Chapter 2435: Testing each other



Sam activated partial fire fusion.

Golden flames swirled around him and they spread to his staff. Imari kept on shooting rapidly, trying to adjust to Sam's new speed and rhythm. Sam on the other hand, chose a different

tactic besides dodging this time.

*SWOOSH*

With a swing of his staff, golden flames materialized in the shape of the staff, but a much larger and amplified image, sweeping all the arrows in the path. Imari barely dodged the attack. She felt the heat brush past her face.

As she stepped back, she aimed a bit high and shot rapidly. Multiple arrows flew from the bow, materialized from pure spiritual energy as they moved in an irregular projectile motion. Even when she was shooting three arrows at the same time, each arrow was travelling in a different path.

Because she was that fast. She was in three different spots as they were released. It didn't even take a fraction of a second for her to shoot them down.

Sam followed her, but he didn't try to close in the distance too much and his movements became mostly linear.

The golden flames swept the whole space as he swung his staff. With just the movements of his staff, he controlled the battlefield and Imari's motion.

Even though she didn't feel any threat to her life from his moves, she knew that once she got hit, the battle's tide will completely turn.

She had a feeling and she was sure as hell not going to ignore it.

Something else that she couldn't ignore was what she realized in the next couple of minutes. Even though his movements were limited, she noticed that the intensity of the flames and the staff attacks that are bringing those flames are increasing with every passing motion.

And it became apparent with her next attack.

She shot six arrows back to back, three at a time, all six of them took on weird trajectories but were all aimed at him. Ayaan dodged the first one as he spun to the side along with the staff. The staff once again materialized into a massive golden flaming staff and it left a trail of flames as it hit the remaining five arrows. That would have been his usual rhythm that Imari got used to, but the next moment, the spin of the staff, didn't stop.

The path of the staff's movement was followed by a trail of golden flames, that blew towards her, in an expanding arc.

Just like that, an arc of golden flames came over to her, interfering her path.

She dodging it quickly enough, but Ayaan kept on spinning and swinging his staff. Arcs of golden flames, that almost looked like a moving wing of a bird, came at her repeatedly.

All of a sudden, she lost her shooting rhythm. Whenever she tried to attack Sam, a ring of golden flames attacked her.

She gritted her teeth and for the first time, she took out an actual physical arrow. Until now she was conjuring spiritual energy arrows. She didn't aim it at Sam, instead she shot it

upwards.

*BOOM*

With an explosion it created a shockwave that negated all the flames and even Sam was sent back a bit. Imari got her shooting rhythm back. Sam who just regained his balance, was bombarded by dozens of arrows coming at him from all the sides.

*SWOOSH*

He spun the staff and sent the first few flying, followed by the arcs of golden flames. They burned down the arrows and the exchange continued.

Throughout the whole exchange, Imari had a stoic face. Apart from the slight frustration she had when she was caught off guard, there wasn't a single change of expression on her face. Of course, Sam noticed it and decided to change that.

Just when she got used to it and was plotting about how to break this deadlock, Sam changed his style. The partial fusion turned to complete fusion. He swung the staff over his shoulder and sent a giant wave of golden flames over to Imari.

*BOOM* *BOOM* *BOOM*

She rapidly shot the arrows and made the giant wing disappear, however, when she got a clear view of him, she saw him standing there with a smirk on his face. The staff is resting on his shoulder, as he held it like a cue stick.

*BOOM* *BOOM* *BOOM*

He started giving vertical thrusts of the staff and each one threw off a golden fire ball. At a speed on par with her arrows.

*BOOM*

The arrows and the fire balls collided as Imari went into her zone. Her shooting speed increased to the maximum. While she was in that state, she suddenly felt her instincts screaming. Sam's attacks changed.

*BOOM*

An arrow hit the closest fireball.

However, instead of disintegrating, it split up with into much more smaller fireballs and went after her from multiple directions.

"FUCK"

Just like that, the stoic face was gone. Instead. Hundreds of smaller fire balls, as if they had a mind of their own, came at her. The scene was akin to fire works exploding in the sky.

She gritted her teeth once again and focused on dodging. As she ran, she noticed that more attacks are coming from Sam.

She knew she couldn't hold back anymore. Her left hand with which she was pulling the bow string started glowing. The energy moved in such an intricate fashion, once couldn't even begin to imagine how complex the energy structure is.

The same happened to her right hand, but while the left hand emitted an aura of sharpness, the right hand emitted an aura of extreme stability, akin to a mountain.

She swatted the incoming fire balls, and in one fluid motion, pulled her bowstring.

*SWOOSH* *BOOM*

She didn't even nock an arrow. She just pulled the bow string and the shockwaves froze all the fireballs and disintegrated her.

Sam smiled. He knew it, that moment. Just like how he had been goofing around with the staff, she had been testing him out. Using her previous attacks, were just a way of measuring the opponent's strength.

Now, she got serious. Her eyes glowed slightly and she aimed pulled the bowstring again. This time, an arrow conjured.

*BOOM*

An explosive sound came as it left the bowstring and before the previous arrow could even go past the confines of the bow, the bowstring was already pulled back and the second arrow has

already been conjured.

And the process repeated.

Sam watched as the energy arrows came at him. In a blink of an eye, they were already there.

He swung the staff, sending the golden flames, but the arrows just penetrated it and came at him. The superificial attacks had no impact on them.

He kicked the air, using the recoil style he picked up from White and shot himself like a rocket.

*BANG* He swung the staff and hit the arrow directly, the energy arrow was so solid, that it felt like an actual metal arrow. It even reacted like one and got deflected. But even before it could truly go into its new trajectory, before it could react to the force of deflection, it

exploded.

*BOOM*

Sam was thrown to the side and he was already in the path of the second arrow. He quickly regained his balance and swung the staff, however this time, he was prepared.

'Recoil style'

The staff made contact and this time, the arrow went down in its new trajectory, while Sam

was also thrown away by the residual force.

He was fast, but Imari was faster.

Her arrows, were coming, dozens at a time, in a fraction of a second. Sam had to go on full

defensive mode. Even though the flames raging from each of his swings, created some

confusion, it wasn't enough.

He was like a pinball moving from one arrow to another. Whenever he used a bit more energy into his swing, Imari caught it and increased her attack intensity just by that much.

She finally felt like she had control over the battle and now started thinking of how to take

down Sam while he was still in that state. It wasn't that she didn't have any skills in mind, but she was worried about Sam's counter attacks.

She knew the current state of Sam is not his ideal state. He had way too many tricks up his sleeves, mostly those card tricks. She had witnessed the battles back in the inter academy

tournament.

The reason why she wasn't spamming lethal attacks that could kill him instantly was because

it takes a couple of seconds to prep that attack.

Those couple of seconds, could become lethal to her, if he pulls something out of his ass. So, she played to keep him busy while gauging his strength.

Now, she was trying to figure which attack can she pair with this rapid firing so that Sam would still be in state and will have no choice but to take the attack.

However, what she didn't consider while thinking all of this nonsense is that, just like how

she was testing him, Sam could be testing her too. While Sam thought that, she didn't think of possibility and only focused way too much on his tricks.
