Pokemon: My Fate System Is Too Overpowered!!

Chapter 26: Chapter 25: Mall Duel, Prize Eevee

Ryuu and Shindou Aio walked side by side through the bustling streets, chatting and laughing.

After purchasing the Pokémon eggs, Ryuu had sent them home first.

Aron had Elite potential, and there was no way he was risking losing it.

With that taken care of, he decided to spend the rest of the day with Aio, strolling through the city.

Training Pokémon was important, but overworking them was pointless.

Too much stress and excessive training could do more harm than good.

Besides, opportunities were just as valuable as training.

If he could steal a powerful Pokémon, snatch away a high-tier destiny, or even acquire a secret treasure, it would be far more beneficial than grinding battles.

Unfortunately, most of what he encountered along the way was low-tier garbage.

White-tier. Green-tier.

Occasionally, he spotted some Blue-tier fates, but Purple and above?

Nowhere to be found.

With no better options, Ryuu casually marked a few Blue-tier Pokémon for potential resale.

At Gym-level potential, they weren't anything special, but they could still be profitable.

His family's gym had plenty of apprentices, and selling these Pokémon to them would be an easy source of income.

---

"Ryuu, there are a lot of people over there. Should we check it out?"

Aio's gaze had been drawn to a crowd gathering in front of a shopping mall.

The entire street was packed with people, forming a long line that stretched across the entrance.

"Let's go."

Ryuu didn't hesitate.

With so many people in one place, there was a good chance of finding something valuable.

Upon entering the mall, he quickly figured out what was going on.

A major corporation was hosting a trainer competition, open only to rookies.

The grand prize?

A rare Pokémon egg.

Of course, these corporations weren't running the event out of kindness.

The entry fees alone would recover a huge portion of the prize's value.

But more importantly, this was a recruitment strategy.

By holding rookie tournaments, they could scout talented trainers who had potential but no powerful connections.

For example, Ryuu's own family gym recruited talented apprentices in a similar way.

If a talented trainer joined, they would receive resources and financial backing in exchange for loyalty.

Trainers from weaker financial backgrounds were often forced to join large factions just to survive.

---

"Ryuu, it's a tournament! Should we enter?"

Aio's eyes sparkled with excitement.

Winning or losing didn't really matter—it was the experience that counted.

But if she could win a Pokémon egg, that would be even better.

"Let's do it," Ryuu nodded. "If I win, I'll give you the egg as a present."

His eyes locked onto the grand prize, displayed in a glass case inside the mall.

Out of the three eggs, two were completely worthless.

Low base stats. Weak potential. Not even worth considering.

But the one in the center?

[Name: Eevee]

[Potential: Gym level]

A Gym-level potential Eevee.

It wasn't anything amazing, but Eevee was versatile and cute.

Ryuu had no use for it, but Aio would love it.

It would make a perfect gift.

---

"Ryuu, are you serious? You've only had your Pokémon for a few days, and you think you're going to win?"

A mocking voice interrupted.

Ryuu sighed.

That voice.

So familiar.

It was him again.

He turned, already knowing who it was.

Sure enough, there stood Shun, smirking like he had just delivered the ultimate insult.

This guy was absolutely relentless.

No matter where Ryuu went, Shun would magically appear, running his mouth.

It was almost impressive.

Ryuu had already stolen three Red-tier fates from him.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if he took another one today?

Without sparing Shun a second glance, Ryuu walked away.

"Let's go sign up."

Aio followed him immediately, as if Shun didn't even exist.

Shun: "..."

They ignored him.

Completely.

His smirk twitched, his jaw clenched.

No matter.

He would enter the tournament too.

This was his chance to crush Ryuu.

Even though his Torchic was weak, he had poured resources into it.

Surely, Ryuu's Froakie couldn't compare.

Of course, he had no idea that Ryuu's Froakie had already evolved.

---

After registering, Ryuu sat in the waiting area.

They still needed more contestants before the brackets could be finalized.

There was some time to kill.

Seeing an opportunity, Ryuu bought two ice creams—one for himself and one for Aio.

She accepted it happily, savoring the cold treat.

The way she licked it—small, delicate motions—made her look even cuter than usual.

It was hard not to stare.

She had always been cute, even as a kid.

But now?

She was growing into a real beauty.

And it was happening fast.

Lost in thought, Ryuu didn't even realize he had been watching her the whole time.

Until she caught him staring.

Aio froze mid-bite, her face turning a deep shade of red.

Before the awkward silence could drag on any longer—

"Attention all contestants!"

A voice echoed through the mall speakers.

"The brackets have been finalized. Please check your assigned matchups and proceed to your designated battle zones."

Aio exhaled in relief.

She had been saved from the embarrassment.

"Good luck, Aio," Ryuu grinned. "I believe in you."

She nodded quickly, still flustered.

The two made their way to the large digital screen displaying the tournament brackets.

Ryuu scanned the list.

He was placed in Group One.

Aio was in Group Four.

And Shun?

Same group as Aio.

Aio would have to battle him at some point.

Ryuu smirked.

"Well, this just got interesting."
