Chapter 11: 11 Leaving the Merchant Caravan and Exploring the Swamp, Dangers Everywhere in the Cloudy Swamp

Cloudy Swamp

This swamp is shrouded in clouds all year round, and the sun is never seen.

There are many poisonous creatures and wild beasts living in the swamp, and wild gu (poisonous insects) thrive in the clouds.

However, danger always accompanies opportunity.

It is rumored that deep in the Cloudy Swamp lies a shocking poisonous inheritance, and those who obtain it can rule the world, attracting countless poison masters to enter.

Over the years, countless gu masters have fallen here, but many still venture into the swamp, hoping not only to find the rumored poison inheritance but also the legacies of those who perished here.

At this point, Qi Tian has already left the merchant caravan. After staying with them for a year, his gu insects were well-equipped, and his main gu was replaced with a "Same Breath, Same Root" gu. With the help of a Seven Fragrance Wine Worm, he broke through to the peak of the third transition, and staying with the caravan no longer held much meaning for him.

Despite Jia Fu, the caravan leader, repeatedly trying to retain him, Qi Tian was given an identity token.

With strength comparable to a fourth-transition cultivator, Qi Tian could protect himself even in the southern mountains alone.

The caravan, after trading for a year, was about to return to the Jia family's land, but Qi Tian had no intention of going there. Although the Jia family was wealthy, it was just a large family. Even if Qi Tian joined, he wouldn't gain enough to make him stay. Now was not the time for him to be involved in the family's internal struggles, and there was little to gain.

Moreover, Qi Tian practiced the Qi Dao, an ancient cultivation path that had long since declined. Nowadays, Qi Dao insects were rare.

The Qi Dao insects on the market were scarce and expensive, mostly auxiliary types, which were far from enough for a cultivator focused on Qi Dao.

Though the Power Dao had declined, some power insects were still fairly common, especially low-level ones. Therefore, while there were few standout Power Dao masters, they were still relatively common among lower-level cultivators, especially among demon cultivators.

Qi Dao masters, however, were extremely rare. Why? One reason was the scarcity of Qi Dao insects, making it difficult to form a complete set. Another reason was the lack of inheritance. Just having a few Qi Dao insects did not make one a Qi Dao master. Otherwise, Black Loulan wouldn't have struggled to find a Qi Dao master when attacking the True Yang Tower.

As for Mo Shi Kuang's ability to become a Qi Dao master, it was because the Mo people's city excelled at Qi Dao.

In his past life, Qi Tian was a Qi Dao semi-master and had inherited the Qi family's ancestral teachings. Now, what he lacked was simply Qi Dao resources.

Qi Dao resources were rare, but they were much easier to obtain compared to inheritance.

As a reborn person, Qi Tian knew of several places with Qi Dao inheritances. The resources he gained from these inheritances would be enough to meet his early needs.

Moreover, after inheriting the Qi family's blessed land, although the land lacked Qi Dao resources, collecting them wouldn't be difficult at his level as a Gu Immortal.

He could also trade with the Mo people's king. If the benefits were enough, establishing a connection with Mo people's city would be feasible.

Qi Tian had been to the Cloudy Swamp in his past life, and he understood it deeply.

This swamp had been formed hundreds of years ago by a poisonous Gu Immortal's self-explosion, and it nurtured countless poisonous beasts. Deep in the swamp, there were even poisonous wild beasts.

In the past, Southern Border Gu Immortals had explored here but were attacked by the poisonous wild beasts, ultimately returning empty-handed. The place had since been marked as a forbidden area.

However, driven by greed, many demon path Gu masters still took the risk to enter.

Although it was dangerous, Qi Tian, with his knowledge of the area from his past life, could avoid the most perilous areas. As long as he didn't provoke the wild beasts in the center of the swamp, he could protect himself. Of course, since Qi Tian was only a mortal Gu master, he wouldn't attract the wild beasts' attention. Gu Immortals, on the other hand, would stir the beasts' suspicion and aggression, as the wild beasts considered mortals nothing more than ants.

