Reborn in a cultivation world with my Ex girlfriends

Chapter 18: How to Survive an Unfair Training Session Without Dying (Barely)

Wang Li awoke to pain.

Not the normal kind of pain. Not the "I tripped on a rock" kind of pain.

No.

This was the "I've been beaten up by three ex-girlfriends with overwhelming cultivation and now every inch of my body feels like it's been chewed up and spat out by a demonic beast" kind of pain.

He groaned and tried to sit up.

His entire body protested.

"Ow…"

"You're awake!"

A sweet voice reached his ears. Wang Li winced as he turned his head—only to see Mu Qingling smiling down at him.

He instinctively flinched.

Mu Qingling pouted. "Wang Li! Why are you acting like I'm a monster?"

"You threw me like a ragdoll," Wang Li grumbled. "After trapping me in a bubble of water. Who even does that?"

Mu Qingling giggled. "You were so cute, trying to be clever!"

Wang Li sighed. So this was his life now.

Then he heard another voice.

"Oh, good, you're not dead. That means training continues."

Wang Li froze.

A feeling of dread crawled up his spine.

Slowly, painfully, he turned his head—

And saw Feng Yuling sharpening her dagger.

Lin Ruoyan stood beside her, stretching her arms, flames flickering around her fingers.

"Morning," she said cheerfully. "Ready for round two?"

NO.

Wang Li sat up so fast he almost passed out again. "Wait, WAIT! Shouldn't I get at least a DAY to recover?!"

Feng Yuling smirked. "Do your enemies wait for you to recover before attacking?"

"THAT'S NOT THE SAME THING!"

Lin Ruoyan laughed. "Relax, we're not that heartless. We let you sleep."

"FOR HOW LONG?!"

Mu Qingling raised a finger. "Two hours."

Wang Li's soul left his body.

Step One to Surviving an Unfair Training Session: Accept Your Fate

Feng Yuling tossed him a wooden training sword.

"Let's go," she said.

Wang Li barely caught the sword in time. "Huh? Wait, we're using weapons now?"

Feng Yuling tilted her head. "You wanted to improve, didn't you?"

Wang Li swallowed. "I also wanted to live."

Lin Ruoyan rolled her eyes. "Oh, stop whining. You survived yesterday, didn't you?"

"Barely!"

Mu Qingling clapped her hands. "I believe in you, Wang Li!"

Wang Li sighed. He was outnumbered, outmatched, and out of options.

"Fine," he muttered, gripping the sword. "Let's do this."

Feng Yuling smiled. "Good answer."

Then—she vanished.

Wang Li barely saw the dagger flash toward him.

He blocked.

Clang!

The impact rattled his bones.

Feng Yuling's dagger struck his wooden sword so fast he barely reacted in time.

Wang Li gritted his teeth. "I really, REALLY hate how fast you are!"

Feng Yuling smirked. "You'll have to do better than that."

Then she attacked again.

Her dagger darted toward his side—

Wang Li twisted his body just in time to avoid being cut.

Then he countered.

"Golden Serpent Slash!"

His wooden sword glowed with qi, slashing in a perfect arc—

But Feng Yuling disappeared again.

Damn it!

Step Two to Surviving an Unfair Training Session: Don't Fight an Assassin Who Can Literally Vanish

Wang Li gritted his teeth. He had to think.

If he couldn't see her, then he had to predict her movements.

He closed his eyes.

Lin Ruoyan frowned from the sidelines. "Huh? He's shutting his eyes?"

Mu Qingling clapped. "Oh! He's using his qi senses!"

Feng Yuling's voice whispered behind him.

"Clever."

Too late.

Pain exploded in his back as the blunt edge of her dagger slammed into his shoulder.

Wang Li stumbled forward, coughing.

"Still not fast enough," she murmured.

"Dragon Step: Mirage!"

Wang Li vanished.

For the first time, Feng Yuling's eyes widened.

Then—he struck.

His sword clashed against her dagger, forcing her back for the first time.

Lin Ruoyan let out a whistle. "Oh? That was pretty good!"

Mu Qingling clapped. "Yay, Wang Li!"

Wang Li panted. "I… I actually landed a hit?"

Feng Yuling nodded. "Barely."

Then she disappeared again.

"OH COME ON!"

Step Three to Surviving an Unfair Training Session: Don't Celebrate Too Early

Feng Yuling wasn't the only one he had to worry about.

The moment their spar ended, Lin Ruoyan stepped forward.

"My turn!" she announced.

Wang Li stared at her. "Can't I get a BREAK?!"

Lin Ruoyan grinned. "Nope!"

BOOM.

A fireball exploded toward him.

Wang Li barely dodged, rolling to the side.

Lin Ruoyan rushed forward, fire swirling around her fists.

"Flaming Lotus Fist!"

Wang Li had no time to dodge.

He crossed his arms, reinforcing them with qi.

Lin Ruoyan's punch slammed into him.

BOOM!

Wang Li flew backward, crashing into the dirt.

He groaned. "I hate this. I hate this so much."

Mu Qingling leaned forward. "Wang Li! Are you okay?"

"No!"

Lin Ruoyan laughed. "Oh, don't be so dramatic. Get up, we're not done."

Wang Li sighed and forced himself to stand.

"Fine. But this time… I won't go easy."

Lin Ruoyan raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"

Wang Li gripped his sword tighter.

Then—

His qi flared.

Lin Ruoyan's grin widened. "Oh. Now we're talking."

The fight had just begun.
