Chapter 10: I need to go to Ancient Court?
Lexus followed her from behind; the woman in front of him was gorgeous and a schemer for sure, but Lex wanted to gather up information.
Information is the key to survival; Lex has almost zero information about this world; he just knows some basic stuff.
As they walked out of the castle perimeter, some yellow-clothed guards joined her in order to protect her.
As they descended from the stairs of the castle, three yellow-flagged carriages approached them.
"I hope you don't mind, Your Highness." The women pointed at the carriage and then gestured for Lex to enter it.
Lex, shrugging his shoulder, entered the carriage; the carriage felt luxurious inside and was decorated with many golden-colored threads.
Olivia then entered the same carriage, and a yellow armored guard closed the door behind her.
"I am sorry for introducing myself so late, Your Highness. My name is Olivia Bolton." Olivia bowed a little while sitting down to show her respect.
Lex, seeing this, just nodded his head, as he had to earn his respect from these people, as she was the only one among the nobility who had a positive loyalty towards him.
"I am Lexus Theodore. I thought after getting twelve years old, I would get to sit on my throne." Lexus directly went to the point as the carriage started to move in the street.
Lexus felt uncomfortable in the carriage as it didn't even have springs to balance out the shock; every uneven ground and bump was directly transmitted towards his body.
Lexus looked at Olivia only to see her not being bothered with such a thing in the slightest.
"It's not that easy, Your Highness. You are twelve years old, that's certain, as you've left the castle, but you need the order of the court to sit on that throne," Olivia said while her breasts were jumping here and there with each bump on the road.
"How do I get it?" Lexus leaned forward and asked slowly.
"Well, you don't. The court decides when you get it. The current Regent, the Prime Minister, and the Grand General were once good friends, and after the previous Duke passed away, they applied to the court together for a regency," Olivia said with a smile, then pulled out a box of fruits to eat.
"So? I am never going to take over the throne?" Lexus asked, as he was eager to get what belongs to him by hook or crook if needed.
"That's not entirely true either, hehe. Let me explain. Your personal maid, Rita, you remember her, correct?" Olivia asked as Lex noticed the carriage was heading left.
"Yes, she took care of me." Lexus nodded his head.
"She was actually a spy sent by me. Now don't misunderstand, she was not spying on you; she was just misguiding the Grand General." Olivia smiled, then gave a piece of weird-looking fruit to Lex, and Lex took the fruit, and it smelled like an orange.
"The Grand General was confining you as he was head of the security; he could legally do that. Do you even know why you are alive?" Olivia suddenly asked.
"No, tell me. They could've easily killed me and taken the throne for themselves." Lexus has thought about it but doesn't know why they kept him alive.
"Well, it's because of the Ancient Court."
"Ancient Court?"
"Yes, Your Highness, Ancient Court has strict rules, and there's one for people like you, who are rulers by birth. The Court says if a ruler dies and doesn't have any heir left, then the territory should go to the neighboring rulers. Priority should be the bigger rulers nearby, so if you were dead, nobody could inherit the throne. It would have gone to the Thaal Kingdom. Even now, if you die, the whole duchy goes to the Thaal King," Olivia said while Lex was nodding his head in understanding.
"So basically, me being alive is a great thing?" Lexus asked.
"Not necessarily. You could die, and we will just get demoted under the king or robbed of our territory, so you being alive means we nobles get to continue being rich and powerful." Olivia said this and smiled sweetly.
"So you're the one that was giving fake reports on purpose to the Grand General?" Lexus asked, as he understood one thing: that Grand General never considered him a threat ever because of that maid.
"Rita did, yes, she's still considered one of the most trusted personnel in Grand General's camp. She always told Grand General that you're a retarded person, but after today maybe she'll die," Olivia said while the carriage stopped in front of a huge mansion, and then someone opened the door for them.
"That's really sad. So are you on my team?" Lexus asked, as he felt pity for the maid, but he had to survive for now, even if his life was in constant danger.
"Of course I am a loyal subject; don't worry about me," Olivia said with a smile, then got down from the carriage and walked ahead, and Lexus followed her from behind.
"Alright, So tell me, what's the quickest way possible to get that order? Do you really think I could wait for the court to deliver it to me?" Lexus asked; his voice sounded a little eager because this duchy looked wealthy, and if they hired a powerful assassin like last time, he would die in his sleep.
"I can give you a suggestion, but you have to promise me something," Olivia said with a cheeky smile.
"Tell me," Lexus asked. Seeing the smile, he got a bad feeling about it.
"Nothing that impressive. Just make me the prime minister if you successfully sit on that throne and let me kill that traitor, Edmund," Olivia said while gritting her teeth in anger.
"That's it? Alright, tell me how I can get that order or whatever to sit on that throne," Lexus said while sitting down on a sofa that was not comfortable at all.
"Well, you have to go to the Ancient Court yourself to get that order," Olivia said while gracefully sitting down.
"Do I have to go to Ancient Court?" Lexus frowned as he didn't know where this court is or whatever is in this world.
"Well, yes, I understand you've never left the castle perimeters, so you don't know the geography, and I can't give you someone from my house as well because the Grand General and Prime Minister's spy is all over my estate," Olivia said while making a sad face.
Lex, seeing the fake sad face, gritted his teeth a little, but soon he calmed down and smiled at Olivia.
"Your Highness, I can give you another suggestion, but you have to give me something else in return," Olivia said. She was in a good mood today.
"What?" Lexus asked with a little bitbof anger in his voice.
"Nothing. When you open the treasury, I want to pick an item from it," Olivia said. Her greed was clearly showing in her eyes.
"Alright, Tell me the other suggestion. If it's not useful, then our deal is off," Lex said, as he was not even sure what treasury she was talking about.
"Slave," Olivia said with pride in her voice and then smiled widely.
Lexus, hearing this, narrowed his eyes; he was not stupid; he knew exactly what she was talking about. In this world, slaves are common; they were treated like commodities everywhere.
