Chapter 9: Inspell-expell
Refreshed from his rest, despite the sub-optimal sleeping location of the cold floor, they prepared for their magic advancement for the day.
They started by practicing their full body inspell. They reserved some energy for later, as they wanted to try using the rough rock as a conduit later.
They did their usual routine, concentrate on their body, and try to hold it. The issue that they were having was once they put their energy into stasis, their concentration would act as glue, but the natural desire to flow of the energy pulled it away, returning it to the state of movement.
But, just by repeating their inspell, the felt that they were making some improvements. It felt that the concentration leaves a little residue that builds up after it initially puts the energy in stasis, allowing for further attempts to stay in their body for longer.
In the new day, after a couple bouts of practicing, they were able to reach their goal of holding a full body inspell for ten seconds.
[Minor inspell retainment achieved]
They now wanted to try their isolation technique in their left hand. They decided to use their pain induction method again. Their ability to maintain their full body inspell was good enough, so they decided to just punch a wall to bring more concentration into his fist.
They faced the wall, getting ready to hit it quickly after their concentration started.
Crash
They started their concentration, bringing their full body inspell into affect. They then hit the wall with their left fist after two seconds. Over the course of five seconds, they felt their energy in a way they hadn't before.
They felt the slight strength the inspell gave them leave the rest of their body and flood into their left fist. They now only had to use their concentration on their fist, which made it easier to maintain than the rest of their body. This let them hold it for about five seconds, giving their whole routine the time of thirteen seconds. Not bad for now.
It definitely felt like there was some power in their left hand now. It would be able to do slightly more damage to whatever it would hit, or provide them more strength if he was to use a tool. They felt a slight heat in their hands as the energy entered it.
Eventually, the strength faded, but they were happy. They at least now had some kind of usable form of the energy.
[Usable isolation inspell obtained]
They now turned their attention to the rough rock. It had brought them to where they were now, they hoped it would help them continue.
They grabbed it in their hand, getting a feel for it completely. They assumed they would have to have an intimate connection with the object in order to use it as a conduit.
They reminded themselves of what the rough rock felt like. It was about seven pounds, a solid size. It was a portion of the floor of the first room that had broken off. The rough edges were around the entire rock, making it scratch their flesh when they were holding it.
There would be two steps to the usage of the conduit. They would first have to put their energy into the conduit, and then expel out of it.
"For putting it in, I'm wondering how I should do it, the rock isn't literally part of me so I can't concentrate my mind on it as easily." They thought.
They chose their first method of trying to put their energy in.
"Because my hand is the thing that is touching the rock, then I should isolate into my hand, and then go from there, trying to put it into the rock." They thought.
They readied themselves, taking a short rest by walking a lap around the dungeon, clearing their mind, and preparing them.
They firmly grasped the rock, having as much surface area of their hands touching as much of the rock as possible.
They started with their concentration for a full body inspell.
[full body inspell active]
They then maintained the stasis in their hands.
[isolated inspell in left hand active] (two seconds passed)
Maintaining their inspell, they waited for the energy to build up over the short period, the warm feeling in their hand building up.
[energy build up in left hand active] (seven seconds passed)
This was as far as they previously got. Through their practice, they were being able to make it feel more fluid. After all, they had nothing to do all day except for practice magic, rest to recover mana, and play with their random objects to pass the time.
Now, they imagined the rock, and all it encompassed. They pictured it in it's entirety. They now then tried to push their energy into the rock. It wasn't working so far.
[time wasting] (ten seconds passed)
Feeling frustrated, they dug their palm into the rock, feeling the sharp edges. Somehow, this formed a little bit of a connection. It was enough for them to feel a little bit of their energy entering the rock.
It felt different from what their energy entering their fist felt like. Where it was in stasis in the fist, when flowing it into the rock, it was in motion, forming a loop between the hand and the rock, filling it up with circling energy.
[connection established with rock] (thirteen seconds passed)
Strangely, they felt a slight amount of energy present in the rock already.
They felt that their time was growing short. With the few moments they would have left in the state they were in, they tried to sear in their mind the feeling of cycling the energy through the rock.
Desiring one last push, one last effort to do something with the rock, they pushed their energy from their hand almost completely into the rock.
Xshhhhhh
Staring in amazement, the saw from one end of the rock, a slight red light emerging. They had finally been able to bring their energy out, through the rock by overloading the husk of the rock with their energy. They decided to call this "Expell".
Their victory high of expelling their first amount of energy didn't last long. Through all the effort they had expended, their spell-thirst was overwhelming. Losing their strength in their whole body, they collapsed, falling asleep satisfied.
