Chapter 6: 6. [Gift of Beginnings]
Kanto Region - Pallet town » Route 1
As Velkris received his Pokémon from Professor Light, he expressed his gratitude before heading toward Professor Oak and the other three trainers to receive his Pokédex and essential items. However, as he walked, he gradually slowed his pace, feeling the familiar presence of the system in his mind. With a single thought, he focused on it, and instantly, the system screen materialized before him.
A notification flashed across the translucent white and gold interface:
————————————————–—––—
[Mission Completed]
Would you like to claim your rewards?
————————————————–—––—
Velkris exhaled slowly, anticipation creeping into his thoughts. He mentally selected "Accept," and within moments, a detailed reward screen appeared before him.

[Description : A ticket that allows the holder to encounter a First stage RANDOM Anomaly Pokémon. Tear it apart to activate the encounter.]
---------------------------------------------------------
————————————————–———
Velkris held the ticket and analyzed it, It was a pristine, golden ticket, bordered with elegant patterns, and at its center was a shadowed silhouette of a Pokémon, resembling the classic "Who's That Pokémon?" challenges from the show.
Velkris furrowed his brows, curiosity surfacing as he read the details again. Anomaly Pokémon? He had never heard of such a classification before.
Sensing his confusion, the system responded with an explanation:
———————————————————
[Anomaly Pokémon: Pokémon that defy conventional limits of strength, power, or abilities in one or multiple areas. They are often unique cases within their species, exhibiting traits that are considered beyond normal.]
———————————————————
Velkris' mind raced with possibilities. Anomaly Pokémon… Ridiculously strong individuals that surpassed even their species' natural potential. He immediately recalled the various Pokémon from the show that seemed to fit this description.
He immediately thought of Team Rocket's Wobbuffet. It was supposed to be a joke, just a Pokémon that could only counter attacks… but that thing had tanked Giratina's Shadow Force and Dialga's Roar of Time like it was nothing. No strategy, no dodging—just standing there, eating hits from literal gods and sending them back with double the force.
Then there was Tobias' Darkrai. That thing was a nightmare, one-shotting entire teams without breaking a sweat. Dark Void made it untouchable—before a battle even started, you had already lost. Even when it finally went down, its job was already done; it had taken out five Pokémon by itself. Could something like that really be considered just a "normal" Pokémon?
Then his mind went to Alain's Mega Charizard X. That Pokémon had fought Mega Rayquaza to a standstill. It wasn't just strong—it was unstoppable. It walked through Ash-Greninja's Water Shurikens like they were raindrops, overpowered Pikachu's Thunderbolt with its bare hands, and even beat an Elite Four's ace Pokémon like it was nothing.
And if Charizard was insane, Cynthia's Garchomp was even worse. That thing demolished Paul's entire team in seconds. It dodged attacks effortlessly, shrugged off super-effective Ice-type moves, and had an aura about it that just screamed "you can't win." If Pokémon in reality had level's and could level up, then Garchomp wasn't just high-level—it was maxed out.
Then there was Leon's Charizard. It was so dominant that it made Champions look weak. It beat Diantha's Mega Gardevoir like it was nothing, and overpowered everything it fought. Even Ash-Greninja, which could go toe-to-toe with Alain's Charizard, wouldn't stand a chance against Leon's.
And Ash's Lucario… it didn't just take hits—it absorbed them and sent them back stronger. A full-power Giga Impact should have ended the fight—instead, Lucario took it, powered up, and blasted back with an Aura Sphere stronger than anything Ash had ever used before.
Velkris exhaled. If these were the kinds of Pokémon that could be classified as anomalies, then he had no doubt—he wasn't ready yet. Not until he trained Ralts. Not until he understood what made Pokémon like these so different.
For now, he would wait. The ticket would stay with him. When the time came—and he would make sure it came soon—he would be ready.
With a deep breath, Velkris closed the system screen and picked up his pace. There was still much to do, and he wasn't about to waste the opportunities laid before him.
"Upon reaching the location, he saw Ash Ketchum with Pikachu by his side, arguing with Gary.
