Volume 1 Chapter 2: The Results Are In
The family van of the Sōtora family smoothly made its way down the highway towards their home. Azura, however, was not paying attention to the family chatter, looking out the window. Something, though more like someone, was occupying his mind. Specifically, a certain beautiful blonde student from Signal.
"Is everything okay, dear?" Verdant asked her son, turning to look at her son.
Aqua grinned mischievously at that. "He's thinking about the pretty, big boobied lady." Aqua teasingly said to her mother, making Azura blush.
"Aqua! Do not use such language!" Verdant said with a hint of disappointment.
"Why not, Mommy? It's the truth." The blue-haired little girl inquired, tilting her head in confusion.
"You're too young for such language. Now listen to your mother, or I might let her punish you." Azolum answered, keeping his eyes on the road as Aqua quieted down.
Azura sighed in relief, thinking he was out of the woods on the teasing. Unfortunately for the azure samurai, he was sorely mistaken on that front.
"So Azura, when are you on the hunt to give me grandchildren with that fiery little thing that caught your attention?" Verdant asked with a foxlike grin.
Azura blushed again at his mother's question. "M-Mother…!" Azura called out, trying to compose himself.
"Answer your mother, Azura." Azolum said sternly, but hiding his smirk from the rear-view mirror.
Almost able to feel his father's smirk, Azura took a deep breath before speaking. "I have no intentions of pursuing her romantically." He told them simply.
All three of his family members in the car with him seemed aghast at that. However, Aqua was the first one to speak up.
"Why not, Azzy? She was really pretty, and she seemed to like you?" The blue-haired turtle lover asked her big brother.
Azura looked sternly at his baby sister. "Aqua, you remember what happened the last time I dated a very flirty girl, don't you? I am not going to repeat that mistake if I can help it." He explained.
"You cannot keep living in the past, Azura. You will never be able to move forward with your life." Azolum said in a more comforting tone, as if speaking from experience.
"And your attraction was obvious, Azura." Verdant said teasingly.
Azura sighed at that. "I am not denying that she is an incredibly attractive young woman, Mother. I just have no intention of making the same mistake twice."
"No two young ladies are alike. Perhaps things could be different this time?" Verdant inquired.
Azura sighed and nodded. "Perhaps. We will see how things go after I have gotten to know her." He reluctantly agreed.
"Besides, Azzy. She seemed to like you too." Aqua piped up.
Azura blushed a bit at that. "D-Do you really think so?" He asked nervously.
"Honey, as a woman who's successfully wooed a man she likes, I know so." Verdant says, before giving Azolum a cheeky kiss on the cheek.
Azolum smiled at the gesture from his wife. Meanwhile, Azura was thinking about the blonde girl he had met after his tests. However, this time, his thoughts were less pessimistic. More hopeful.
Back at the house, the three Sōtora siblings who had remained behind had been hard at work. Argent was still trying to find his things as Quain and Lazuli were finishing their major work. There was still more to do, but they performed a good chunk of the hard stuff. Then the rest of the family rolled in.
"Welcome home, you guys." Lazuli said warmly.
"Lazzy!" Aqua called out excitedly, tackle-hugging her big sister's leg.
"It's okay baby sister, I'm here." Lazuli chuckled, ruffling her baby sister's hair.
Aqua looked mischievously up at her older siblings at that. "Azzy met a super pretty girl after his tests!" Aqua blurted out to the others.
"Azura actually being interested in the opposite gender again? And here I thought he'd turned himself into a misanthropic, non-sexual shut in. Glad to see he's finally put a bit of tiger back in the tank." Quain teasingly said, laying back in a recliner after a hard day's work.
Azura blushed both indignantly and in embarrassment. "Quain…!" Azura called out at that.
"If you're going to blush at that little brother, then I dread how being with a woman again will be for you." Quain said with a smirk.
Azura looked away in frustration as Lazuli decided to get in on the action.
"What happened? Who was this girl that piqued my baby brother's interest?" Lazuli asked, getting extremely interested very quickly.
Aqua grinned, eager to share details. "Her name is Yang! She's as tall as you and super pretty with ultra pretty gold hair and boobies bigger than yours!" she replied to her big sister, beginning to spill the details.
"Aqua." Verdant sternly warned, as Lazuli blushed at such language.
Aqua flinched at that. "Sorry, Mommy…" Aqua apologized, knowing that she would get the soap bar in her mouth if she pushed her luck more.
"Azura, I implore you to give me all the details about her. Leave nothing out." Lazuli said, coming over to her brother and getting right up in his face impatiently.