Nonetheless, Qi Tian remained cautious, for even second and third transition poisonous beasts, when numerous, could threaten him.

After entering the Cloudy Swamp, Qi Tian used his Eagle Wing Gu to fly low through the swamp.

The swamp was full of danger. If traveling on foot, one would always have to guard against poisonous beasts lurking in the mud.

Flying higher would expose him to wild gu in the clouds, which would actively attack anyone who entered their domain.

Flying above the swamp, Qi Tian noticed stone pillars and wooden planks scattered around, clearly left behind by previous adventurers.

During his flight, Qi Tian would periodically land to recover his true essence and keep his peak condition, always prepared for danger.

These remnants of previous adventurers were relatively safe.

Before landing, Qi Tian would also inspect the area. Some wooden planks had been corroded into rotten wood and weren't suitable for landing.

Nearby, there were the remains of a Gu master's corpse, clearly someone who had died in the swamp.

In the swamp, there were black giant serpents swimming in the mud.

Massive black spiders were found on the poison trees, their webs spread wide.

In the areas covered by black mist, one could occasionally hear the eerie howls of wild beasts.

"Croak..."

A thunderous frog croak came from the distance.

"Huh... That's the Poison Swallowing Frog."

The Poison Swallowing Frog was a fourth-transition beast, small in size, and it fed on toxins. If a Gu master was poisoned, the frog could help by absorbing the toxins and acting as a cure.

Although Qi Tian had a healing Gu, he wasn't skilled in detoxification. Excellent detoxification Gu were rare. If he could get this Poison Swallowing Frog, it would fill a gap in his abilities and be invaluable for his journey through the swamp.

Though the Poison Swallowing Frog was a fourth-transition beast, its movement speed was slow. Qi Tian, with his Eagle Wing Gu, could easily attack it from a distance, weakening its will until it was ready to be refined.

After locating the small Poison Swallowing Frog with his Mist Sparrow Gu, Qi Tian used his remote control of blade energy to strike.

The frog moved slowly, and after receiving multiple attacks from Qi Tian's long-range strikes, it was wounded and near death.

Successfully refining the nearly-dead Poison Swallowing Frog, Qi Tian's task wasn't yet complete.

Since the frog had been heavily injured, it required treatment. Fortunately, treating the frog wasn't difficult—only toxins were needed, and the Cloudy Swamp was full of toxins.

After the Poison Swallowing Frog fully recovered, Qi Tian also replenished his own true essence used in the battle.

With his Eagle Wing Gu, Qi Tian resumed his journey, bypassing the most dangerous areas based on his past life's memories. Of course, these memories weren't completely accurate, as they were from several years later, and some differences could occur. Fortunately, with his superior flying skills, Qi Tian was able to avoid danger.

Among Gu Immortals, nine out of ten were masters of flight. Gu Immortals cherished their lives greatly and thus put much effort into their mobility. Being able to fly was a necessary skill, and Qi Tian was no exception.

After half a day's travel, Qi Tian arrived at a place inhabited by Black Water Poison Frogs, with thousands of them.

The largest of the frogs stood over a yard tall, its body a deep green, covered in scales. Its head was as large as a millstone and resembled a fish in shape.

It radiated a strong, violent aura, with a terrifying gaping mouth.

In Qi Tian's path, there was a large amount of green mist swirling. The stench was so strong that even from a distance, it was enough to make one feel nauseous.

"Passing through here will bring me closer to my destination. The Black Water Poison Frogs here are numerous, including Beast Kings among them. However, there is no way to avoid this area. Another route leads through the Flying Fish Swamp, which is just as dangerous. With the Poison Swallowing Frog, I can handle toxins, so this route seems more suitable."

The Flying Fish Swamp is home to many Swift Fish, which can fly in low altitudes and move at high speeds. Their sharp mouths would hinder Qi Tian's flying advantage. The Black Water Swamp, on the other hand, mainly posed a threat with toxins, and the Poison Swallowing Frog could counteract that. Therefore, Qi Tian chose this route.
