Rise of an Immortal

Chapter 11: The Aftermath

The world blurred around Anna as Ethan's speed carried them through the night. One moment, they were in the chaotic, bloodied subway station; the next, they stood in the serene quiet of a park.

The transition was jarring, but the calmness of the park helped ease the tension in Anna's chest.

The night air was cool and crisp, carrying the faint scent of grass and blooming flowers. The distant hum of the city provided a quiet backdrop to the empty park, illuminated only by scattered streetlights.

Ethan set Anna down gently, his hands lingering on her waist for a moment before he stepped back.

They sat on a nearby bench, the silence between them heavy but not uncomfortable. Anna stared at the ground, her mind racing with everything that had just happened.

The violence, the blood, the way Ethan had moved with such terrifying precision—it was a lot to process. But despite it all, she couldn't deny the relief she felt being with him now, safe and unharmed.

Ethan broke the silence first, "So, do you think I'd make a good magician? You know, with the whole disappearing act back there."

Anna looked up at him with her lips twitching despite herself. "You're not funny," she said.

"Oh, come on," Ethan said, grinning. "That was at least a little funny. Admit it."

She shook her head.

"Wanna hear a joke?"

Anna blinked, caught off guard. "…Seriously?"

"I mean, we just had a dramatic runaway scene, followed by some murder and mayhem. Gotta lighten the mood, right?"

She exhaled through her nose, shaking her head. "Ethan…"

But his smile remained.

She knew exactly what he was doing—trying to bring her out of the dark thoughts swirling in her mind.

And somehow, it worked.

She sighed, allowing a small smile to creep onto her lips. "Fine. Go ahead."

He leaned forward, his voice hushed like he was sharing a secret.

"Why don't skeletons fight each other?"

She raised a brow. "Why?"

Ethan smirked.

"Because they don't have the balls."

Anna stared at him.

For a moment, there was complete silence.

Then—She snorted.

Not a giggle, not a chuckle—a full-on snort.

Her eyes widened in embarrassment as Ethan's grin stretched wider. "Was that a snort?"

Anna covered her face. "Oh my God."

"Ladies and gentlemen, Anna Marie, the great Southern Belle, is a snorter!"

She hit his arm, laughing despite herself. "Shut up!"

Ethan just laughed along with her, shaking his head. "See? I knew I'd get you to smile."

Her laughter softened into a fond expression. She gazed at him for a long moment before speaking again, "I believe you, Ethan."

His grin faded slightly, turning into something softer. "Yeah?"

She nodded. "I… I like you. A lot. More than I realized. But…" Her expression turned pained. "I don't like seeing you kill people. It scares me."

Ethan exhaled. He expected that.

Anna wasn't like him. She still saw the world in shades of right and wrong.

"I know," he said. "But sometimes, there's no other choice and I won't let anyone hurt you. Not ever. You're too important to me."

She swallowed. "I just… don't want you to turn into someone who enjoys it."

Ethan's expression remained unreadable. Then, slowly, he reached out—gently brushing his fingers against her cheek. "I won't," he promised.

Anna closed her eyes, leaning into his touch. She wanted to believe him.

After a moment, she let out a breath and wrapped her arms around him, hugging him tightly.

He smiled, pressing his face against her hair.

They sat like that for a while, the world around them fading away. The park was quiet, the only sounds the rustling of leaves and the distant hum of the city. Eventually, Ethan pulled back slightly, his eyes searching hers.

Then—Ethan leaned back slightly, tilting his head.

"So… what do we do now?"

Anna blinked at him.

"Do we go back to Xavier's school? Or do we run away together like a dramatic couple in a romance novel?"

She thought of her friends at the school—Jean, Scott, Kurt, and the others. They were like family to her, and the idea of leaving them behind felt wrong. But at the same time, the thought of running away with Ethan, of starting fresh somewhere new, was tempting.

Anna huffed before shaking her head with a small smile. "As tempting as that sounds, I wanna go back."

He raised an eyebrow. "You sure?"

She nodded firmly. "I don't want to leave my friends."

