Reincarnated as a Dragon and Raised by a Demon

Chapter 25

Jere, who dropped me off near the train station, handed me a yellow mask.

“This is a gift for forcibly bringing you here.”

“Did you make it yourself?”

“The angel gave me a few.”

What on earth is Jere’s method of communication with angels?

After leaving me with those words, Jere got back in the car and drove off, leaving the city.

I went to the train station to assess the situation.

People who looked like soldiers were controlling the train station, and among them, I spotted a familiar face.

“Aila!”

As I called out, Aila quickly found me among the crowd.

She cut off her conversation with a soldier and came to me at a brisk pace.

“What happened?”

“It’s a bit complicated to explain.”

Aila summoned a few soldiers and ordered them to take me to the hotel.

I could have gone alone, but since a big incident had just happened, I complied without resistance.

Upon arriving at the hotel, the soldiers did not leave but followed me to my room.

“You can go back now…”

“The captain ordered us to guard the room as well.”

Five soldiers stood guard, with two assigned to each room, and one guarding the elevator.

It was questionable whether such security was necessary, but I definitely felt protected.

Once inside the room, Jema rushed over and hugged me tightly.

“Where have you been!”

“That is…”

I tried to respond, but every excuse felt inadequate.

“I’m sorry.”

“Why did you go to the train station?”

I briefly explained what had happened at the train station.

I told her about fighting while protecting hostages and eventually being captured by Jere.

“Why was that person underneath?”

I hadn’t expected to ask the most important question of myself.

Why was Jere there at that time?

He claimed he was just walking.

The problem is, I questioned whether there was any reason to walk beneath the train station.

I hadn’t seen the entire station yet, so I couldn’t make a hasty judgment.

“I can’t believe him blindly.”

After the research was done, he simply released me and even took me to the city.

Maybe he’s not such a bad person after all.

Around dinner time, there was a loud salute sound heard from beyond the door.

There was only one person who would receive such a salute.

After Aila returned to the room, I once again repeated what I had told Jema and Catherine.

“Are they researching angels in the basement?”

“Well, at least he says he’s an angel. Are angels really a thing?”

Aila slightly opened the door and ordered something from the soldier outside.

The topic of angels was temporarily put on hold, and while we chatted, someone knocked at the door.

“Come in.”

The door opened, and a person entered, looking somewhat unique.

He had only one wing on his back and was missing an arm.

“Hello, Captain.”

“Yeah. It’s been a while. I called you since I heard you’re staying in this city.”

It seemed Aila was already acquainted with him.

“I’m Sain. I currently teach history at the school.”

“Why a history teacher?”

“This person was a former soldier who retired and became a teacher.”

“Most of the history I teach is something I’ve experienced myself.”

A history class taught by someone who appears in actual history books.

But I wondered why they brought someone named Sain.

“Can’t Aila explain history well enough too?”

“Do you think I have deep knowledge?”

“Isn’t that so?”

“If it’s not my specialization, there are many things I don’t know either.”

She admitted she knows nothing about angels and said that was the reason for bringing Sain on.

Sain said he had been interested in history since his time in the military.

“So you want to know about angels?”

“Yeah, as detailed as possible.”

“It might be boring for regular folks to listen to though.”

“Then make it understandable to the maximum.”

Then Sain began to speak.

“Angels were a race that existed long ago. They are currently an extinct race.”

“Why did they go extinct?”

“War. Angels were the weapons of war in a place called the Celestial Realm at that time. But the dragons fought against them. As you all know, the result was mutual destruction.”

“Is it possible that such beings as angels still exist?”

Sain nodded, saying it is quite possible.

“What would happen if angels were resurrected?”

“Their utility as war machines is obvious.”

They would be used again on the battlefield, or if they are useless, they would be discarded.

Jere said he would resurrect angels to cleanse the world.

“How strong are angels?”

“They fought on equal footing with dragons but ultimately lost. Regular demons would stand no chance.”

If angels were resurrected, it wouldn’t bode well for this world.

I thought that perhaps I should visit Jere’s lab and dispose of the angels.

“Anyway, there do exist pieces of angels. For some reason, those pieces do not decay.”

I understood why it was okay to have just a head floating around in Jere’s lab.

Even if their bodies are shattered and don’t decay, gathering them could make resurrection possible.

“But have you ever seen a piece of an angel?”

“Huh?”

I threw a glance at Aila.

A silent question of whether I could tell Sain about what I had seen.

