Chapter 1: 1 Cave Escape Leads to Sudden Enlightenment, Tianyuan Baolian Appears in the Spring

"Am I really going to die here? No... I can't die here! Since heaven brought me into this world, how can I just die at the jaws of a wild boar?"

A boy dressed as a hunter frantically dodged and weaved through the purple woods, with a wild boar chasing him some twenty steps behind, growling angrily.

Luckily, the boar appeared to have injured one of its legs, making its speed slow and its turning ability poor, so it had not caught up to the boy. However, if this continued, the boy would eventually be overtaken due to exhaustion.

Perhaps it was fate that the boy would not meet his end so easily. While running in a panic, he stumbled and discovered a cave, barely half his height. The entrance was covered in weeds, clearly uninhabited by beasts, and he used all his strength to crawl inside.

The boar caught up but, unable to enter the narrow cave, could only roar at the entrance in frustration.

"At least I'm safe for now!" The boy sighed in relief. His name was Qi Tian, an adopted son of a hunter from the village at the foot of the mountain, living with his father.

He had another identity—he was from Earth, a transmigrator, or as they called it in this world, a "Heavenly Demon." He soon realized that the world he had entered resembled the one depicted in the book Gu Zhen Ren, where in a world that often involved cannibalism, strength was the only thing that mattered.

Since his childhood, he had displayed early intelligence, gaining his father's permission to start hunting with him at twelve, and had been doing so for three years. Not long ago, his father died in the line of duty, and Qi Tian had been hunting alone to support himself.

Unfortunately, a recent trap was broken by a wild boar, and in the attempt to protect himself, his father had perished, and Qi Tian nearly died too.

"It seems that in this world, unless one becomes a Gu Master, you're just an insignificant ant, unable to even protect your loved ones. Over the past three years, I've gained much survival experience and become more agile, but I still don't have the strength to protect myself."

The reason he had followed his father hunting was to build up his self-defense capabilities. Despite his age and lack of strength, his agility and creativity in setting traps had helped him survive.

"It looks like I need to become a Gu Master soon. I'm already fifteen, and children from the village could start cultivating. But I was born in a remote village, and I never had the opportunity."

"Bang, bang, bang..." The boar's impact against the entrance snapped Qi Tian out of his thoughts. He squatted down and began to move deeper into the cave. After walking about a hundred steps, he reached a dead end and rested against a stone wall, only to find the wall moving.

He realized he had triggered a mechanism, and perhaps there was a Gu Master's inheritance hidden inside. His heart raced as he stepped forward.

Inside, the space suddenly opened up, and Qi Tian was immediately exhilarated. It was a primordial spring! The area surrounding the spring was filled with flowers, and light flickered among them… It was the Hope Gu!

He rushed toward the spring, but soon felt an invisible resistance. He pushed against it, and with each step, a Hope Gu would fly out and enter his body, forming a growing light sphere.

"Forty-one, forty-two... forty-six..." Qi Tian silently counted in his mind. At the forty-fifth step, he heard a loud "bang" as the light within his abdomen reached its limit, and suddenly exploded.

A thin layer of sweat covered his body.

Returning to his senses, Qi Tian focused inward and discovered a hidden aperture between his kidneys, below his navel. He had successfully opened a窍!

"Below ten steps, there is no cultivation talent. Ten to twenty steps is grade D talent, twenty to thirty is grade C, thirty to forty is grade B, and forty to fifty is grade A. I… have grade A talent."

"Seems like my luck isn't bad, opening a grade A aperture as an ordinary mortal."

The aperture was spherical, surrounded by a glowing white membrane, which was formed by the explosion of the Hope Gu. Inside the aperture was a primordial sea.

The water in the sea was smooth and mirror-like, shimmering with a coppery sheen.

With his grade A talent, Qi Tian officially entered the ranks of a First-Turn Gu Master.

His mood lifted, and he began to examine the spring. He saw a crystal wall, beyond which was water, swirling with gray-white currents resembling miniature tornadoes, constantly spinning and rising.

Then he saw something within the spring—an item.

A blue-and-white flower bud gently floated in the water.

"This… is the Tianyuan Baolian!" Qi Tian was stunned!

He looked closer and noticed the flower had only eight and a half petals, with one leaf broken. It was missing the full nine petals, which was similar to what he had seen in Gu Zhen Ren. Qi Tian could recognize it due to his prior knowledge.

"Could it be that an elder had the Tianyuan Baolian's Gu formula and was refining it here, but an accident prevented its completion?"

"The Tianyuan Baolian must have nine petals to be picked. Now it only has eight and a half. To harvest it, I need to throw Yuan Stones into the spring."

"According to Fang Yuan's experience from the book, this half-leaf might require over fifty thousand Yuan Stones. How can I possibly gather that much?"

Suddenly, Qi Tian noticed a mountain of Yuan Stones beside the spring, totaling a million!

Though the Tianyuan Baolian had absorbed most of the spring's essence, the spring still produced Yuan Stones, which, as a result, depleted its energy. The Tianyuan Baolian would reverse this process, replenishing the spring's losses and thus left with a broken leaf.

Not dwelling on the matter, Qi Tian threw Yuan Stones into the crystal wall, which disappeared as if the wall no longer existed. The stones sank into the spring and hit the Tianyuan Baolian's illusion.

The blue-and-white flower bud swayed, and the Yuan Stones were quickly absorbed by the Baolian.

After throwing in several Yuan Stones, the Baolian became more defined, until at fifty thousand, the ninth petal was fully formed.

"It's a pity I'm only a First-Turn Gu Master and can't refine this Tianyuan Baolian."

Just then, the fully formed flower floated toward the crystal wall. Qi Tian, puzzled, grabbed one end of the flower and poured his True Yuan into it, trying to refine it. To his surprise, the flower didn't resist and was immediately refined.

Just as Qi Tian was about to comment on how unbelievable this was, a sudden voice echoed in the cave.

"I am a Gu Master, fond of refining Gu. I found the Tianyuan Gu formula and this natural primordial spring, hoping to refine it. Unfortunately, the original occupant, a mountain rat, returned and I killed it, but was gravely wounded. The Tianyuan Baolian was left incomplete, and my heart is filled with regret."

"To the one who comes after, if you can complete the Tianyuan Baolian, know that we are fated, and you may inherit my legacy. My remaining will will assist you in refining the Tianyuan Baolian. Take care."

After repeating this message three times, the light wall shattered, revealing a human corpse and a rat corpse. The human's arms held a cultivation and Gu refining manual.

"It seems this is the legacy of a Fourth-Turn Gu Master, a refined Gu Master with a substantial wealth. I wonder what Gu Insects he left behind in the buried Di Zang Hua Gu."

Legacy is different from a power inheritance.

A legacy refers to what a Gu Master leaves behind after their death. The inheritor can take everything from the corpse. Power inheritance, on the other hand, involves tests that must be passed to gain the full legacy.