Gary was teasing Ash, saying he wouldn't have even known Pikachu's typing if he hadn't been shocked by it first. Ash immediately shot back, challenging Gary to a Pokémon battle. Meanwhile, the third trainer was struggling with his Charmander, which kept turning its head away and ignoring him after he unknowingly named it Larry—without realizing it was female. Though, to be fair, even if it were male, naming a Charmander Larry was practically a war crime in itself.
Velkris approached Ash and asked why he had received a Pikachu when there was still a Bulbasaur left. Ash repeated what Professor Oak had told him: the Bulbasaur had contracted a disease just a week before the big day, and while Oak initially thought it would recover in time, it hadn't. That's why it had been resting, even when introduced to the trainers.
While Ash wholeheartedly believed Oak's explanation, Velkris had his doubts.
A Pokémon that had been carefully groomed and taken care of specifically to be given out as a starter… suddenly falling ill right before the big day? Yeah, he'd sooner believe that Shuckle was the true Pokémon god than buy that lie.
Still, he understood why Professor Oak said it. Telling such an amateur excuse was pointless to someone like him, but to a naïve trainer like Ash? He'd believe it without a second thought.
As Ash finished his explanation, Professor Oak clapped his hands together, drawing everyone's attention.
"Well then," Oak began, "since you're all eager to test your skills, how about we have an official battle? I'll be the referee."
Ash's eyes lit up. "Really? Awesome!"
Gary smirked, crossing his arms. "Heh, about time. I was getting bored just standing around."
Oak chuckled. "We'll use one of the isolated battlefields in the research area. Follow me."
With that, he led the group—Ash, Gary, Velkris, and the other trainer—toward a spacious clearing behind the lab, surrounded by trees and marked with faint white lines on the ground. As they arrived, Oak turned to face them.
"I'll keep things simple," he said. "Ash will battle Velkris, and Gary will battle…" He paused, glancing at the last trainer.
"Oh, uh, I'm Kenji," the trainer introduced himself quickly.
"Right. Ash vs. Velkris, and Gary vs. Kenji. The winners will face each other in the final match."
Gary scoffed. "Tch, guess I'll be seeing you in the finals, Velkris."
Velkris simply gave a slight nod, his expression unreadable.
Oak raised a hand. "Now, step onto the battlefield."
Ash grinned and turned to Pikachu, crouching slightly to be at eye level. "Alright, buddy! Let's do this!"
Pikachu, however, shook its head and crossed its tiny arms.
Ash blinked. "Huh? You don't wanna battle?"
Pikachu huffed and turned its head away.
Oak rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "It seems Pikachu isn't interested."
Before Ash could ask why, Pikachu's gaze locked onto Velkris and his Poké Ball. A small spark crackled from its cheeks as it took a step forward, eyes filled with determination.
Velkris raised an eyebrow. "So that's how it is."
Ash tilted his head. "Wait… Pikachu, you wanna battle, but only because you want to win against Velkris?"
Pikachu nodded firmly.
Gary chuckled. "Wow, even your own Pokémon's picking favorites, Ash."
Ash pouted. "Oh, come on! Pikachu, I'm your trainer! You should be doing this for me!"
Pikachu didn't respond. Instead, it simply walked onto the battlefield, taking its position opposite Velkris.
Ash sighed, rubbing the back of his head. "Alright, fine. If that's how it is, then let's win together!"
Velkris smirked slightly, stepping onto his side of the battlefield. "Let's see what you've got, then."
As both trainers got into position, Ash quickly pulled out his Pokédex, pointing it at Pikachu. The device beeped to life, displaying data on his partner Pokémon.
As Ash took out his Pokédex and scanned Pikachu, it beeped before displaying its information.

Velkris observed the list carefully, his thoughts analyzing each move. A strong foundation… No flashy techniques yet, but a solid mix of offensive and strategic options.
Ralts tilted her head, sensing his emotions. Velkris smiled slightly. "Looks like we have a lot to work on."
Velkris, meanwhile, had already analyzed Pikachu's abilities. Its moves are simple, and without access to strong Electric attacks yet, its biggest threat is speed. But Ralts has counters. He took a deep breath. "Let's begin."
