Reborn as a Surgeon: The Mafia Queen's Second Life

Chapter 21: Chapter 21 Pressure

A few hours after the meeting in the control room, Leo and Damien were double-checking the bunker's defense systems. The atmosphere was relatively calm—until suddenly, the alarm blared, and warning signals flashed on the main screen.

"Activity detected on the outer perimeter! Five unidentified vehicles approaching fast!" one of the officers shouted.

Leo stepped closer. "Zoom in. Run identification!"

The drone footage focused on a convoy of armored vehicles, and Damien immediately recognized the emblem.

"It's... Marco. They've found us," Damien muttered, his jaw clenched tight.

Leo glanced at Damien, then at Alina, who stood anxiously behind them. "We're accelerating the plan. There's no time left."

Damien gave sharp orders to his team. "Activate the weapons. Seal all entry points. War could break out any minute."

Before they could fully prepare, several systems on the control panel suddenly shut down one by one.

"Power's out in the west sector!" one of the technicians shouted.

Leo scanned the screen. "Something's off... This isn't a normal malfunction."

And sure enough, the main screen flickered, then went completely dark. A few seconds later, dim emergency lights kicked in.

Damien slammed the table. "They've breached the system. Damn it, this isn't just a physical attack. Marco brought a tech expert."

Alina bolted from the room in panic. "The ICU! Lana could be in danger!"

Damien issued quick instructions. "Leo, go with her! Use the manual supply—backup's on the west side!"

Leo nodded firmly. "Aileen, come on!"

The two of them hurried off. Leo led the way, already familiar with the bunker's emergency medical systems, while Alina focused on stabilizing the ICU equipment.

"If power doesn't come back in five minutes, her ventilator will completely shut down," Leo muttered, working swiftly to hook up the manual supply.

"Focus, Leo. I'll handle Lana. You make sure the backup holds," Alina snapped, her eyes locked on the heart monitor.

Meanwhile, in the control room, Damien led his team in a race against time, trying to cut off Marco's hacker. Faint explosions rumbled in the distance, vibrations reaching even the underground floors.

BOOM!

Dust rained from the ceiling like ash. Alina held her breath, catching the scent of burning wires. Panic spread through the hospital section. Damien's medical staff worked to calm the other patients. The warning sirens blared as Damien activated the intercom.

"Everyone to battle positions. We're under attack!"

Just as Lana's breathing stabilized, thanks to Leo and Alina's efforts, another explosion rocked the bunker. The blast sent a wave of trauma through the already fragile patients.

Leo glanced at Alina before leaving. "If things get worse, I'll head up to help the injured."

Alina nodded. "Go. I'll hold things down here."

Leo looked at her for a moment, then gave a small nod. "In that case... take this."

He handed her a small pistol, cold in her hands. "I'm going to check the situation upstairs," he whispered.

Alina gave a bitter smile. Weapons weren't exactly new to her, but her body never quite adjusted to holding them.

"You'll need it more than me," she said, handing it back to Leo.

Above them, Marco's forces had already begun their assault. That night, the once-quiet secret bunker transformed into a brutal battlefield.

The bunker descended into chaos. Explosions shook the floors in rapid succession—but in the ICU, there was only silence... an unsettling kind of silence.

Alina stood at Lana's bedside, eyes sharp, scanning every detail.

Raka, who had been suspiciously calm, prepared an injection. "Just giving Lana some extra meds to stabilize her," he said flatly.

But as the needle lifted, Alina knew something was wrong. The liquid in the vial wasn't ordinary medicine. Its faint yellow hue... nerve toxin.

Without hesitation, Alina's hand shot out like lightning. She slapped Raka's hand away before the needle could pierce the IV line.

CLANG!

The syringe clattered to the floor.

Raka staggered back a half step, startled, but Alina was already standing between him and Lana, her gaze ice-cold. The same glare that once made her enemies in the underworld tremble.

"I should've suspected from the start... You're no ordinary doctor," Alina hissed, drawing a small folding knife from her boot. The steel glinted dangerously under the dim emergency lights.

Raka smirked faintly, but his eyes were uneasy. His fingers clenched the vial a little too tightly. "What are you doing, Dr. Aileen? I'm just administering medicine."

Alina narrowed her eyes, fury simmering beneath her calm exterior. "You sure that's medicine to heal her?" she said coldly. "Or to finish her off?"

Raka began to shift nervously. In one swift motion, he pulled a pistol from beneath his white coat.

But Alina was faster.

She lunged forward, smooth and deadly—like a predator taking down its prey. One sharp kick knocked the gun from his hand. It skidded across the floor with a metallic clatter.

Without missing a beat, Alina struck his wrist, forcing him to his knees, and pressed the knife to his throat.

"Did you really think you could fool me?" she whispered, voice sharp as steel. "I knew from the start you were a traitor."

Raka tried to resist, but Alina was quicker. She twisted his arms behind his back, locking him in place, the blade still pressed to his neck.

"How long have you been working for Marco?" she hissed into his ear, her breath as cold as ice.

Raka remained silent. His breathing grew ragged, sweat beading on his forehead.

Through the intercom, Leo's voice crackled, "Aileen, status?"

Alina pressed the button without releasing Raka. "Secure. Send someone to pick up this trash."

A few minutes later, Damien's team arrived with handcuffs.

Alina tossed Raka to the floor like discarded garbage. "Watch him. Don't let him die before I'm done asking questions."

Leo appeared at the door, briefly glancing at the groaning Raka. Alina said nothing as she calmly wiped her blade. Raka was dragged away in tight restraints.

"They're after Lana's life, Doc," Leo muttered.

Alina returned to Lana's side, ensuring the ventilator was stable, her eyes sharp like a tiger guarding her wounded cub.

Meanwhile, Leo picked up the dropped syringe and inspected it carefully. He sniffed the contents lightly.

"Poison?" he said, surprised. "For the brain's nerves?"

Leo looked at Alina amid the chaos. "Now we know... the enemy is already inside."

Alina could only nod softly, her heart still pounding.

"So... who else is waiting to stab us in the back?"

Leo exhaled heavily. "We're finding the traitor. Now."

Elsewhere, a man paced nervously, his fingers tapping rapidly on his phone, calling someone over and over.

"Damn it!" he muttered, his jaw clenching. "Where the hell is he? How dare he ignore my call?"

His glare drilled into the screen, which only responded with endless ringing. In frustration, he kicked the chair in front of him, knocking it over.

"If he's double-crossing me... he's dead."

Moments later, the call finally connected. Without checking who picked up, he launched straight into his demands.

"How's the job? Is the plan going smoothly?"

Silence. No reply.

The man gritted his teeth, his temper flaring.

"Hey! Answer me!" he barked.

Still nothing.

His eyes narrowed as he let out a slow breath, lowering his voice to a cold, deadly whisper.

"Listen closely... Don't play games with me. Remember, your mother's life is in my hands."
