Reincarnated as Just a Human?!

Chapter 24: Towards the Truth [1]

On the first night, everyone had fallen asleep—except Leon who was on guard, keeping watch for any Corrupted Entities. He had already defeated a bunch of them while the other three slept. The night was clear; the sky had no clouds, only two moons glowing above. One was green and the other blue.

Leon looked up and muttered, "People say that if you see a clear night sky with no clouds and the green and blue moons—which are usually red and blue—then it means you're going to succeed at something."

As he stared at the sky, he was suddenly startled by a vibration from his point tracker device. He quickly checked it and saw some photos had been sent by someone.

Is this my success?

"I already knew something was off… but this is worse than I thought," he said, his expression turning cold.

He then walked over to the red-haired guy and nudged him. "Your turn to keep watch. Wake up, I'm going to sleep now."

Leon laid down in the red-haired guy's spot, closed his eyes and the red-haired guy got up to take over guarding.

The next morning, the red-haired guy was catching fish. The glasses guy was collecting sticks for the fire. And the golden-haired guy was cutting mushrooms he found deeper in the forest. Leon slowly woke up, feeling sore all over.

"If they can give us salt then why not a sleeping bag?" he muttered.

The golden-haired guy sighed. "That's because kids these days can't survive without salt in their food. And you're sore just from sleeping on a sheet? Back in our time, during missions we used to sleep on trees and bare ground, surrounded by entities. We even ate raw flesh to survive."

"Your time?" Leon asked, raising an eyebrow. "I thought you three were first-year students like everyone else."

The moment Leon said that, the golden-haired guy froze and realized what he had just slipped out. He covered his mouth and started sweating. The glasses guy gave him a sharp look. Trying to cover it up, the golden-haired guy stammered, "W-What I meant by 'our time' is… is the Trial! Yeah, the Trial. We failed the one last year and we're trying to pass this year."

"Hm... But the Trials were a long-forgotten tradition, only revived this year," Leon replied coldly, his tone suddenly darker.

Panic started to show on the golden-haired guy's face. The red-haired guy clenched his fists because he already understood that Leon had figured them out.

"What are you talking about?" the golden-haired guy said, trying to act innocent.

"Don't play innocent, Carl. A hunter who went missing after assaulting and murdering his female comrade. You disappeared five years ago. Your current age is 39," Leon said with a cold stare.

All of them widened their eyes in shock. How the hell did he know that?

Leon then turned to the red-haired guy. "Another missing hunter. Vanished eight years ago after stealing one of the legendary swords. Current age: 47."

The red-haired guy's fists trembled, his teeth grinding with frustration.

Finally, Leon looked at the glasses guy. "And the smartass—Reginald. Former EHO hunter and staff member of EHHS. Went missing four years ago... after assaulting several of his own students, current age: 78, but because of taking life force of young hunters. You are looking around 36."

Reginald said coldly, "What are you trying to do by telling us our secrets? You're our comrade, remember?"

"Oh? Is that so?" Leon replied. "Let me tell you something—I was never your comrade."

"What? Are you stupid? Did you forget Master chose you to work with us?" Reginald snapped.

Leon smirked. "Sorry but the one your master chose wasn't me."

He snapped his fingers and with a soft flash, a dead body appeared in his hand. It was a man in his 40s with short black hair.

"This was the guy chosen to be with you. His name was Augustin. Another murderer like you, Carl."

The moment Leon snapped, the world around them shifted. The fake reality shattered and they finally realized that Leon wasn't the chosen one.

They staggered, confused, looking around in disbelief.

"Who the hell are you?! Why are you here in our squad?! How you find out our identity?!" they demanded, pointing at Leon.

Leon smiled calmly. "Im Leon, the one who will stole your everything. Now let me explain my theory of how i suspected you and why I'm here instead this Augustin guy".

"In the first Trial, my squad didn't run into any other team in the labyrinth… except for Ren. That's when I realized something: the Trials we were sent to were all different. Each labyrinth only had two squads. That's why we only met Ren from Squad 4—our labyrinth was shared with theirs."

He paused, his eyes scanning them.

"But according to the rules, all squads were supposed to be in a single labyrinth. So why split them up? Simple, it made kidnapping easier. Each labyrinth had one weak and one strong squad. The strong ones were your real targets."

Leon's expression turned sharper.

"But in our case, you miscalculated. You thought we were the weak ones and Squad 4 was strong. That's why no one got kidnapped—because if you attacked that weak squad so we would have supported them."

Carl forced a nervous smirk. "That's a stupid reason. If we wanted to, we could've just put each squad in separate labyrinths."

Leon nodded. "Not you but your master. He didn't split squads like that because it would make things obvious. If a squad realized they were completely alone and they'd press the give-up button. Too risky."

He took a step forward, still smiling.

"So he played a psychological game. Two squads per labyrinth. That way, there'd always be a chance of running into someone else. It lowers suspicion. And even if someone like me noticed, it would just sound like a crazy theory—an unpopular opinion no one would believe."

"In the second Trial, my theory was confirmed," Leon said calmly. "I saw you and your squad targeting specific students—immobilizing them. Then I somehow trapped Augustin, after that i used my ability to manipulate the school's database and your memories. I rewrote database to say I was a member of your squad in Trails. And I altered the memories of everyone who knew the truth… except Hiroshi, Kami, Dr. Smith, and Ren. They still remember I'm from Squad 12."

"So that's how you ended up in our squad," Reginald muttered, narrowing his eyes. "Then did you kill Augustin after altering everyone's memory?"

Leon shrugged. "Me? Nah. I trapped him in an illusion. But he tried to force his way out of it… ended up taking his own life in the process."

"We don't care," the red-haired man growled. "You have no proof. And besides, the whole school hates you."

Leon smirked and held up his point tracker. "See this."

He swiped, revealing several photos.

All three men froze. Reginald's eyes widened. "Y-you—KILL THIS GUY!!"

They all drew their weapons and charged.

Reginald's sword came down fast—aimed straight for Leon's heart.

But just before it could land, a hand appeared and striked the blade in mid-air. The sword shattered on contact.

In the same motion, the hand grabbed Reginald and hurled him into Carl with bone-cracking force.

"You've got perfect timing, Kimono Guy," Leon said with a smirk.

The red-haired guy's eyes widened in pure horror. His voice trembled, "A-A-A… Com—COMMANDER AKASH!!"

The three tried to flee across the river in panic but before they could even blink, Akash vanished.

Then—Boom—he reappeared in front of them.

With a single kick, he sent Reginald flying then grabbed his head mid-air and smashed it into Carl, knocking both out cold.

Red-haired guy turned to run but Akash's boot met his face, sending him crashing into the dirt, unconscious.

Leon walked up beside Akash.

"Now," he said with a cold grin, "we will tell whole school...The truth."