Reading my gaze, Aila shook her head vigorously.

“No. I was just wondering what would happen if they do exist.”

“I once saw a piece of an angel while in the military. They had about two for research purposes.”

After that, Sain’s tale was filled with trivial details.

He also had never seen an angel personally, so his discussions were based only on speculation.

After finishing his story, Sain left the room, escorted by the soldiers.

The remaining three of us fell into deep thought.

“Shouldn’t we capture that Jere guy?”

Jema was the first to speak.

“Researching angels isn’t illegal. As Sain said, the military is researching them as well, and since specimens are scarce, it seems they don’t particularly hinder civilian research.”

After discussing various points, we decided to put off the subject of Jere for now.

The chaotic state of the train station meant our departure would be delayed by a few days.

“By the way, what happened to those ghostly guys?”

“Some died at the scene, and some were captured, but there were also those who escaped.”

Was it a coincidence that their goal aligned with Jere’s?

I thought of Jere as their leader because of the talk of cleansing the world.

I still didn’t understand what exactly it meant that if angels were resurrected, the world would be cleansed.

“Still under investigation, but they seem to be from Latnia.”

“Do such incidents happen often?”

“Not that it never happens. Although Latnia officially seems to have no intention of starting a war, sometimes such guys appear.”

Maybe it’s a plot to gradually collapse that country through terrorism.

It was a day filled with many thoughts.

The next day, I left the hotel with Aila while being guarded by soldiers.

“Where are we going?”

“To the interrogation room. I thought you seemed good at interrogating.”

What I had done to Catherine was simply a threat.

I had been using my advantageous position with Aila and Jema beside me.

The building near the hotel bore a familiar name.

JS Corporation.

“Are we going to interrogate here?”

“This investigation is being conducted by the military. By the way, I’m in charge, so feel free to go ahead.”

Even though she said to go ahead, I had no idea what to do.

We took the elevator to the 13th floor.

As the elevator doors opened, the interior appeared to be under construction, looking quite empty.

There were no railings by the windows, which seemed very dangerous, and construction materials were scattered everywhere.

In the bleak background, a few chairs were set up, and people were bound to them.

There was considerable blood pooling around, indicating that they had already been tortured several times.

It was unreasonable to expect someone, who hadn’t spoken even after such torture, to speak to me.

“How’s the atmosphere?”

“These fellows won’t open their mouths. They’re tough!”

One soldier punched the face of the person sitting in the chair.

“So, that’s why I brought in an expert.”

“Uh, a kid….”

The soldier couldn’t finish his sentence and covered his mouth.

I thought Aila wouldn’t have brought me without any considerations.

Of those present, I was the most confused.

I had never interrogated anyone, let alone tortured anyone.

The soldiers, who were interrogating the captured criminals, halted their questioning and gathered around Aila.

I stood there blankly under everyone’s gaze.

“Okay, start.”

Aila said with a soft smile.

I had no idea how, but I took out a dagger to try something.

Then I approached one of the criminals.

“Hmm. You have nothing you want to say, right?”

“…….”

“Yes. Then don’t say anything.”

I struck the criminal’s solar plexus with the hand gripping the dagger.

With the strength of merely a child, there was no way an adult who had endured harsh torture would die from such an attack.

The criminal hit by my fist lowered his head and fainted, so I moved on to the next criminal beside him.

“You don’t want to say anything, do you?”

After several repetitions of the same method, when I approached the last one, he screamed and begged for his life.

“Do you want to say something now?”

“Anything, anything!”

There was a short partition installed between the criminals.

From their viewpoint, they could hardly see the appearances of the colleague next to them.

They wouldn’t know what I was doing while moving from one to another.

It seemed more effective to instill fear rather than pain.

“Okay, where are you from?”

“L-Latnia.”

“No, I mean something else.”

I lightly jabbed his thigh with the dagger.

“Ugh! I came from Latnia!”

“No, that’s not what I want to know.”

I gradually moved the still sheathed dagger up and down.

The criminal, in pain, kept repeating the name Latnia.

“Let me ask again. Where. Did. You. Come. From?”

“Third Special Operations Team….”

“Good. Keep talking.”

After that, the criminal spilled details about who had given the orders for their mission and what their goal was.

“Is there anything else you want to know?”

When I looked toward Aila and asked, a soldier approached.

“A hideout that we’ve prepared for activities.”

The criminal hesitated for a moment, but as I moved my hand toward the dagger, he spat out names and locations of various cities.
