Chapter 19: Chapter 18: The Perfect Bagon
After dealing with the Beedrill swarm, Ryuu continued following the Gold Destiny marker, making his way toward Wandering Falls.
He had a strong feeling about this—Bagon was up ahead.
It reminded him of Meteor Falls from the games, the place where Bagon was known to appear.
And just like in the game, this Mystic Zone had a waterfall, and his system's golden path led straight toward it.
That's where his prize awaited.
...
With Venusaur protecting him and Froakie by his side, the journey through the dense forest was relatively uneventful.
Instead of rushing, Ryuu took this as a chance to train Froakie.
If he wanted to raise an Elite-level team, it wasn't just about feeding them power-ups—they needed real combat experience.
After countless battles, Froakie finally reached Level 20.
He could feel it—Froakie was on the verge of evolving.
If he could just push a little further, his starter would soon break into the Elite class.
This was all thanks to the Essence of Water he obtained earlier.
Without it, reaching this level so quickly would have been nearly impossible.
Still—if he could find a Mystic Water, it would speed things up even more.
...
By noon, the sun was scorching, even with the thick forest canopy offering some shade.
Sweat dripped down Ryuu's forehead as he wiped his face with his sleeve.
"Man, being a trainer is tough work."
This was probably why so many rookie trainers either became Breeders or researchers instead.
Not everyone had the patience—or endurance—to fight through harsh environments every day.
The thick jungle air was humid, and the buzz of insects filled the silence.
Ryuu took out a mosquito repellent spray from his bag and quickly applied it.
Even Pokémon trainers weren't immune to real-world problems like bug bites.
Meanwhile, Froakie lay exhausted on his shoulder, arms crossed, looking completely done with today's journey.
Ryuu laughed. "Getting tired already?"
Froakie just croaked and turned his head away.
After all, he had been battling all morning—he deserved a break.
Ryuu thought about resting for a bit, but then—
Rushing water.
His ears perked up.
The sound of a waterfall echoed in the distance.
His tiredness disappeared instantly.
He was close.
Pushing through the last of the dense jungle, Ryuu finally arrived at Wandering Falls.
The waterfall wasn't particularly massive—about ten meters high—but it was still majestic as it cascaded into a deep pool below.
However, what caught his attention wasn't the waterfall itself.
It was the small, blue Pokémon standing at the top.
A Bagon.
Ryuu's eyes lit up.
"There you are."
The small Dragon-type Pokémon stood proudly at the edge of the cliff, gazing at the sky.
Its eyes burned with determination as it focused on the vast open sky above.
Then—
It jumped.
Bagon leaped off the cliff, flailing its tiny arms and legs, trying to fly.
But of course, gravity didn't care about its dreams.
It plummeted straight down—
CRASH.
Its rock-hard skull slammed into the ground, leaving a deep imprint in the dirt.
Ryuu winced.
"Damn… that looked painful."
Yet, Bagon didn't seem to care.
It shook its head, stood up, and looked even more determined.
It wanted to fly.
Ryuu stepped forward.
"Bagon."
The little Dragon-type turned toward him, blinking in curiosity.
It had probably never seen a human before.
It stared at him—not with fear, but with mild confusion.
Ryuu smirked.
"Do you want to fly?"
Bagon's eyes widened.
It took a cautious step forward, tilting its head.
Ryuu continued, his voice calm.
"If you come with me, I can make you stronger."
"You'll eat well, train harder, and one day—you'll be soaring in the sky."
To emphasize his point, he reached into his bag and pulled out a shimmering Energy Cube.
He placed it in front of Bagon.
At first, the little Dragon-type looked unimpressed.
It turned away, snorting.
"Hah! I don't need a human to feed me!"
Or at least, that's what it wanted to say.
Because the moment it caught a whiff of the Energy Cube's rich aroma—
It froze.
Its tiny nostrils flared.
Then, in a blink, it whipped back around, staring at the cube with intense hunger.
Drool dripped from its mouth.
The delicious scent was unlike anything it had ever smelled before.
Even though it had always eaten fresh berries and fruits, it had never tasted something this good.
Its tiny body trembled in excitement.
Ryuu chuckled.
"You want it?"
He took a step back—placing another cube in his palm.
Bagon didn't hesitate.
It rushed forward, gobbling the Energy Cube in an instant.
Then, it stared at Ryuu expectantly.
Another one.
Ryuu smirked.
"Join me, and you'll get these every day."
Bagon hesitated for only a second.
Then—
It nodded.
Not just for the food—but because it wanted to fly.
It wanted to be stronger.
It wanted to reach the sky.
Ryuu took out a Poké Ball and held it out.
Bagon tapped it with its head.
A red light enveloped it.
The Poké Ball shook once.
Twice.
Then—
Ding!
Capture successful.
Ryuu's eyes burned with excitement as he activated his system.
[Bagon (Dragon)]
Gender: Female
Level: 20 (Common)
Ability: Rock Head
Nature: Adamant (+Attack, -Special Attack)
Moves: Ember, Dragon Breath, Dragon Pulse, Fire Fang
Potential: Champion Level
"Holy—"
This was perfect.
A Champion-tier Bagon with Rock Head and an Adamant nature.
Not only that, but it already knew Dragon Pulse at Level 20.
This wasn't just a strong Bagon—this was a future powerhouse.
Ryuu clenched the Poké Ball in his fist.
"With this… I can definitely reach the top."
He took a deep breath and smirked.
"Alright—time to train."
