Chapter 7: Chapter : 7 : Homecoming

Aisha sat in the nurse's office, humming a soft melody as she sorted through some paperwork. Her face glowed, her cheeks slightly flushed, and there was an undeniable sense of warmth in her expression.

A younger nurse walked In and stopped in her tracks, noticing the unusual happiness radiating from Aisha. "Shizuki-san," she teased with a playful smirk, "you've been glowing lately. Did something happen? Got yourself a boyfriend, perhaps?"

Aisha looked up, startled by the question. "H-huh?" she stammered, her voice pitching higher than usual.

The younger nurse's eyes widened. "Wait… seriously? Don't tell me it's true! Is he handsome?"

Aisha averted her gaze, fiddling nervously with the papers in front of her. "W-well… I think he's amazing," she admitted softly, a shy smile tugging at her lips.

"Ah, so cute!" the younger nurse exclaimed, grinning.

Aisha hesitated before asking, "Do you think… liking someone younger than you is strange?" Her voice was tentative, her eyes pleading for reassurance.

The younger nurse blinked, slightly surprised by the question. After a moment, she shrugged and smiled. "I've always been into older guys myself, but love doesn't follow rules, Shizuki-san. If you care about him, that's what matters."

Aisha nodded, a small but genuine smile blooming on her face.

Changing the topic, the younger nurse said, "By the way, isn't your patient leaving tonight? The boy you've been looking after—it's been a week, right?"

"Y-yeah," Aisha replied, her voice tinged with sadness. "I know."

In the hospital room, I sat on the edge of the bed, eating my lunch. Aisha sat beside me, her chin resting on her palm as she watched me with a gentle expression.

I stole glances at her. I wanted to ask her something, but ai felt shy.

"Isn't the food good?" she asked after a moment, tilting her head slightly, her voice laced with playful curiosity.

"No, it's really good," I replied, smiling up at her.

"Then why do you keep glancing at me like that?" she teased, her cheeks faintly pink.

"Well…" I hesitated, gathering the courage to speak, my heart pounding in my chest. "I wanted to ask you something."

Her eyebrows lifted slightly, her interest piqued. "What is it?"

Reaching out, I gently took her hands in mine. She froze, her face burning at the sudden contact.

"Will you…" I paused, steadying my trembling voice. "Will you go on a date with me, Aisha?"

Her breath hitched, and my words shot like a arrow to her heart. She stared at me, overwhelmed by the word date. Her heart raced, and for a moment, she was too stunned to reply.

"I… I…" she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper.

He just asked me out. I need to reply. Ahh… I love him so much. She thought.

My grip on her hands tightened slightly, my eyes pleading with her for an answer. "Please, Aisha," I murmured, my voice soft but resolute.

A slow, shy smile spread across her lips. "Y-yeah," she finally said, her voice trembling with emotion. She placed her free hand over mine, her eyes brimming with affection.

Overcome with joy, I leaned forward and captured her lips in a kiss. Her eyes widened in surprise, but she quickly melted into it, her hands gripping mine tightly. The kiss was slow, deliberate, and full of all the love I felt for her.

As we broke apart, she was breathless, her cheeks flushed. "You have food in your mouth," she said shyly, looking away and touching her lips.

"Huh?" I exclaimed, blinking blankly, dots practically forming above my head like in a comic relief scene.

"Oh really?" I said, quickly grabbing my glass of water and drinking it all in one go.

Seeing my reaction, Aisha started laughing, her voice a beautiful melody that filled the room. I couldn't help but join in, our laughter blending together and lightening the air around us.

By 6:00 p.m., the time had come for me to leave the hospital. I sat in the waiting room beside Aisha, waiting for my uncle to return after speaking with the doctor.

"So," I said, breaking the silence, "we'll meet on our date next, right?"

"Well…" she began, fidgeting in her seat, her face turning red, "about that. I—"

Before she could finish, my uncle walked in.

We stood up as Aisha greeted him politely. He was an average-looking man in his mid-40s, with a bit of a beard and kind brown eyes. He had a son and an younger daughter, and his wife.

"Thank you for taking care of my nephew, Shizuki-san. I hope we'll see you again in the future," he said with a warm smile.

I frowned at his choice of words. Future?

Aisha nodded, her expression slightly unreadable.

As we left, I stole one last glance at Aisha. Our eyes met, and we exchanged a small, knowing smile before I followed my uncle out of the hospital.

The car ride was tense. My uncle and I sat in silence for several minutes until he finally spoke.

"That nurse of yours… she's a remarkable person, isn't she?"

"You don't have to tell me," I replied curtly, still staring out of the window.

"Well, you're in for a surprise tomorrow," he said, his tone almost teasing.

"What do you mean?" I asked, narrowing my eyes at him.

"You'll see," he said with a cryptic smile.

Annoyed, I decided to drop the subject and stared out of the window again. "Forget I asked," I muttered.

After a few moments of silence, his tone grew serious. "Ito… I know I haven't been the uncle you needed."

I turned to look at him, surprised by the sudden vulnerability in his voice.

"When your parents passed away, I promised I'd take care of you," he said, his voice thick with guilt. "But I failed. I let my work consume me, and I didn't know how to approach you. I thought… maybe if I stayed out of your way, you'd be happier."

"Damn you," I said sharply, my anger bubbling to the surface. "Do you even realize how alone I've felt? You never talked to me, never visited me. All you ever cared about was your work. Did you ever stop to think about what I needed?"

He winced at my words, his grip tightening on the steering wheel. "You're right," he admitted, his voice breaking. "I have no excuses. I'm sorry, Ito. Truly."

The sincerity In his voice made my anger waver, but I wasn't ready to forgive him just yet.

"Just take me to my apartment," I said coldly. "I don't want to go to your house. Enjoy your perfect little family without me."

He nodded silently, the guilt written all over his face.

As we reached my apartment, I stepped out of the car without looking back.

"Should I come with you? He asked, his voice filled with desperation.

"No need," I stated.

He sighed.

"Thanks for inviting me, I guess," I said over my shoulder.

"I'll always be here for you, Ito," he said softly.

The loneliness of my apartment hit me like a brick wall. The walls seemed to mock me, reminding me of how empty my life had been before Aisha. Her laughter, her smile, the way she cared for me—it all replayed in my mind, and the ache in my chest grew unbearable.

I collapsed onto my bed, exhausted, and drifted off to sleep.

When morning came, sunlight streamed through the window. But wait… I hadn't opened the curtains last night.

I blinked, startled by the sound of humming and the clatter of utensils.

I sat up and turned toward the kitchenette. Standing there, cooking breakfast, was Aisha.

She turned to me with a radiant smile. "Good morning, Ito-kun."

"What… what the hell is going on?" I asked, utterly baffled.
