Chapter 7: Chapter 7: A Night at the Hostess of Fertility
Eleven days had passed since the Silverback attack, and Orario had settled back into its usual rhythm. The chaos of that night had faded into memory, though the impact of it lingered in the minds of those who had witnessed it.
For Zephyr Kane, the days since had been spent exploring the city, learning its streets, and avoiding the Dungeon. He had only ventured into its depths once during that time, more focused on understanding the layout of Orario so he wouldn't find himself lost again.
The city was vast, its winding streets and hidden alleys a maze that even seasoned adventurers struggled to navigate. But Zephyr was determined to master it.

Zephyr's POV
The sun had set, and the streets of Orario were bathed in the warm glow of lanterns and torches. The air was filled with the sounds of laughter, chatter, and the occasional clinking of glasses from nearby taverns. I walked through the bustling streets, my hands tucked into the pockets of my coat, taking in the sights and sounds of the city at night.
The Hostess of Fertility, a popular tavern and restaurant, had been recommended to me by a few locals, and I decided to check it out. After all, I needed a break from my exploration, and a good meal sounded like the perfect way to unwind.
As I approached the tavern, the warm light spilling from its windows and the inviting aroma of food drew me in. The sign above the door swung gently in the evening breeze, and I could hear the lively chatter of patrons inside.
Pushing the door open, I stepped into the cozy interior. The Hostess of Fertility was bustling with activity, adventurers and locals alike filling the tables and bar. The atmosphere was lively but welcoming.
I found an empty seat at the bar and settled in, glancing around the room. The staff moved with practiced efficiency, serving food and drinks with smiles on their faces. A light grey-haired waitress with a cheerful demeanor approached me, her eyes lighting up as she took in my appearance.
"Welcome to the Hostess of Fertility!" she said brightly. "I'm Syr. What can I get for you tonight?"
I returned her smile. "Just looking for a good meal and something to drink. What do you recommend?"
Syr tilted her head, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "Hmm, well, our specialty is roasted lamb with herb butter. It's a favorite among our regulars. And for drinks, we have a great selection of ales and wines. Or, if you're feeling adventurous, I can recommend something a little stronger."
"The lamb sounds perfect," I said. "And I'll take your recommendation for the drink."
Syr grinned. "Coming right up!"
As she hurried off to place my order, I leaned back in my seat, taking in the atmosphere of the tavern. The Hostess of Fertility had a warm, welcoming vibe, and it was easy to see why it was so popular. The patrons seemed to be a mix of adventurers and locals, all enjoying themselves and sharing stories of their day.
A few minutes later, Syr returned with a plate of roasted lamb and a glass of dark, amber-colored liquid. "Here you go! The lamb, as promised, and a glass of our finest spiced mead. I think you'll like it."
I thanked her and took a bite of the lamb. It was tender and flavorful, the herb butter adding a rich, savory note. The mead was equally impressive, its sweetness balanced by a hint of spice. "This is amazing," I said, genuinely impressed.
Syr beamed. "I'm glad you like it! So, what brings you to Orario? You don't look like a local."
I shrugged. "Just passing through. I've been exploring the city for the past few days. It's… quite a place."
Syr leaned on the bar, her interest clearly piqued. "Exploring, huh? You must be an adventurer, then. Or are you just a traveler?"
"A bit of both, I suppose," I said, not wanting to reveal too much. "I've been to the Dungeon once, but I'm more interested in learning about the city for now."
Syr's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Well, if you're looking for a guide, I'd be happy to show you around sometime. Orario has a lot of hidden gems."
Before I could respond, another waitress approached, her green hair with white frilled headband. She had an air of quiet confidence about her, and her sharp eyes immediately caught my attention.
"Syr, stop bothering the customers," she said, though her tone was more amused than scolding.
Syr pouted playfully. "I'm not bothering him, Ryuu! I'm just being friendly."
Ryuu raised an eyebrow, then turned to me. "I apologize if she's being too forward. Syr has a habit of… overenthusiasm."
I chuckled. "No need to apologize. She's been great company."
Ryuu nodded, her expression softening slightly. "Well, if you need anything, don't hesitate to ask."