Azura sighed at that. "She… started flirting with me right away. She also commented on my looks, calling me very handsome. Not to mention that she had incredibly beautiful lilac-colored eyes…" Azura began explaining.
"Such a lovely and exotic color these days. Keep going, please." Lazuli said with a grin.
Azura blushed lightly at the memory of the girl's behavior. "Sh-She also expressed a surprisingly personal stake in getting to know me better. Even without knowing about our status…" Azura continued with his explanation.
"This is great! I'm so proud of you!" Lazuli yelled, trying to hug the life out of her brother's body.
"Don't kill the poor boy. He's been through enough." Quain sighed out.
"Oh, he's fine." Lazuli said, keeping up the hug.
"Air…! Need… air…!" Azura called out hoarsely.
"Sorry, Azura." Lazuli said, letting him go from her clutches.
"Sounds to me like you found a good match, brother." Quain said simply, giving his bro a thumbs up.
Azura blushed a bit again. "Qu-Quain! I do not even know her yet! We just met today…!" Azura pointed out.
"Is that a reason to stop now? You never know where the road of life will take you." Quain answered, yawning a bit.
Azura blushed a bit more as Argent looked less than thrilled by this news. In fact, he looked downright cross with the idea of Azura getting a new potential romantic interest so quickly in his eyes. A fact that did not go unnoticed by his older siblings and parents.
"Is something wrong, Argent?" Verdant asked her youngest boy.
"I don't trust this Yang girl. Whoever she is, I doubt she's good enough for Azu." The silver-haired boy replied stubbornly.
"You literally haven't even seen her, let alone met her, little brother." Quain corrected.
"I don't care. If she's anything like the last really flirty girl he was into, she's just gonna end up hurting him and breaking his heart. When she does, I'll be sharpening my swords and hand axes to go… 'have a talk' with her." Argent stubbornly responded, a malicious look in his eyes.
"The only talk you'll be having is with my belt on your behind if you ever say that again." Azolum said sternly, his normally regal eyes turning to becoming volcanic.
Argent flinched at that and looked at his father. "B-But Dad…" Argent started only to be cut off by his father.
"I understand your concern, but if the first thing you're going to do upon hearing about Azura meeting someone of the opposite gender is resort to violence, then I will take you off the waiting list for Master Yūri's Dojo." Azolum warned sternly.
Argent sighed, knowing what that threat meant. "Yes, Dad…" Argent replied submissively.
"Besides, Argie. Yang wouldn't hurt Azzy like that. She's too nice." Aqua piped up, trying to help.
"You have literally only known her for a day. You don't know for sure she won't do that." Argent replied.
"Argent, in the grand universe and the many lies that it may present us, such impressions left upon a person like our dear brother has acquired… that is no lie. That is one of the few truths we can perceive and enjoy." Quain explained to his brother.
Argent sighed at that. "Fine. I'll give her a chance if Azura ends up going for her. But I'm watching her." Argent replied, seeing that he was outnumbered.
"Well, that's the best compromise we will get. Glad to have you tentatively on board." Verdant answered.
"YAY! I'm gonna get a pretty, blonde, big boobied big sister!" Aqua cheered happily.
"That's it, getting the soap." Verdant said, walking towards the bathroom.
"Eep!" Aqua squeaked out before making a run for it.
Meanwhile on Patch - Xiao Long-Rose Household
The Xiao Long household was quiet. Too quiet for a house containing two young girls. Though one was still her bouncy, bubbly self, Yang was unusually deep in thought. Thought that her younger sister decided to break up.
"Hey, Yang! How did the interview go!?" a voice yelled from behind her.
Yang jumped a bit and looked back at the source of the voice. "Ruby, you scared me!" she called out.
Yang's little sister Ruby was a fair-skinned young girl with silver eyes and neck-length black hair with red tips. She wore a black long-sleeved blouse with a high collar and red trim on the sleeves, over which was a black waist cincher with red lacing up the front, and a matching skirt with red lining. She also wore a pair of thick black stockings and black combat boots with red laces, red trims around the top, and red soles.
Her outfit was topped by a red hooded cloak fastened to her shoulders by cross-shaped pins. Her emblem appeared as a large silver buckle on her wide black belt, which was slung around her hips at an angle. Attached to her belt was a pocket and a row of bullets. Ruby smiled at her big sister.
"That's not like you. You're never scared." Ruby answered.
Yang rolled her eyes and grinned. "Startled, then. I was just thinking about something." the older girl told her.
