Pokémon: Trainer Paul

Chapter 96: Chapter 96: Let Go, or Stay

"Poké Ball, go!"

At that moment, two Poké Balls flew from Paul's hand, landing on Gliscor and another Gligar to initiate the scan.

"Hmm? So weak?"

Paul frowned as he reviewed the data on his Pokédex. This Gliscor was nothing like what he had expected.

Its power and potential were lacking, and its ability was the rather mundane Hyper Cutter. There seemed to be no reason to invest in its training.

As for the Gligar, it was average in every way with the Sand Veil ability.

"Could this not be the Gliscor caught in the anime?" Paul wondered.

"With this level of potential, there's no point in training them."

Without hesitation, Paul released Gliscor and Gligar back into the wild and continued using the Poké Balls to capture, scan, and release other Gligar in the area.

When it came to Gligar, Paul preferred those with the Immunity ability, which would evolve into a Gliscor with Poison Heal. In the real world, this ability offered solid training potential.

Being able to use Toxic to poison itself and constantly regenerate health was a trait Paul found worthwhile.

However, after scanning the entire group of Gligar, Paul failed to find any with the desired potential or the Immunity ability.

Among them, there was a particularly goofy, timid, and quirky Gligar that caught his attention.

The more Paul looked at it, the more it reminded him of the one Ash had.

"It seems this group of Gligar might be the same one from my memory."

"But while this Gliscor is decent, it doesn't meet my standards."

"Was the one from the anime just less demanding, or are my standards simply too high?"

Paul glanced at the lone Gligar, munching away on a berry, oblivious to its surroundings, and concluded that his standards were likely too strict.

"Remove the Gravity field and let them go."

After finishing his thoughts, Paul shook his head and gave the order to Vulpix, while sensing an inexplicable gaze watching him from somewhere.

Vulpix obeyed, lifting the Gravity field. The other Pokémon who weren't malicious, stepped aside, giving the Gligar a path to escape.

"Gliscorrr~!"

Upon regaining its freedom, Gliscor gave a cry and decisively flew toward the sky.

"Gligarrr~!"

"…"

The other group of Gligar hurriedly followed their leader, flying off into the distance.

"Gligar?"

Only the berry-loving Gligar, engrossed in its meal, noticed too late that its group had left. Panicking, it clutched a berry and flew off, teary-eyed to catch up.

"That engrossed? Then don't leave!"

Watching the departing Gligar, Paul's eyes sharpened. He turned toward a nearby bush and pointed.

"Vulpix, Psychic!"

"Vuuul~!"

Vulpix's eyes glowed blue, and a wave of psychic energy enveloped the area Paul indicated, capturing a small figure that had been secretly observing from the shadows.

"Ralts!"

With a startled cry, a small Pokémon with a white body resembling baby clothes, a green bowl-shaped head, and a red horn-like appendages was brought out of hiding by Vulpix's Psychic.

"A Ralts?"

Paul immediately recognized the Pokémon, which would evolve into what fans often called the "Waifu Pokémon."

"Ralts! Ralts!"

The poor Ralts struggled against the Psychic hold, unable to teleport away or use its own psychic abilities, which were overpowered by Vulpix.

"Ralts…"

Its helplessness revealed its tearful adorable eyes, evoking pity from anyone who wasn't Paul.

For Paul's team, however, pity was meaningless. Pokémon like Electabuzz would likely tease Ralts by making it cry even more if it were present.

In contrast, Grotle, the kind-hearted and empathetic, couldn't stand to see others cry. After receiving Paul's permission, it stepped forward and used Energy Ball to put Ralts to sleep.

Paul gave a slight nod of approval, gently patting Grotle's head before capturing Ralts with a Poké Ball.

Just as he prepared to scan the new capture with his Pokédex, Paul's sharp hearing caught another sound. His lips curled into a faint smile.

"Another one's here."

"Gardevoir!"

Before Paul, a Gardevoir suddenly appeared, its elegant form exuding urgency. Its eyes locked onto the Poké Ball in Paul's hand, radiating both worry and anger.

"Gardevoir!"

The protective Gardevoir demanded its child's release.

Paul remained calm, taking out another Poké Ball.

"Will you enter on your own, or shall I send you in myself?"

"Vul~"

Perched on Grotle's back, Vulpix playfully taunted Gardevoir, its eyes gleaming mischievously.

"Ursa!"

Ursaring cracked its knuckles, clearly eager to join the fight.

Dewott silently observed, hands on its scalchops, ready to unleash Swords Dance.

Only Grotle smiled innocently, determined to keep the situation calm.

"Gardevoir!"

Enraged, Gardevoir unleashed a wave of psychic energy in the form of a beam aimed directly at Paul and his Pokémon.

"Psychic!"

"Slash!"

"Vuuul~!"

"Ursaa!"

Vulpix countered with Psychic, creating a barrier that blocked the beam. Ursaring stepped forward, claws glowing, and tore through the remaining energy.

"Cha!"

Dewott dashed forward, slashing at Gardevoir with precision, forcing it to teleport away.

High above, Gardevoir prepared Moonblast, but Dewott swiftly countered, slashing through the attack before retreating.

When Gardevoir tried another Psychic attack, Ursaring roared, breaking through it with Hammer Arm before delivering a devastating Body Slam, incapacitating Gardevoir.

Paul approached the unconscious Gardevoir and casually captured it.
