Chapter 110: Chapter 110 - Evaluating Sabrina

Chapter 110 - Evaluating Sabrina

"…"

Green listened to Asahi's conversation and immediately realized who he was talking to.

Professor Oak's grandson—Gary.

When Asahi hung up, she couldn't help but ask, "Aren't you afraid of getting in trouble with Professor Oak for tricking his grandson into joining Interpol?"

"Relax. Professor Oak isn't that strict." Asahi waved a hand dismissively. "And calling it 'tricking' is unfair. Gary agreed to it himself. Did I force him? Nope."

Dealing with Gary was easy.

Just mention Ash, and he'd rush over on his own.

"…"

Green wasn't entirely convinced.

"What about Sabrina?"

According to Lance, her official record was spotless. Did that mean…

She glanced at Asahi, seeking confirmation.

"I'll meet her tomorrow and see for myself," he said. "Her psychic abilities are tricky, so you should stay here."

After learning about Sabrina's background from Lance, Asahi had come up with a bold idea.

Why not try to turn her against Team Rocket?

Sabrina… you wouldn't want your family finding out about your secret, would you?

Green had no objections. She nodded.

Her Wartortle and Torchic were both showing signs of evolution, and with the manor's facilities, she planned to help them evolve within the next couple of days.

As they chatted, a sudden gust of wind howled outside.

Asahi turned his head and saw a Dragonite standing at the window, carrying a shoulder bag.

It knocked on the glass and peered inside.

After spotting Asahi, it pulled out a photo, checked the likeness, then took a small box from its bag and handed it over.

"Whooo~"

With a friendly farewell, Dragonite flapped its wings and vanished into the sky.

Opening the box, Asahi found his new credentials inside.

All of this had happened within ten minutes of ending the call with Lance.

"Man, that was fast… So why is Dragonite's Speed stat only 90 in the games?"

He shut the window, turned around, and saw Dragonair curled up on the carpet.

After continuously absorbing Dragon Crystals, its size and level had been steadily increasing.

"It's almost time for Dragonair to evolve. Should I let it?"

There were pros and cons to evolving or staying as is.

Asahi stroked Dragonair's head and asked, "What do you think? Do you want to evolve?"

"Whoo?"

Dragonair tilted its head, looking confused.

When Asahi arrived at Saffron Gym the next day, he found a group of trainers gathered outside.

He moved closer and noticed a sign posted at the entrance:

"Gym Closed for the Day."

[What's this about?]

As he pondered, a staff member in a Saffron Gym uniform approached him.

"Excuse me, are you Special Agent Asahi?"

"…That's me."

"Lady Sabrina has been expecting you. Please, follow me." The staffer gestured invitingly.

Suddenly, Asahi understood the meaning behind the notice.

So, she closed the gym just for my evaluation?

He hadn't received this level of treatment at Cerulean or Pewter Gym.

If he didn't know better, he might have thought it was a sign of respect.

But knowing that Sabrina was a Rocket Executive…

[Interesting…]

Keeping his thoughts to himself, Asahi remained calm.

"Lead the way."

Before stepping inside, he discreetly released Gardevoir, then followed with Gardevoir and Eevee at his side.

Watching this from the surveillance room, Sabrina's eyes flickered with intrigue.

[Is he just being cautious… or does he suspect me?]

She replayed their past interactions in her mind, ensuring she hadn't made any mistakes.

Then, she smirked.

[Heh… Looks like Surge's downfall has put the League on edge.]

With a chuckle, she shut off the monitors and leaned back in her seat, waiting for Asahi's arrival.

"Special Agent Asahi, Lady Sabrina is waiting inside."

With that, the staff member bowed and left, leaving Asahi standing alone before the door.

He exchanged a glance with Gardevoir before pushing the door open.

Creak—

The door swung open, revealing a standard battle arena.

At the far end sat Sabrina.

Today, she wore a tight-fitting outfit, replacing yesterday's pants with black stockings.

Unlike the Gym Leaders Asahi had faced before—Brock or the Cerulean Sisters—Sabrina showed no signs of nervousness at his arrival.

She made it clear who was the host here.

Instead of showing any unease, she simply smiled at him.

"Welcome, Special Agent Asahi."

As she spoke, the doors behind Asahi shut on their own.

Then, he noticed something strange.

Sabrina's gaze wasn't on him—it was locked onto Gardevoir, her eyes filled with curiosity and anticipation.

"Shall we begin?"

"...?"

Why was she looking at Gardevoir like that?

And why did her tone sound so... misleading?

Still, since Sabrina had already invited him, Asahi had no reason to refuse.

"If Lady Sabrina insists, then let's begin the battle evaluation…"

"But before we start, I have a question."

"My Eevee just told me it picked up the scent of Sird—the Rocket Executive who escaped yesterday—inside Saffron Gym. Can you help clear up my confusion?"

The moment Asahi spoke, Sabrina's hand, which had been casually brushing through her hair, suddenly paused.