Ethan smirked. "Fair enough." and his smile widened, and before Anna could say anything else, he leaned in and kissed her.

It was soft at first, a gentle press of his lips against hers. But then it deepened, their breaths mingling as their tongues met and started fighting for dominance.

Anna's hands found their way to his shoulders, her fingers tangling in the fabric of his jacket. Ethan's hands wandered—his fingers trailing over her waist, sliding down to her hips.

Then—his hand moved to her ass.

But he didn't stop there and his hands roamed all over her body, tracing the curve of her waist, the swell of her hips, the softness of her breasts and the firmness of her ass.

Anna's heart raced, her body responding to his touch in ways she hadn't expected. But as much as she wanted to lose herself in the moment, a small voice in the back of her mind reminded her of where they were.

She broke the kiss with a thin line of saliva connecting their lips as she pulled away.

"Ethan," she said breathlessly with her cheeks flushed. "We… we can't do this here."

His smirk only widened. "So… later, then?"

Anna rolled her eyes. "Idiot."

Ethan chuckled, then effortlessly scooped her up in a bridal carry.

She gasped, instinctively wrapping her arms around his neck. "Ethan!"

"What? You said we're going back, right?"

Before she could protest—He vanished.

Moving at inhuman speed, Ethan ran toward Xavier's School, the wind whipping past them as the park disappeared behind them.

Anna sighed before burying her face in his chest.

She was going home.

.....

The subway station was a mess.

Sabretooth's decapitated corpse lay in a growing pool of blood, his head nowhere to be found. Erik Lehnsherr, the infamous Magneto, was sprawled on the ground, his helmet cracked, unconscious from the sheer force of Ethan's punch. Nearby, the mutant covered in spikes was groaning in pain, his own weapons embedded into his flesh.

And standing in the middle of it all was Logan.

His brows furrowed as he took in the scene. He had seen a lot of carnage in his life, but this…

This was different. Ethan had done this.

Not out of anger. Not out of desperation.

But because he wanted to.

Logan glanced back at Sabretooth's headless body before moving away.

He then bent down, checking Magneto's pulse. 'Alive.' He wasn't sure if that was intentional or not.

The sound of sirens pierced the night air, growing closer. The authorities were coming.

Logan sighed before standing up. "Great."

He then quickly made his way out without getting caught, he didn't want to stick around. He had seen enough.

Soon, the police stormed in with thier weapons raised.

"Sir, we need a medical team here, now!" a young officer shouted into his radio.

The crime scene was soon secured.

One of the officers quickly assessed the scene before gesturing to his men. "Get Magneto and the other one into containment. Now."

The spiked mutant groaned as cuffs were slapped onto him, while Magneto remained unconscious as they restrained him with power-dampening shackles.

**Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters**

Charles Xavier sat in deep contemplation, hands clasped together as he listened to Logan's mental recounting of the subway battle.

Using Cerebro, he had also looked into Anna's memories, witnessing firsthand the emotional torment she had suffered at the hands of the imposter Ethan.

While he was relieved that Anna and Ethan had returned safely, there was something that deeply disturbed him.

Ethan Carter and the way he killed.

The way he tore through Sabretooth like he was nothing—without a single moment of hesitation.

His methods were swift, precise… brutal.

And the most unsettling part? He hadn't cared.

Erik had been lucky to be left alive. But Charles wasn't even sure why Ethan had spared him. Was it intentional? Or was it simply indifference?

Charles closed his eyes.

Ethan wasn't like the other students at Xavier's school. He wasn't like Logan, either.

Logan had lived through centuries of war—his actions were shaped by his past. But Ethan? He was young. And yet, the way he handled death wasn't normal.

.....

The mansion was unusually quiet as a group of students lingered in the common area, waiting.

Bobby, John, Angelica, Kurt, and Kitty had been hanging around after dinner, unsure why they felt restless. Ethan and Anna had been missing for hours, and no one had seen Anna since classes ended.

The last thing they knew was that Ethan had went after Anna, and no one had heard from them since.

Bobby paced back and forth, "Man, what's taking them so long?"

