Chapter 34: Chapter 33: The Trumpet of War 2
Chapter 33: The Trumpet of War 2
The bald warrior issued rapid commands through his voice while his composure turned into an urgent state. The remaining fighters hurriedly took defensive positions by raising shields and weapons.
But the mushrooms had adapted.
A muscular mushroom attacked with a glistening body covered in an unusual sticky substance. The unnatural speed of the mushroom allowed it to seize a warrior's shield between its hands.
And crushed it.
The metal structure gave way to the unattainable force which resulted in its transformation into deformed metal pieces. The warrior behind the shield had no time to shout before a massive fist destroyed his skull.
Blood splattered across the battlefield.
A warrior attacked the mushroom by swinging his sword at its vulnerable flank. The warrior's sword blade failed to reach its target before the moment passed.
A sharp whistle cut through the air.
The instant the sound reached their ears the muscular mushroom disappeared.
A new mushroom emerged in its stead. This massive creature wore spiked armor across its entire body. The mushroom attacked directly with its tough body tissue which easily absorbed the blade as if it were a harmless touch.
The warrior stared at the scene with complete disbelief.
A spiked fist delivered a powerful blow to his ribs.
His body launched backward from the massive impact. His body made an unnatural movement before hitting the ground. The battlefield heard the horrifying sound of bones breaking into pieces.
He didpn't get back up.
"They're swapping positions!" someone yelled in horror.
The sudden revelation struck them with full force.
The mushrooms displayed more than sheer random fighting behavior.
They were coordinating.
The military units moved with exact accuracy as they modified their tactical arrangements and simultaneously replaced damaged operatives.
It wasn't just an army.
It was a hive mind.
A war machine running with terrifying efficiency.
And then.
The trumpet blared again.
BWAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!
A deep, ear-splitting sound vibrated through the battlefield, shaking the very ground beneath them. Warriors dropped to their knees, clutching their heads in agony. Some screamed as their ears bled from the sheer force of the sound.
And as the echoes faded.
The mushrooms stopped moving.
For a moment, the battlefield fell into complete silence.
The battlefield was drenched in chaos. Explosions echoed across the prairie as humans and mushrooms clashed in an all-out war. Blood, spores, and ash filled the air, each side desperately trying to overpower the other. But as the skirmish intensified, something sinister was happening in the background.
A sneezing mushroom, its bulbous body twitching with tension, repositioned itself, using its many legs to stabilize its aim. The creature inhaled deeply, its tiny nostrils flaring. BOOM! A violent sneeze erupted from its mouth, launching a mushroom-like projectile high into the sky. The projectile arced downward, a ticking time bomb ready to explode on impact.
It wasn't alone. Several other mushrooms of its kind were doing the same, their legs shifting to find proper footing as they prepared to unleash a devastating artillery barrage. The humans on the battlefield quickly realized what was about to happen.
"Scatter! Protect yourselves from the spores!" a warrior shouted, his voice barely audible over the rising tension.
Panic spread through the human ranks. Shields were raised, barriers conjured, and some tried to run for cover, but it was too late.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The mushroom bombardment rained down like hellfire, exploding upon impact and sending shockwaves through the land. Screams filled the air as humans were flung like ragdolls, their bodies torn apart by the sheer force. Those who survived were left coughing, struggling to see through the thick cloud of dust and spores.
The battlefield trembled under the weight of chaos. The air was thick with tension, filled with the scent of burnt flesh, crushed mushrooms, and the lingering remnants of spores that had yet to settle. Screams of both humans and mushrooms blended together, creating a dreadful symphony of war.
Among the many creatures present, one stood out a sneezing mushroom. Its many legs twitched as it repositioned itself, preparing for another attack. The previous barrage had not been enough. No, this time, it had to be more devastating. It inhaled deeply, its round body expanding like a balloon, the pressure inside building to dangerous levels. The moment came.
ACHOO!
A thick, dark green projectile blasted out of its barrel-like mouth, spinning violently through the air. It whistled as it traveled, leaving a spiraling trail of spores in its wake. The impact was instantaneous. The ground erupted, dirt and body parts scattering in every direction.
But this was only the beginning.
Other mushrooms of its kind responded, their legs skittering across the ground as they aligned themselves into position. One by one, they followed, each preparing to fire its own deadly payload. The sight of it sent chills down the spines of the remaining human warriors.
"GET TO COVER!" someone shouted.
Panic spread like wildfire. The battlefield transformed into chaos when humans rushed to escape the impending danger. Soldiers lifted their shields while creating barriers as they rushed to hide behind available debris. The commander issued his command for everyone to distribute across the battlefield while shielding themselves from the approaching spores.
Despite receiving the warning the fatalities had already occurred.
The explosions thundered through the air in a deafening sequence. The mushroom artillery launched its destructive force which sent fire and debris soaring into the air. The human defenders who reacted quickly survived but others perished in the attack. The explosions ripped through bodies causing their limbs to separate while sending human bodies soaring through the air like lifeless dolls. The massive destruction spread blood and ash across the entire prairie.
The flying vessel remained unharmed by the battlefield destruction as it floated securely above the battlefield.
The ship maintained its stationary position as its dark shape became visible against the burning sky. The vessel stood motionless as it observed the battle taking place beneath it. The occupants within this vessel remained actively engaged rather than idle.
The guild's most influential members chose this location as their base of operations.
The figures inside the stronghold remained expressionless while they watched the destruction that took place below. The warriors had witnessed numerous battles but they recognized this conflict as something unique.
A battle-worn man with a sharp gaze approached from the group. The dim lighting reflected off his armor while his massive sword remained at his side. His commanding presence added the power of authority to his person.
"Is the target ready?"
His tone remained steady but he displayed both impatience and eagerness in his voice.
Yubal stood at level sixty-nine as a sword general of rank A. His gaze shifted to another person who stood by for a response.