"Also not like you. What's up, big sis?" Ruby asked, cocking her head to the side with curiosity.
Yang slapped Ruby playfully on the arm. "Real funny, little sis." she shot back.
"Is it from the boy I heard Dad mumbling about earlier?" Ruby asked.
Yang grinned a bit and nodded. "Eeeyup!" she replied with a smirk.
"Why would that have you thinking?" Ruby asked, never understanding such matters.
Yang's grin became wider at that. "He's tall and good looking, he seems to be pretty strong, he was cute with how my flirting made him blush, and he genuinely laughed at my jokes and found them funny. Why wouldn't I be thinking about that?" she replied.
"You know what dad says about boys. They're nothing but trouble for you." Ruby said, trying to act all stern and full of authority.
"Well, maybe this boy is trouble I want. I haven't dated any decent guys, but this one seems genuinely great." Yang replied to her little sister with a smile.
"Your track record speaks otherwise on your ability to judge that, Sis. Remember the last one you brought home to dad?" Ruby asked, raising an eyebrow.
Yang rolled her eyes at that. "Don't remind me. That guy was a total douchebag who tried to act all cool but was a total wimp in reality. At least this one, being a warrior from a warrior clan, can both talk the talk and walk the walk." she said with a grin.
"They're even more trouble." Ruby said, talking like she was speaking from experience.
"Rubes, just because things didn't work out between you and the one you dated doesn't mean all romantic relationships with warrior clan guys are like that." Yang pointed out.
"I know that, but you need to be careful. If he's from a clan like that, and you figure wrong about him, you could get in serious trouble." Ruby said, concern clear in her voice.
Yang smiled and just hugged her little sis. "Don't worry, Ruby. Your big sis can take care of herself." she told her reassuringly.
"All right, all right. I give." Ruby sighed heavily.
"Thanks for looking out for me, baby sis." Yang said with a smile.
"What are sisters for? Though… what kind of things do you want with this guy?" Ruby asked.
Yang smirked at that. "Haven't decided yet. Wanna see where things go with him first." she replied.
"Do you have any idea what you're looking for in him?" Ruby asked, trying to figure out where her sister wanted to go.
"A guy who can keep up with me and will treat me well while respecting my independence. Nothing long term in the near future, but we'll see if that changes." Yang replied playfully.
"Does he have a cool weapon?" Ruby asked, still not understanding, or even pretending to understand, what her sister was babbling on about.
Yang giggled a bit at that. "Didn't get to see it, little sis. I just know he wields two daishō swords." she responded to Ruby's question.
"Like real katanas!?" Ruby asked, immediately jumping into her sister's lap with excitement.
Yang chuckled at that. "Kind of, but they were mismatched. One was a lot longer than the other and the shorter one was closer to a short sword in length. Seems like he's actually an honest to the gods, real life modern samurai from a warrior clan."
"Introduce me, please! I need to meet him!" Ruby begged.
Yang chuckled at that. "If he makes it into Signal, I promise to introduce you to him if we see him around the campus." she assured her little sis.
"You're the best big sister ever!" Ruby proclaimed, hugging Yang.
"Can you two keep it down and come in for dinner?" Taiyang yelled.
"We're coming, Dad! I was just telling Ruby about what happened today!" Yang called out to their father Taiyang.
"Alright! Hurry up before the food gets cold!" Tai yelled back.
With that, the two sisters rushed into the dining area to start dinner. Sitting down, they smiled at their father as he came in carrying dinner, wearing a pink apron that said "Kiss the Cook" on it. Rolling their eyes and chuckling, the two girls got up and helped their father with bringing in the food.
One Week Later - Sōtora Residence
After a long week of unpacking, the samurai family was finally unpacked and moved into their new home. Looking around, they observed the large living room area of their part of their new home. It was now fully furnished with a couple of couches, an entertainment center with a TV on it, a couple of game systems, and a rack for the family's daishō blades. The entire family was relaxing in the room together while Verdant prepared some breakfast. Argent and Aqua were playing video games, Azolum was reading the paper, and Azura and Quain were just outside doing some light hand-to-hand sparring.
It was at that moment that Azolum's scroll rang, letting him know he had a call. Looking at the caller ID, he was surprised at who it was as the others looked at him while Azura and Quain came in for a break.
"Who is it, Father?" Azura asked respectfully as Verdant poured he and Quain some lemonade.
"It's Headmaster Birch." Azolum answered, as he moved to pick up the call and put it on speaker.
"Hello?" she headmaster's voice called out from the speaker.
