Pokemon: My Fate System Is Too Overpowered!!

Chapter 8: Chapter 7: The Eye of Data—Froakie’s First Battle

"By the way, system, do I get a newbie gift pack or what?"

As Ryuu made his way to the battle arena, a thought suddenly struck him.

Every other reincarnated protagonist he'd read about always got a starter bonus from their system.

So why hadn't his system given him anything yet?

Even something small—like Psychic abilities or Aura powers—would be great.

If the system was feeling especially generous, a Champion-level power boost would be even better.

[Congratulations, host. You have unlocked the Newbie Gift Pack and obtained: The Eye of Data.]

Eye of Data: Grants the ability to see the complete stats of any Pokémon.

---

Ryuu: "…"

If he hadn't asked, the system probably would've just kept that reward to itself.

And seriously—this was it?

Just a scanning ability?

No power-up? No legendary-level cheat skill?

Sure, the Eye of Data was useful.

It would help him analyze Pokémon potential, ensuring he never picked a low-tier one.

But still… he felt robbed.

If the system wasn't going to hand out any extra rewards, then he'd just have to make the most of it.

He glanced down at Froakie, still resting in his arms.

Immediately, a data panel appeared before him.

---

[Pokémon: Froakie (Water-type)]

Gender: Male

Level: 8 (Novice)

Ability: Protean (Changes type to match the move used)

Nature: Modest (+Special Attack, -Attack)

Moves: Bubble, Pound, Quick Attack

Potential: Elite-level

---

Ryuu's lips curled into a smirk.

As expected, an absolute beast.

Froakie's Protean ability alone made it incredibly versatile, allowing it to shift its typing mid-battle.

And with its Modest nature, it would excel in Special Attacks—exactly what a Greninja needed.

Ryuu nodded in satisfaction.

But then, a wicked idea crossed his mind.

He wondered just how bad Watanabe Shun's Torchic was.

---

[Pokémon: Torchic (Fire-type)]

Gender: Male

Level: 4 (Novice)

Ability: Blaze (Boosts Fire-type moves when HP is low)

Nature: Calm (+Special Attack, -Speed)

Moves: Ember

Potential: Common-level

---

Ryuu almost burst out laughing on the spot.

This was garbage.

His original fate had been to pick this Torchic?

A Common-level Torchic, with awful stats and a horrible nature?

Its Special Attack was boosted, but its Speed was lowered—the worst possible stat drop for a future Blaziken, which relied heavily on speed.

And it only had one move?

Tragic.

If Shun actually poured resources into training this Torchic, he would rank near the bottom in the upcoming Trainer Exams.

Thank you, system.

Ryuu had never been more grateful for his cheat ability.

---

Aoi, who had been walking beside him, noticed his silent laughter.

"Ryuu, what's so funny?"

Ryuu snapped out of it.

"Oh, nothing," he said casually. "I was just thinking about how easily I'm going to win this battle. Might even celebrate later."

Aoi rolled her eyes, but she couldn't hide the small smile on her lips.

Ryuu glanced at her Charmander as well.

Sure enough, it was the Quasi-Elite potential Charmander he had seen in her fate thread.

A strong nature, solid moveset—definitely one of the best in their class.

She was set for a bright future.

Meanwhile, just ahead—

Shun, who had overheard Ryuu's casual flexing, nearly stumbled in frustration.

Ryuu wasn't even worried about the fight.

He was already thinking about celebrating?!

Before the battle had even started?!

Shun's face twitched in anger.

"Ryuu! Don't get cocky! I'll crush you!"

Ryuu turned to him, looking completely unfazed.

"Sure, sure," he said, grinning. "Let's get this over with."

---

Saffron Academy Battle Arena

The arena was a dedicated training ground for Pokémon duels.

As Ryuu and Shun arrived, students started gathering, eager to watch the first real battle of their grade.

Since high school students didn't receive Pokémon until their final year, actual battles were rare before the Trainer Exams.

For the younger students, this was their first time seeing real Pokémon battles.

Their eyes were filled with envy.

They still had over a year to wait before they could get their own Pokémon.

---

Shun stepped onto the battlefield, gripping his Poké Ball tightly.

"Ryuu! My Torchic will never lose!"

Torchic jumped onto the field, its tiny body radiating determination.

It let out an eager cry, ready to fight.

Ryuu just sighed.

"Froakie, your turn."

Froakie hopped forward, landing effortlessly on the battlefield.

Its stance was confident, its eyes calm and focused.

It wasn't worried at all.

Torchic pointed at Froakie, chirping aggressively.

It was clearly talking trash.

But since nobody spoke Torchic, no one had any idea what it was saying.

Ryuu snickered.

"Shun, your Torchic really takes after you," he said.

Shun grinned proudly.

"That's right! It's just like—"

Then he froze.

Something clicked in his head.

"Wait. What do you mean by that?!"

The entire crowd burst into laughter.

Shun's face turned red with embarrassment.

Realizing he had walked into an insult, he quickly changed the subject.

"Forget that! Let's battle!"

---

The referee, a senior student, raised his hand.

"This is an official Pokémon battle between Ryuu Fujiwara and Watanabe Shun!"

"Each Trainer will use one Pokémon! The battle will continue until one Pokémon can no longer fight!"

"Let the battle… begin!"

Shun thrust his hand forward.

"Torchic, use Ember!"

Torchic opened its beak, launching a small burst of flames toward Froakie.

Outside the arena, a teacher—a Blaziken expert—narrowed his eyes.

His brows furrowed in disappointment.

That Ember attack was weak.

Much weaker than it should have been.

Even among starter Pokémon, this Torchic was clearly subpar.

He could only hope that Shun's Torchic was just a late bloomer.

Because otherwise…

This battle would be over in seconds.