As Ryuu walked away, Syr leaned in closer, lowering her voice. "Don't mind her. Ryuu's a bit reserved, but she's really sweet once you get to know her."
I smiled. "She seems nice."
Syr grinned. "So, what's your name? I don't think I caught it earlier."
"Zephyr," I said. "Zephyr Kane."
"Zephyr," Syr repeated, as if testing the name on her tongue. "That's a nice name. It suits you."
Before I could respond, a small voice piped up from behind me. "Wow, you're really handsome!"
I turned to see a young girl with short, dark hair and bright eyes. She was carrying a tray of empty glasses, her cheeks flushed as she realized she had spoken out loud.
Syr laughed. "Anya, don't be rude!"
Anya's face turned even redder. "I-I'm sorry! I didn't mean to—"
I held up a hand, smiling to put her at ease. "It's alright. No harm done."
Anya ducked her head, mumbling an apology before scurrying off to the kitchen. Syr shook her head, still laughing. "Sorry about that. Anya's a bit foolish so her unthoughtful actions tend to stand out, but she's a sweetheart."
"She seems like it," I said, amused.
As the evening wore on, I found myself enjoying the lively atmosphere of the Hostess of Fertility. Syr and the other staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was some of the best I'd had since arriving in Orario.
I struck up a few conversations with the other patrons, learning more about the city and its people. It was a refreshing change of pace from my usual solitary explorations.
Eventually, the crowd began to thin as the night grew later. I finished my meal and stood, stretching slightly. Syr approached, her smile as bright as ever.
"Heading out already?" she asked.
I nodded. "It's getting late, and I have plans for tomorrow. But I'll definitely be back. This place is great."
Syr's eyes lit up. "I'm glad to hear it! You're always welcome here, Zephyr."
I thanked her and left the tavern, the cool night air a welcome contrast to the warmth inside. As I walked back to my inn, my thoughts turned to the Dungeon.
I hadn't been back since the Silverback incident, and I was eager to test my skills again. But before that, there was something I needed to do.
---
Back at the inn, in my room, I sat on the edge of the bed and pulled up my status screen. It had been a while since I last checked it, and I was curious to see how much I had grown. The glowing text appeared before me, and I scanned the numbers.
[Name: Zephyr Kane]
[Race: Celestial Human]
[Level: 14>17]
[Class: Unassigned]
[HP: 1390 | MP: 1390]
[Constitution: 72]
[Stat Points Available: 9]
I had gained a few stats and levels from the silverback, but what caught my attention was the 'Abilities' section. Among the list of skills and powers, one stood out: [Minor Space Manipulation].
I had completely forgotten about it in the chaos of the past few days. The ability description says it allows me to manipulate space on a small scale—creating pockets of compressed space, bending distances, or even teleporting short distances. It was a powerful tool, but I hadn't had the chance to practice it yet.
I leaned back, a smile tugging at my lips. Tomorrow, when I ventured into the Dungeon, I would put it to the test. The thought filled me with anticipation. The Dungeon was a place of endless challenges, and with my new ability, I was ready to face whatever it threw at me.
The next day~~
The next day, I woke up to the faint glow of dawn seeping through the thin curtains of my inn room. The air was cool, and the city outside was just beginning to stir.
Today was the day I'd return to the Dungeon, and I couldn't help but feel a surge of anticipation. It had been too long since I tested myself against its depths, and with my new ability, I was eager to see how far I could push my limits.
I rolled out of bed and began my morning routine, strapping on my robes and checking my sword. It hadn't dulled as yet so buying one hadn't been my priority as yet.
I double-checked my pouch of supplies-potions, although I have [minor regeneration] passive due to my race, I still bought bandages and a few rations-before slinging it over my shoulder. Satisfied that I was prepared, I left the inn and stepped into the crisp morning air.
As I approached the entrance, I spotted a familiar figure near the gate: Bell Cranel. Bell, with his bright red eyes and white hair, was animatedly talking to a shortstack with a large sack on her back.
I kept my gaze forward, my expression neutral as I walked past them. Bell seemed to notice me and opened his mouth as if to say something, but I didn't give him the chance. My pace was brisk, my focus unwavering.
I had goals, and I needed them fulfilled.
