchair, flipping through Hogwarts: A History while glancing at him with concern.

Percy stopped pacing and flopped onto the couch next to Ron, who was busy playing wizard chess against himself. "We need to figure out who this 'Heir' is before things get worse," Percy said.

Ron shrugged, watching his knight smash a pawn to pieces. "Well, you could always just punch Malfoy until he talks. That usually works for you, right?"

Percy smirked. "Tempting. But I think Snape would love an excuse to kick me out."

Harry leaned in. "We need to be smart about this. Maybe there's something in the castle records, like a list of Slytherin descendants?"

Hermione perked up. "That's actually not a bad idea. If we can get access to the Restricted Section—"

Percy groaned. "I'm getting flashbacks to my demigod quests already. Breaking into dangerous places, sneaking around teachers, and finding ancient artifacts. Why does it always have to be the hard way?"

Ron snorted. "Welcome to Hogwarts, mate."

Before Percy could respond, the common room portrait swung open, and Professor McGonagall strode in, looking as stern as ever.

"Mr. Jackson," she said crisply, her eyes locking onto him. "Professor Snape has requested your presence in the Dueling Club tonight. He believes you need to… refine your technique."

Percy raised an eyebrow. "Refine, or humiliate?"

McGonagall's lips twitched slightly. "That remains to be seen. Be in the Great Hall after dinner."

With that, she left, leaving Percy staring at the doorway.

"Dueling Club?" Harry said, looking concerned. "Be careful, Percy. Snape's going to want to embarrass you in front of everyone."

Percy grinned. "Please, I've fought worse. A wand duel should be a piece of cake."

Ron winced. "Famous last words, mate."

Later That Evening – The Great Hall

The Great Hall had been transformed into a dueling stage, with students gathered eagerly to watch. The tables had been pushed aside, and a long, raised platform stood in the center. Professors Snape and Lockhart stood at the head of the hall, Lockhart wearing his usual obnoxious smile.

"Welcome, students, to the Hogwarts Dueling Club!" Lockhart announced grandly, striking a dramatic pose. "Tonight, we'll be honing our self-defense skills with a few… friendly duels."

Percy rolled his eyes. Friendly? Yeah, right.

Snape's eyes locked onto Percy, and his sneer deepened. "Mr. Jackson, step forward."

Percy climbed onto the stage, feeling the weight of hundreds of eyes on him. He could hear whispers among the students.

"That's the new American kid, right?"

"Yeah, heard he's really good at dueling."

"I bet Malfoy takes him down in seconds."

Percy ignored the comments and stood tall. Snape, ever the showman when it came to humiliation, gestured to the opposite end of the platform.

"Your opponent… Mr. Malfoy."

Malfoy sauntered onto the stage with his usual smug expression, his wand twirling between his fingers. "Ready to lose, Jackson?"

Percy smirked. "I've faced worse things than your hair gel, Malfoy."

"Bow," Snape ordered.

Percy gave a half-hearted bow, while Malfoy barely dipped his head. They both took their stances, wands at the ready.

"Three… two… one… begin!" Lockhart announced with far too much enthusiasm.

Malfoy wasted no time, firing off a spell. "Expelliarmus!"

Percy dodged easily, sidestepping the red beam of magic. His instincts kicked in, and instead of using his wand, he uncapped Riptide in one fluid motion.

Gasps erupted around the hall as the celestial bronze blade shimmered in the dim light.

"What the—he's using a sword?!"

Snape's eyes narrowed dangerously, but Percy didn't care. Malfoy fired another spell, but Percy deflected it with Riptide's blade, sending the spell ricocheting off into the crowd, causing students to duck.

"Hey!" Malfoy sputtered. "You can't do that!"

Percy smirked. "Why not? No rules against it, right?"

Snape's voice cut through the air. "Put that thing away, Mr. Jackson. This is a wizard's duel, not a barbaric display of brute force."

Percy hesitated but sighed, capping Riptide back into pen form. "Fine, fine."

Malfoy took advantage of the distraction. "Petrificus Totalus!"

Percy instinctively threw up his arm, and to everyone's shock, the spell fizzled before it even reached him.

"What?!" Malfoy gawked.

Hermione, watching from the crowd, whispered, "It's his demigod aura… magic doesn't affect him like it should."

Percy shrugged, raising his wand. "My turn."

He flicked his wand, and with a surge of effort, shouted, "Flipendo!"

Malfoy was thrown backward like he'd been hit by a tidal wave, tumbling off the stage and landing in a heap.

The Gryffindor table erupted in cheers, while the Slytherins looked furious. Percy twirled his wand with a grin. "Huh. Maybe magic's not so bad after all."

Snape looked livid. "Enough!" He glared at Percy. "Detention, Mr. Jackson. For… improper use of weaponry."

Percy shrugged. "Worth it."

Lockhart clapped awkwardly. "Well! What a show of talent! That, students, is the essence of defensive magic!"

Percy rolled his eyes. "Yeah, sure, Lockhart. Whatever you say."

Later That Night – Gryffindor Tower

Harry and Ron were still laughing as they sat by the fireplace, recalling Malfoy's stunned expression.

"That was brilliant, Percy!" Ron said. "I've never seen him look so humiliated!"

Percy grinned. "Yeah, well, it was fun while it lasted. Now I just have to survive Snape's detention."

Hermione, however, looked more serious. "Percy, you need to be careful. You're already drawing too much attention."

Percy sighed. "Yeah, I know. I just… I can't help it. It's in my DNA."

She smiled slightly. "Well, at least now we know you're good with spells."

Percy leaned back, staring into the fire. "Yeah… but dueling Malfoy was easy. Figuring out what's really going on with this Chamber of Secrets? That's going to be the hard part."
