Rise of the Lustful Evil Monarch (Re)

Chapter 276: The Woman's Confusion

Third Person's POV

"P-Please, my lady, don't kill us or dismiss us from your service. We deeply regret our incompetence.

If we lose our position under your protection, death will surely follow us swiftly.

Please… for the sake of my wife and daughter, have mercy!"

He bowed even lower and struck his forehead against the floor with a loud smack and his shoulders shook as he began bawling uncontrollably.

Yet Ethan who remained in an ever observant state, noticed the fleeting flicker of disdain that crossed the woman's brow and the dark glint that surfaced in her eyes.

Though she didn't let it linger, the sign of her suppressed irritation was unmistakable.

Still, she sighed with clear annoyance and replied,

"Alright, get up, you fool. I never had any intention of relieving you from duty.

You three are still new, so I will consider this your final warning.

But if you truly want to stay under my command, then stop with the sniveling and trembling.

Carry yourselves with purpose."

Her voice grew steadier. "Continue the search. Your priority is to be the first to locate their whereabouts. And also—"

She paused mid-sentence and her lips parted slightly before falling silent.

That subtle feeling of an unknown presence that definitely lingered in the room like a wisp of breath made her halt in her next words.

Her gaze briefly shifted toward the window again but she said nothing further for the moment.

Even though the cloaked individuals didn't suspect anything, the duo frowned even more as they had already gleaned that this veiled woman with her mysterious aura had already detected something abnormal.

Meanwhile, Erhan rubbed his chin with thoughtful interest.

Listening closely to their conversation, his intrigue only deepened.

The talk of his portrait and her demeanor added layers to his understanding.

From her calm authority and cool intelligence, he had already deduced the likely identity of the pathetic young master whose severed arm still rested within his spatial ring.

That young master was definitely a son of that lustful but powerful Duke Vord, who was also the master and the overseer of this City of Vord.

As for being concerned about the risk of being tracked through that limb, he didn't pay it any heed.

The spatial storage ing he carried wasn't ordinary as it had once belonged to his Master Nyx and was given to him as a spare.

It contained a self-contained and completely independent space, one which his Master Nyx claimed existed beyond this realm entirely.

Any tracking attempt using blood magic would be futile as such advanced techniques were the specialty of vampires, and even they would fail against his Master Nyx's enchantments.

Her layered space and dark-seal restrictions were so absolute that no one could peer into it without being immeasurably stronger than her.

And even then, forcefully opening the ring was only possible for a being stronger than his Master and even that would cause the pocket space within to collapse while destroying all its contents.

If one were to consider the possibility of the existence of a being stronger than his master, then its chances were so rare that the odds of encountering one were nearly nonexistent.

Still, Ethan never dismissed possibilities.

Unlike other normal beings, he understood the truth of the world, of the higher realms like the Great Worlds and the terrifying rank six and rank seven entities that lived there.

Yet even amid all of this, his instincts told him something else entirely.

This woman before him… she didn't seem like someone eager to offer him up to that idiotic young master.

Instead, her calm and composed attitude hinted at something deeper.

She didn't act like a sycophant and she seemed far too calculating in his eyes to be used by someone like that pampered and useless ducal son.

And the way the three subordinates referred to her by the term "my lady" definitely meant her status wasn't ordinary.

Could she be from the Duke's household? Maybe she is the Duke's daughter, perhaps? But if so, why the detachment?

Many thoughts raced across his head.

Her performance which may seem convincing to normal people was full of holes and lacking in any sense of true conviction in his eyes.

She was hiding something and Ethan was a hundred percent certain of that.

He watched her even more intently now and analyzed her every word and gesture from the moment she had entered.

Every blink, pause, and inflection was replayed and filed in his mind.

Meanwhile, the kneeling figure was still unaware of her temporary silence as he stood up with renewed enthusiasm.

Beaming with relief, he began bowing repeatedly in her direction.

Looking at him, his body language was one of profound gratitude and continued fear.

Their sudden and dramatic movements caused their cloaks to fall from their shoulders and revealed their true appearances to them.

Of the three, one man and two women stood there now in an exposed state.

They were totally unremarkable in appearance and judging by the dull black horns protruding from their heads, it was evident that they were demons.

The man appeared to be in his early fifties, with streaks of gray threading through his dark hair.

The older woman standing beside him seemed to be around the same age.

The younger girl whom Ethan assumed to be their daughter, looked to be close to his own age.

However, unlike the others, she seemed visibly terrified as she repeatedly bowed toward the veiled woman.

The dark-haired woman's annoyance grew at the display and she waved her hand dismissively as though swatting away an irritating fly.

"Alright, off you go. And remember this, your orders are clear.

You must search thoroughly for the man who dared to harm the Duke's son.

If you succeed in finding him, then perhaps your chains may finally be broken."

Her voice was cold but not without subtle implication and mixed with a thread of false hope that caused the trio to light up with gratitude.
