Phoenix Reborn In One Piece

Chapter 149: Chapter 149: Is the Legend of the Golden City, Shandora, Real?

New World, Dressrosa Kingdom.

After finishing a phone call, Doflamingo's expression visibly darkened. Although Bellamy hadn't officially joined his crew yet, he was still considered a trainee under his command.

And now, he had been killed for his bounty…

"Doffy, the Dream Exploration Team has been making waves lately. They recently released a map of the East Blue. According to our intel, Vice Admiral Garp holds them in high regard, and within the World Government, Saint Lindgas is their backer. If we move against them, the World Government will be a problem. Saint Lindgas won't just sit back and do nothing," Diamante, the user of the Flag-Flag Fruit, reported honestly.

"Fufufufu…"

"Bellamy's ship bore our emblem!" Doflamingo said in a low, chilling voice.

Doflamingo didn't care much about Bellamy being taken down, but the fact that his ship carried his symbol and they had openly disrespected him was what infuriated him. His pride was deeply wounded, and he needed to restore his lost dignity by making the Dream Exploration Team pay.

"Nee, Doffy, what do you want to do?" Trebol agreed with Doflamingo's stance.

As one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea and the current king of Dressrosa, being humiliated by a group of young upstarts was unacceptable.

"Fufufufu~~~"

"If I remember correctly, they're the ones who wiped out the pirates on Jaya, right?" Doflamingo said with a sly grin.

"Uh... yeah, that's right. So, what are you thinking, Doffy?" Diamante asked, confused.

"Hmph!" Doflamingo smirked, a cold glint in his eyes. "In that case, let's team up with those guys and make sure they pay for what they've done!"

As he spoke, a flash of killing intent crossed his eyes.

"Got it, Doffy!" Diamante and the others nodded, understanding Doflamingo's plan.

They knew Doflamingo was a man of means and determination. Once he set his mind on something, he'd stop at nothing to achieve it.

As one of the Warlords with the closest ties to the World Government, they were well aware of what had happened on Jaya.

Now that someone else had taken the profits from Jaya, they were sure the island's stakeholders would be eager to get revenge.

So, they immediately set out to contact these people.

Meanwhile, in Mock Town on Jaya.

Night had fallen, and the nine members of the Dream Exploration Team were sitting on a rug in the villa's living room, excitedly discussing the upcoming Knock Up Stream and the rumors about Skypiea.

Over the past few days on Jaya, they'd gathered all the information they could, including the centuries-old legend.

Nami frowned slightly, as if trying to recall something. "The City of Gold, Shandora... I feel like I've heard of it before..."

Nojiko rolled her eyes. "No way, Nami. We never heard anything like that back in East Blue. If there was such a legend, I'd know about it..."

The others looked at Nami curiously, while Ryuen casually sipped his beer.

Suddenly, Nami turned to Ryuen, her eyes shining with excitement. "I remember now! Ryuen, you once said you'd take me to a place with tons of gold. Were you talking about this legend?"

In an instant, everyone's eyes turned to Ryuen.

Ryuen coughed awkwardly. "Ahem... well, you caught me. Yeah, that's the legend I was talking about."

"Wait, what?!" Daisy exclaimed, looking at Ryuen with wide eyes. "How did you know about this? Did the legend of Jaya's City of Gold spread all the way to East Blue?"

Everyone was curious about how Ryuen had known about the legend back in East Blue.

"Well, you see, I liked reading books as a kid. Ever heard of the story of 'Montblanc Noland the Liar'? It's mentioned in there," Ryuen said, scratching his head sheepishly.

The others nodded in understanding, but Nami's expression darkened, as if she were holding back anger.

"So, you're saying you didn't even know if the legend was true or not back then?" Nami said slowly, her voice cold.

"That jerk! When he said he'd take me to find gold worth more than 3 billion berries, I was thrilled for a whole year!"

But now it turns out he got the idea from some comic book story.

This is so unreliable!

"No way!" Ryuen shot back. "I don't know how to explain it, but the legend of the Golden City of Shandora is real. You'll see when we get to Skypiea!"

"Why would we know just by going to Skypiea? What does the legend of Jaya have to do with Skypiea?" Nojiko asked, giving Ryuen a suspicious look.

"I can't explain it right now, but you'll understand once we reach Skypiea tomorrow. Anyway, I'm tired. I'm going to bed." Ryuen yawned dramatically and tried to make a quick escape to his room.

But Nami reached out and grabbed his pants.

"Nami, don't get so worked up. I promise it's true," Ryuen said, looking innocent.

"How can I not be worked up? You told me you'd take me to find gold worth more than 3 billion berries, and I was excited for a whole year!" Nami snapped.

"Hey, I know, I know. Don't be mad, Nami. You'll understand once we get to Skypiea," Ryuen said, scratching his head and grinning.

"Hmph!" Nami snorted and turned away.

"Come on, everyone, don't be so serious. It's just a legend. We'll find out if it's true or not when we get to Skypiea tomorrow," Ryuen said, trying to smooth things over.

"Fine. I hope you're right," Nami said coldly.

"Alright, everyone, let's get some sleep. We've got a long day ahead tomorrow," Ryuen said cheerfully.

After a busy day, everyone was indeed tired. They said goodnight and headed to their rooms, leaving Nami alone in the main hall.

Nami glanced at Ryuen's room and thought to herself, "That jerk... if we don't find any gold when we get to Skypiea, he's going to regret it."

But then she remembered that Ryuen had never actually lied to her before.

The thought that the legend of the Golden City of Shandora might be real made her eyes sparkle like berries.

Humming a tune, Nami happily headed back to her room.