John, who was leaning against the couch with his arms behind his head, smirked. "Maybe they ran away together. A little romantic getaway, yeah?"

Kitty shot him a glare. "Not funny, John."

Angelica who had been oddly quiet the whole time, finally spoke. "They'll be back."

Kurt, sitting on the armrest of the couch, nodded.

Then, suddenly—

A gust of wind appeared suddenly.

Before anyone could react, a blur of motion appeared in the center of the room.

Ethan and in his arms—Anna.

The moment they saw them, the reactions were instant.

The boys immediately broke into grins.

Bobby smirked. "Damn, Ethan. You sure know how to make an entrance."

John chuckled. "Carrying her like a knight in shining armor? Smooth, man. Real smooth."

Ethan who is still holding Anna in his arms, rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, laugh it up."

Meanwhile, the girls completely ignored the teasing.

Kitty and Angelica rushed to Anna's side, concern evident on their faces.

"Anna! Are you okay?" Kitty asked, placing a gentle hand on her arm.

Anna gave a small smile, still visibly tired from everything. "Yeah… I'm okay."

Angelica folded her arms. "Are you sure?"

Anna hesitated for a second but nodded. "Yeah… Ethan brought me back."

Angelica's eyes flickered slightly, but she said nothing.

Kurt gave Ethan a look of approval. "Gut. You did the right thing, mein freund."

Ethan just gave a small nod.

Before the conversation could continue, a calm yet authoritative voice echoed through the hall.

"That's enough for tonight."

Everyone turned to see Professor Xavier entering the room, his gaze sweeping over them.

"You've all had a long day," he continued. "We will talk tomorrow. For now, I suggest you all get some rest."

The students exchanged glances before reluctantly agreeing.

"Alright, alright," Bobby yawned. "We'll get the details later."

John smirked at Ethan. "Try not to get into too much trouble tonight, lover boy."

Ethan ignored him and looked down at Anna.

She glanced up, a small, exhausted smile on her lips, "Guess we should head to bed too?" she murmured.

Ethan smirked. "Yeah… should be sleep together."

Anna's face turned red as she lightly hit his chest. "Ethan!"

He only chuckled and carried her off toward her room, followed by Kitty and Angelica who had smiles on their faces.

.....

Later that night, a private discussion was held.

Gathered in a quiet chamber were Professor Xavier, Storm, Logan, Jean, Scott, and Hank.

The atmosphere was tense.

"What do we do about Ethan?" Scott asked, breaking the silence. His arms were crossed, his jaw tight. "He's dangerous. He killed without hesitation. We can't just let him stay here."

"I agree," Hank said, adjusting his glasses. "His powers are… extraordinary, but his lack of regard for life is alarming. We can't risk the safety of the students."

Storm, however, shook her head. "We can't abandon him," she said firmly. "He's young, and he's clearly been through something traumatic. If we turn him away, we're only pushing him further down a dark path. We have the opportunity to teach him the value of life, to guide him toward a better way."

Logan leaned against the wall with his arms crossed, he said gruffly. "But Storm's right. If Anna's here, he's not going anywhere. And let's be honest—if we kick him out, he's not just gonna disappear. He'll do whatever he wants, and we won't be able to stop him. The kid went full-on executioner once, who can say there won't be next time."

Jean frowned with her hands clasped in her lap. "He's powerful," she said quietly. "More powerful than any of us realized. But power without control is dangerous. If we can help him find that control, maybe we can prevent something like this from happening again."

Charles listened to each of them, his expression thoughtful. Finally, he spoke. "Ethan's actions are concerning, but they don't define him. People can lose their way, but that doesn't mean they're lost forever. We have a responsibility to guide him, to show him that there's another path. Abandoning him now would only confirm his belief that the world is a cruel and unforgiving place."

Scott sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I don't like it, but I see your point. What do we do, then?"

"I'll speak with him tomorrow," Charles said. "Alone. He needs to understand the gravity of what he's done, but he also needs to know that we're here to help him. In the meantime, I want all of you to keep an eye on him. Not as enemies, but as allies. He needs to see that we're on his side."

The room fell silent as the weight of Charles's words settled over them.
