Chapter 511: Phantom's Secret
Clink! Clink! Clink! Clink!
In the arena, Erik and Boris had been exchanging blows since the start of their battle roughly two minutes ago. Even though Erik had been summoning afterimages, which gave him more chances to attack, it was Boris who had been harassing him.
Every time Erik created an afterimage, Boris immediately dashed to it and obliterated it immediately. Even without using any techniques, his raw strength was more than enough to fight the afterimages. He was surprisingly fast for his build, which was what he was known for.
Because of that, Erik kept exhausting his stamina for repeatedly creating afterimages. However, despite his efforts, Boris did not seem to lose any energy at all.
"Are you going to keep sending me these small fries? Fight me, Phantom Fencer."
Boris called Erik out with a lot of enthusiasm as if he was just warming up. Erik then complied with his words immediately.
"Impaler."
Coming towards Boris as fast as the speed of sound, Erik thrust his rapier that was powered by a technique. Boris did not seem to show any reaction at first, but then Erik's eyes widened when Boris suddenly turned his gaze at him.
Clink!
In an instant, Boris's still body moved to block Erik's rapier with his axe. Not only was he fast and reflexive, but Boris had actually perfected the Automatic Defense that he was aware of the incoming attack without relying on the technique's native response.
Shortly after, Boris swung his other axe, but Erik was able to step back quickly and avoided getting sliced. As he moved backward, Boris continued to chase him and forced Erik to do Instantaneous Movement in order to move to a safe distance.
Erik was seriously fighting him with his current persona's limitations, but it was not enough to have a decent fight with Boris. Along with his sheer strength, Boris's movements were refined, and his long battle experience was another thing to be cautious of.
"Alright, it's time to get serious."
"Ho?"

If Erik was not able to compete with him with his current strength, he might be able to lift up some restrictions from his body. Even though everyone knew him for being a pure swordsman, Erik did not intend to hide his affinity for magic. That's why Erik activated the Attribute Armor first before proceeding to the next step.
"Lightning Blade."
After lightning started slithering his whole body, Erik cast the Level 7 Lightning Magic spell and then his rapier began emitting sparks until lightning streaks eventually engulfed his whole blade. At that moment, Erik had turned into a magic swordsman, which shocked the audience and the other fighters as well as Boris.
"I see. So you are secretly a magic swordsman, huh? You have been hiding this the whole time?"
"You are so that I am resorted to do so."
"I take that you are appreciating me. But unfortunately, your efforts are going to waste."
Ignoring his words, Erik wasted no time and rushed immediately to his opponent at a speed of several Machs. Boris was not able to react with that speed. However, Boris had prepared his Automatic Defense beforehand, and his arms reflexively raised to block the stab with his axe.
Stabbing him was one of Erik's intentions, but even if it failed, he would not damage Boris, anyway, or he thought so.
Zap!
Upon touching the metallic axe, the electricity from the blade scattered throughout Boris's body, and visible lightning streaks could be seen around his body. However, Boris seemed to be fine, and he even flashed a smirk.
"Kuku, how funny. You see, I forgot to tell you that magic doesn't affect me."
Aside from his strength, Boris's defenses and resistances were remarkably high, and he apparently even had the Magic Attack Nullification. That was the reason why Harry the Myriad Battlemage was afraid of facing him.
"It doesn't matter to me; I will beat you today."
Despite having the disadvantages, Erik was not bothered at all. After that, Erik vanished, and lightning streaks began to surround Boris. Erik had been creating afterimages, which left those sparks in the process. Cloaked with the lightning, Erik's speed increased tremendously.
"Piercing Barrage."
Soon after, three Eriks reappeared around Boris and bombarded him with countless ultra-fast stabs.
"Hmph!"
Clink! Clink! Clink!
In response, Boris stretched out his arms, spun his body, and swung his axes horizontally, intercepting each of Erik's attacks. With his strength, his axes even reached the illusions. Boris was sure that Erik's body was one of them, but he genuinely felt he hit nothing. That really baffled him, but then he eventually learned what actually happened.
"I see," Boris said as soon as he stopped his spin. "I realized why everyone can't hit your true body. It is because you send either that part I hit or my part that touched you to a different place. Your body is actually like a living portal."
"..."
Erik went speechless when Boris abruptly told him how he made his body untouchable. Despite the absurdity of his claim, Boris's words were actually true.
In order to live the name of the Phantom Fencer, Erik had the idea of making it as ghostly as possible. For that reason, he had been thinking about how to make it possible, and he found inspiration from a villain of one of his favorite anime.
Azrael, alongside Raphael, did some experiments to achieve that. After relentless trials and errors, they finally came up with two perfect solutions.
The first one was to precisely conjure a Portal perfectly on the contacted part of the body to transport the attacker's body part, weapon, and attacks. However, it was very prone to being exposed since the Resurrection Bracelets had tracking properties.
That was why Raphael and Azrael chose the hard way.
Firstly, they used one of their own parallel consciousnesses to activate another Omnidirectional Perception and marked their whole body to an atomic scale.
Following this, they registered each of their cells and atoms of their clothes and weapons and created a command using the Akashvani to transfer the selected atoms to a different location whenever someone or something made contact with it. Basically triggering the Warp to each of the contacted atoms every time they got hit.
That was a huge success, and Raphael was greatly delighted. However, it was an extremely painful process as their flesh was literally being ripped from them and then passively used Infinite Regeneration to heal.
After that, Raphael and Azrael had been trying to master it by doing mock battles. And after days of practice, Raphael created a new original Spacetime Magic spell called Partial Body Migration, which was a Level 10 spell.
The Partial Body Migration spell allowed the caster to control their ghostly status at will. Moreover, the pain had gone so they could spam it repeatedly as long as there was mana to burn.
Raphael then sent the data of the spell to Azrael, and that was why no one seemed to touch and inflict damage on Erik in the tournament.
"Fufufu. I never thought someone would discover my secret so soon." After a grin, Erik chuckled. "But well, since it comes to this, I perhaps should go all out."
"Kuku, this is what I have been waiting for. Entertain me."
