Rebirth: The rise of the Spirit King

Chapter 5: Chapter 4- Culprit

Every person advanced toward the front gate of the mansion.

The news of the young master's return spread like wildfire, and in no time, a whole crowd was around the main entrance, with the young master in the middle.

"B-Baby..." Carl's mother—Anastasia had tears in her eyes.

These few hours she couldn't see her child had her scared to death. She couldn't remember how many times she had asked her other son about him.

She kept on looking at the news and contacting people to ask about her son.

"Carl what are you ..." Elion approached his son as he saw him holding a knife and blood stains on his clothes.

Carl heaved a sigh, "I was kidnapped, father. Those two bastards took me away."

"Caleb and Cecily?" Victor asked, his voice dripping with blood lust.

It was suspected that the two servants, who were also not present in the mansion, might have to do something with Carl's kidnapping.

And just as everyone thought, "Yeah, they kidnapped me. They kept me in some abandoned factory until I got rid of them."

Saying so, he dropped the knife to the ground and was instantly, hugged by his mother.

"Did they hurt you? Does it hurt somewhere?" More than Carl ever could, the lady seemed in pain as she continued to wail while hugging him.

Carl didn't say anything about that and told his father, "When Caleb was on the verge of death, he revealed his reason to kidnap me."

Elion frowned, "First come inside and let the medic check on you-"

"No, I don't feel safe inside that house where someone is conspiring against me," Carl spoke, acting out characters to appear emotional.

Victoria gasped while Anastasia trembled as she asked, "B-Baby?"

"Carl...what are you saying?" Victor asked as he stepped forward.

"No, please don't come closer. I can't trust anyone at the moment except for Mother." Carl warned, his eyes trembling in fear and anxiety.

Victor paused...no, he was stunned.

It could be sensed how paranoid Carl was which meant he had heard something from Caleb and Cecily that broke his trust in his family.

Elion, very calmly, asked, "Son, tell me, what did they say?"

Anastasia held her son's hand and assured him, "No one will harm you, baby....what happened?"

Carl, with his eyes drawn to the ground, spoke, "They said...someone from the family....kidnapped their daughter and forced them to kidnap me."

Hearing those words, a certain family member stiffened, however, before they could move, Elion spoke,

"Surround everyone and go check inside the house for Shelly!" Elion commanded.

He couldn't let his son fear his family members. As his father and the head of the house, it would be his failure to let his family members suspect each other. That's why, just to assure Carl that those two bastards lied to him, Elion commanded.

No one showed any resistance to that command, except for one, who visibly stiffened and wanted to reach their room as soon as they could.

Carl raised his eyes and looked at the person who actually had kidnapped Shelly.

'Got you....' He suppressed a grin from appearing on his face as he saw the man's pale face.

Carl knew that if he brought Caleb and Cecily with him, the culprit would instantly kill Shelly. Taking the culprit's name directly might have caused a delay in the investigation. That's why this whole drama of being paranoid and fearful of his family members. He wanted to shake Elion down to his core.

'It's more difficult to act than to slaughter stray beasts...' But well, it was necessary, given he wanted to get rid of unnecessary drama in the future.

"*Cough* *Cough*"

Suddenly, someone began coughing from the five members of the Ravenshade family who were surrounded.

Carl narrowed his eyes at the man, while Victoria asked, "Are you okay, Aron?" It was her younger brother and the a**wipe who ordered Caleb and Cecily, who suddenly began coughing.

"I-I think I forgot to take my medicine..." The lanky man spoke as he looked extremely sick and swaying at his spot.

"What? But Aron...the doctor said-" Victoria was cut off by her brother,

"I didn't eat anything....was worried about my nephew." He spoke, and those words touched Anastasia and Victoria's heart.

"Someone please bring the medicine for him." Anastasia voiced, however,

"It's in my locker. I need to go-"

"No," Elion spoke, not even turning to look at him, "No one can leave until the house is checked. So stay there, Aron." Those domineering words made Aron flinch as he looked at his sister

However, even Victoria couldn't help in this situation given how paranoid Carl seemed, "Just wait for a bit, brother. Let them search the house."

Anastasia seemed reluctant to let Aron suffer, considering his condition; however, against her Lord, she didn't dare to speak.

Aron glanced around...this was bad. If they searched his room, they would definitely find the girl he was hiding.

'Those two idiots couldn't even kill a kid!' All he could do now was to grit his teeth. However, getting frustrated here wouldn't save him.

The time was ticking, and Aron knew that that guard would surely come back here with the girl by their side.

He looked around....there were thirty guards around him—however, considering how many were inside, the main entrance must be unguarded.

'Fuck this!' Turning toward his left, he enhanced his limbs and decided to run as fast as he could. But—

*SQUELCH*

A blade pierced through Aron's thigh and dug into the ground—making Aron's eyes widen as he turned to look who just stabbed him—only to find his pain being overwhelmed by shock.

"S-Sis..." The only person whom he trusted the most and hoped for support from....stabbed him.

With her eyes icy cold, the lady kept her hand tightly clenched around the sword handle, as she muttered, "Did you not hear my husband the first time? No one leaves until little Carl isn't assured."

Anastasia narrowed her eyes, all her previous sympathy disappearing as she hugged her son once again and whispered, "Don't worry baby....the traitor will be wiped off."

Victor and Elion didn't shift an inch from their spot even though the culprit was in front of them.

It was not until the loud wailing of a little girl was heard and the guard informed from which room Shelly was recovered, that Elion moved.

Turning to look at weeping Aron, he voiced, "You know the rule: betray my trust, and you won't live long enough to regret it."
