Revenge is All I Want

Chapter 4: I won't let you fall.

Jamie's POV~

The Dreamer's Clubhouse hummed with quiet sophistication, but none of it mattered to me.

I scanned the room with a practiced disinterest, my cold eyes and the power of my family's name ensured no one dared come close to me without caution. If anyone becomes stupid, they often do not live to tell the tale.

Riley and Danny sat with me, they were the only friends I had in the entire S city. My grandmother often said those two were the only ones that could tolerate my cold attitude.

Once again, the soft chatter of the club fades into the background as my mind wanders to Ammie. The woman that consumed my waking hours. The one that makes me lose focus and concentration at the mention of her name.

Riley leaned in, his voice low and full of interest. "The Whites are in the news again," he began. That soft gossip mongering of his mouth that I wish to rip off more than anything today was at it.

" Another scandal?" Danny chimed in. These two should be grateful, I know them. I would have ripped out their tongues.

" Think they'll survive this one?" Danny asked further. With each word that comes out of their viled mouth, my mood sours.

My jaw tightened. Ammie's family had a way of attracting trouble, but she'd always stood apart from their chaos, she has always been something fierce and untouchable in my eyes.

Still, the thought of her being dragged through their mess made me angry. I'd warned her family at our last dinner that any harm to her wouldn't go unanswered, but it seemed they didn't take me seriously.

I was halfway through my drink when the air in the room shifted. A collective hush swept over the clubhouse, and I didn't need to look up to know why. I could smell her.

When I finally turned, there she was. A sight to behold in a red gown. It felt like a full punch to my gut.

She moved like she owned the room, talk of her striding gracefully like a peacock. Her golden eyes scanned the crowd.

Even from across the space, the pull and the yearning was undeniable, her presence commanding every ounce of my attention.

Beside me, Riley nudged my arm. "You're staring."

"Shut up," I snapped, embarrassed that I was caught gazing at her. Yet, I couldn't take my eyes off her.

Then, like fate's cruel joke, a man walks over to her. Weird. Everyone in S city knows she belongs to me.

I decided to be calm to observe the slick, overconfident bumbling fool, who clearly thought he stood a chance.

He leaned in too close for my comfort. My hands tightened into fists. His words are lost to me even as I tried straining my ear like an eagle would target its prey. But his intentions are painfully clear even without me hearing what he has to say.

My grip tightened on my glass. The urge to punch his stupid face against the glass door surged through me, but I forced myself to remain still. She was watching him with a polite smile, but her eyes flicked in my direction, a silent electrifying message passed between us.

She knew I was here.

The man, Jack Slev, if I wasn't mistaken, offered her a drink, and she accepted it with ease that got under my skin. I watched, every muscle in my body coiled tight, as he guided her toward the bar.

"Jamie," Danny's voice broke through my haze, "you're going to break that glass."

I glanced down to see my knuckles white against the tumbler. Releasing it, I stood abruptly. "Excuse me."

Riley smirked. "This should be good." This sick bastard sincerely needs to start minding his business.

Ammie's POV

The Clubhouse was everything that Emily said it would be. It spoke of prestige and opulence. Every chandelier, every polished marble floor screamed wealth, but beneath it all lay the same toxic politics and ego-driven elites. I had no time for it. Not tonight.

The moment I stepped inside, the room fell silent, a silent awareness spreading as every head turned my way. I ignored the stares, keeping my posture straight and my stride deliberate. I wasn't here for their approval. I was here for me.

But then I felt it, that piercing gaze, colder than steel yet burning against my skin. Jamie. His name makes my heart race, doing somersaults and all I wanted to do was remind my heart what Jamie did to her.

I had spotted him in the corner, his silver hair catching the dim light like a beacon. He was watching me, unblinking, his expression as unreadable as ever. Always so detached. I felt like sticking my tongue out to him but I held the urge in.

My chest tightened, as memories flooded my mind but I forced myself to look away. Whatever strings still tied me to him needed to be severed. Now, that brings me back to the engagement. How do I end it?

"Excuse me," a smooth casual voice interrupted my thoughts.

I turned to find a man, sharp-suited and confident, standing before me.

"Jack Slev," he said politely. His name rang a bell, something about a lucrative deal his company had secured recently had been on headlines, but his smirk rubbed me the wrong way.

"Can I buy you a drink?" he asked, his tone more assumption than request.

I hesitated, glancing toward Jamie's table. His jaw was tight, his eyes fixed on us like a predator sizing up its prey. The intensity sent a shiver down my spine.

"I'd be delighted," I replied to Jack, the words slipping out before I could stop them. If Jamie thought he could still rattle me, he was mistaken. I wanted to prove to myself that I was in control.

Jack led me to the bar, his chatter about business deals and connections blending into the noise. I nodded at all the right moments, but my focus remained sharp. Something about the air tonight felt… wrong.

As I reached for my drink, a shadow towered behind us.

" She is with me."

I didn't need to turn to recognize that voice. Low, commanding, and dangerous and raw flavoured chocolate as though I could taste it.

Jack visibly froze, his confident demeanor faltering. I turned slowly, meeting Jamie's smoldering Silver eyes.

"This isn't your concern," I said, my voice steady despite the tension crackling between us.

His lips curled into a faint smirk. "Everything about you is my concern."

The room seemed to hold its breath as Jamie stepped closer, his presence overwhelming. Jack opened his mouth to argue, but Jamie's gaze snapped to him, silencing him with a single, lethal look.

"Walk away," Jamie said, his tone soft but edged with steel.

Jack hesitated, glancing between us before muttering an excuse and disappearing into the crowd.

I glared at Jamie, my heart pounding. "You had no right…"

"I have every right," he cut me off, his voice low and dangerous. "You don't even realize what's happening around you, Ammie. But I do."

Before I could respond, he leaned in, his words a whisper against my ear. "You're not as safe as you think. And I won't let you fall, no matter what it costs me."
