Percy Jackson: Son of Hades - Prince of the Underworld

Chapter 206: Chapter 206: Coven

[Third Person's PoV]

"Mother… My dearest mother! How could you do this to me?! I thought you loved me!" Lucian cried out, his voice heavy with frustration as he glared at the image of Medea shimmering in the crimson crystal ball before him.

Medea rolled her eyes, her tone dripping with mock exasperation. "Oh, stop being so dramatic. It's just school. And for the record, I'm doing this because I love you, silly. It's for your own good." A smug smile curled her lips as she leaned closer to the crystal ball.

Lucian clenched his fists around the edges of the crystal ball's stand. "If it was for my own good, you'd know school isn't beneficial for me in the slightest! I have training to do, studies to conduct, preparations to make! How am I supposed to do all that if I'm stuck at school?"

"Lucian, sweetheart…" Medea's voice softened, though her expression remained aloof. "You need a hobby. You can't just train all day, every day. You need breaks, something fun that doesn't involve obsessing over growing stronger."

"Smithing is my hobby! I don't need another one!" Lucian retorted, his tone laced with irritation. "Mother, you're killing me here!"

Medea scoffed lightly. "When I say fun, I mean something relaxing—something that doesn't involve you working toward strength or mastery. You know, like sports or maybe some lighthearted reading."

"But—"

"No buts, Lucy," Medea interrupted, her tone firm but gentle. "When I say I'm doing this for your own good, I mean it. I don't want your life to revolve solely around training and goals. You're still a kid, and I want you to experience things kids do. I don't want you to miss out on your youth."

Lucian opened his mouth to argue but froze at the affectionate look in her eyes. Medea's voice softened further as she continued, "I don't want you to regret anything when you finally achieve your goals. I want you to look back and be glad you lived your life fully, even if you hated some of it at the time. No mother wants their child to experience regret, and I certainly don't want that for you."

Lucian groaned, dropping his head onto the headrest of his chair. "Ughhh, why do you make it so hard to dislike you? You know I can't say no to you when you look at me like that or say something so sweet and sincere!"

Medea chuckled softly, watching as Lucian propped his chin on his crossed arms. She pressed a hand to her lips and blew him a kiss. "Love you too, honey~"

Lucian's cheeks flushed red, and he turned his face away with a grumble. "If you really loved me, you wouldn't send me to school…"

Medea laughed. "Oh, don't worry. I already spoke with Hades. Bianca and Nico are going, too. And if you talk to Annabeth and Thalia, I'm sure they'll join you."

"Yay…" Lucian muttered, lifting a fist half-heartedly in mock enthusiasm.

Medea chuckled again. "Oh, man up, you big baby. Besides, you still have the entire summer to enjoy yourself. You won't start until September."

Lucian gave her a blank look, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Uh-huh… So, is this the only reason you called? To ruin my summer with dread?"

"Not entirely," Medea said, lifting a finger with a sly smile. "I have something else to tell you."

"What's next? Are you going to tell me you've enrolled me in a summer school to make up for all of the school I missed so I can catch up or something stupid like that?" Lucian scoffed.

"No Lucy, I know you're smarter than that. So there won't be a need for you to do all that" Medea said, waving him off.

She had a more relaxed demeanor as she said, "It's related to you finding out you're a Witch, or rather a 'Warlock' is you prefer that term"

"Huh?" Lucian asked, looking at her in confusion, "A Warlock?"

"A Warlock is another name for a Male Witch or a male that practices witchcraft, the male witches hated being referred to as something so feminine as a witch so they came up with the name Warlock and have been referring to themselves as such. Some Warlocks take high offense to being called a Witch." Medea informed him in a scholarly manner.

Lucian shrugged, "I don't mind being called a Witch"

Medea had a large grin as she heard that, as she obviously knew the reason for it. She was sure it had something to do with her but didn't say anything about it.

"So what was it you wanted to tell me?" Lucian asked curiously.

"Oh right, this is merely of a suggestion but as you didn't know you were a Witch before I thought it would be much better to inform you of this now, You should start a Coven"

Lucian perked up as he heard and now really looked confused, "A coven?" He asked with a weird look.

Medea grinned and nodded, "A Coven" She repeated, "A group of magical beings, mostly witches, that gather and form a group perform rituals, make potions, or cast spells"

"I know what a coven was, mother, I'm just confused as to why you would want me to make one?" Lucian asks.

Medea began rubbing her chin as she muttered, "How do I explain this in a way that you would understand… Ah! Think of a coven as a music band" She said, almost sounding proud of the analogy she thought of.

"A band?" Lucian asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Yes, think of a coven as a band. Think of the members of Coven as members of a band and think of the music they are able to create as the magic you perform. On your own you might sound exceptional and be a popular singer or guitar player which would translate to you being a powerful witch in your own right.

However, add that guitarist to a band with other music artists just as skilled as he is and the music turns into a new symphony, into something more powerful" She explained thoroughly.

"It's why witches form covens in a first place, they share notes with one another, help each other grow stronger through support. Some witches might not even need a coven but there are those that might not even be nearly as powerful if it weren't for the coven they belong to" Medea explained. "So it's not that you need to make one, but it wouldn't hurt to make one if you were up to it"

Lucian was looking down with a hand over his chin, "I see, I suppose that would make sense… A Coven huh… That doesn't sound like a bad idea"

Medea smiled slightly, then Lucian looked up to look at her and asked, "Did you ever belong to a coven?"

"Yes… I did. With my three aunts, who can be considered your great-aunts as well. Circe and Pasiphaë and Heliades" Medea stated.

Lucian stood up and put a hand over his head in astonishment.

"What? Is it that shocking?" Medea asked, taken aback by Lucian's reaction.

"PASIPHAË IS YOUR AUNT!? AS IN THE MOTHER OF THE MINOTAUR! I'M RELATED TO THE FUCKING MINOTAUR!?!"