Professor Oak raised his hand. "Alright! The battle between Ash and Velkris will now begin! Trainers, send out your Pokémon!"
Ash pointed forward. "Pikachu, I choose you!"
Velkris simply nodded at Ralts, who gracefully stepped forward, her red eyes locking onto Pikachu.
Oak dropped his hand. "Begin!"
Ash wasted no time. "Pikachu, Quick Attack!"
Pikachu dashed forward at blinding speed, a yellow blur across the field.
Velkris didn't panic. "Double Team."
Ralts flickered, and multiple illusions of her formed around the battlefield. Pikachu zipped right through one, only for it to vanish.
"Wha—?" Ash blinked.
Velkris capitalized immediately. "Confusion."
Ralts' eyes glowed blue, and a psychic wave struck Pikachu from behind, sending it tumbling across the dirt.
Ash gritted his teeth. "Pikachu, get up! Use Thunder Shock!"
Pikachu's cheeks sparked before it fired a strong jolt of electricity more than possible for it to be thundershock.
Velkris barely reacted. "Misty Terrain."
A shimmering pink mist spread across the battlefield. The Thunder Shock passed through it, but Ralts remained unaffected.
Ash's eyes widened. "Wait, what?!"
Velkris kept his calm. "Misty Terrain stops status conditions. That means no paralysis from your Static or Thunder Shock."
Ash clenched his fists. "Then we'll just hit harder! Pikachu, Quick Attack again!"
Pikachu dashed forward, but Velkris was already a step ahead.
"Shadow Sneak."
Before Pikachu could land a hit, Ralts' shadow stretched unnaturally fast and struck Pikachu's side, knocking it off course.
Ash gritted his teeth. "Pikachu, try one more Quick Attack—"
Velkris' voice cut through. "Disarming Voice."
A soft yet powerful Fairy-type cry echoed across the battlefield. The attack, unavoidable, struck Pikachu directly, sending it rolling back.
It struggled to stand. Ash looked worried. "Pikachu, can you keep going?"
Pikachu groaned but fell to its knees, eyes swirling.
Oak raised his hand. "Pikachu is unable to battle! Velkris and Ralts win!"
Velkris simply nodded as Ralts gracefully returned to his side. A clean victory.
Ash picked up Pikachu, a mix of frustration and determination on his face. "Man… You're really good, Velkris. I guess I still have a lot to learn."
Velkris crossed his arms. "You've got potential, but you rely too much on brute force. Work on your strategy."
Ash blinked before smiling. "Heh, guess I'll have to battle you again sometime."
Velkris smirked. "We'll see."
Gary's battle against Kenji had been over in minutes. His Squirtle barely broke a sweat, weaving around Kenji's Charmander with perfect agility before landing a decisive Water Gun that sent the Fire-type sprawling. Kenji had tried to recover, but with a final, well-timed Tackle, it was over. Gary stood victorious, arms crossed, his trademark smirk firmly in place.
Now, as he turned to face Velkris, that same confidence remained. "Guess it's just us now," he said, tossing Squirtle's Pokéball up and catching it effortlessly. "Let's see if you can put up more of a fight."
Velkris remained calm, but his mind was already racing. Squirtle is fast and well-trained. Water Gun, Tackle, and probably Withdraw for defense. But it doesn't matter—I've already seen how he fights. He tightened his grip on Ralts' Pokéball.
Professor Oak stepped forward, raising his hand. "The final match—Velkris versus Gary—begins now!"
Gary smirked, snapping his fingers. "Squirtle, let's show him how it's done."
The tiny Turtle Pokémon stepped forward, grinning confidently. Velkris exhaled slowly, then released his own Pokéball. "Let's end this quickly, Ralts."
As the Psychic-type emerged, her red eyes locking onto Squirtle's, the air between the two trainers grew tense. Both had seen each other battle, both had something to prove.
Gary's smirk widened. "Hope you're ready to lose."
Velkris met his gaze with an unwavering stare. "We'll see about that."
Professor Oak dropped his hand. "Begin!"