"This is Sōtora Azolum. How may I help you?" Azolum asked.
"We have your son's test results ready. How soon can you three come in for a follow up meeting?" Headmaster Birch replied.
"Do you have an opening later today?" Azolum asked.
There was a moment of silence as the family waited to hear back from the aged headmaster. Soon, his voice spoke up again.
"We can squeeze you in for late this afternoon if you can make it." Headmaster Birch informed the samurai.
"Give us an exact time, we will be there." Azolum answered seriously.
"Does around 16:30 work for you?" Headmaster Birch asked to confirm.
"We will be there. Thank you for giving us this opportunity, Headmaster." Azolum said, bowing his head in respect.
"You're quite welcome, Mr. Sōtora. We will see you this afternoon." the old headmaster replied.
"See you then, Headmaster." Azolum said as the two hung up.
Azura gulped nervously at hearing that his results were in. He had not felt this nervous since he had to get into Master Yūri's Dojo or even Raijin Academy. He could only hope he passed well enough to get in.
"It's okay, dear. Deep breaths." Verdant said calmly.
Taking deep breaths, Azura nodded as he tried to relax. "Y-Yes, Mother…" Azura replied, trying to calm himself.
"Stiff upper lip, brother. Looks best in front of those types." Lazuli recommended Azura to nodded.
"Even if you fail, there's always your next reincarnation to succeed." Quain 'reassured' his brother.
Azura gave his older brother a blank look at that. "Thank you very much, Quain…" he deadpanned in response.
"You're welcome. Always here to point out the inevitable futility of everything we do in this mortal existence." Quain said with a smile, before going back to his lemonade.
Rolling her eyes, Verdant turned to address her husband and middle son. "Make sure you two wash up and get dressed properly. We can't have you two looking scruffy and disgusting like after a spar. Now off you two go." Verdant shooed.
"Yes, Mother…" Azura replied before going to take a shower and get dressed.
"Of course, dear." Azolum answered, kissing her quickly on the cheek before heading off himself.
Soon, the two Sōtora men came back in. This time, Azura, like his father, was wearing a suit with a pink undershirt rather than his combat outfit. Though he still had his daishō blades with him, this time strapped to his back. Not only that, but he also had his medium length hair swept back to make himself look more presentable.
"Oh, you look so dapper and adorable!" Verdant squealed., making Azura blush a bit in embarrassment.
"Mother! I'm a tall, strong Sōtora warrior! I'm not supposed to be adorable…!" Azura replied sheepishly.
"Nonsense. You're always adorable to me." Verdant answered with a smile.
"Okay, I'm ready!" Aqua's voice called out, making them look at her to see her in her signature turtle hoodie.
"Aqua. You need to dress properly for such an important meeting. You wouldn't want your brother's chances to be harmed, would you?" Verdant asked.
"No. But I don't like frilly!" Aqua replied with a pout.
"Dear, we discussed this for important events." Verdant sternly said.
"No frilly!" Aqua replied firmly.
"Aqua, please wear the dress?" Azolum asked.
Aqua smiled brightly at that. "Okay, Daddy!" she replied, going to get changed.
Verdant gave her husband a look at that. Azolum immediately knew one of two things likely were to happen. And likely both of them. One, a talk later. Two, him sleeping on the couch that night. He sighed as Aqua skipped in wearing her formal dress, a prim and proper, frilly azure-blue dress.
Azura nervously looked at them. "Are we all ready to go?" He asked.
"Yes, we are. Everyone to the van. Quain, you're in charge." Azolum said.
"Lazuli, you're second in command." Quain said to his sister.
"Hey! What about me?!" Argent piped up indignantly.
"Remember the Chicken Incident?" Quain asked, raising an eyebrow.
"You guys are never gonna let me live that down, are you…?" Argent grumbled.
"Depends, have you learned your lesson?" Lazuli asked coyly.
"Yes…" Argent pouted, grumbling more.
"Then we will lay off you for that. At least till the next time we have fried chicken." Quain answered.
Argent grumbled at that as their parents and two siblings headed to the car. Buckling up, they headed off for Patch for the meeting. Eventually, they arrived at Signal and parked. Once they did, Azura took Aqua's hand as they headed off for the meeting. They soon arrived at the front desk in the lobby.
"Hello there, how may I help you?" the secretary asked the group of four.
"We are the Sōtora's for a 16:30 appointment with Headmaster Birch." Verdant answered, arm wrapped around her husband's.
"Take the elevator, and he's in his office at the end of the hall on the top floor." the secretary said.
Azura nodded at that. "Thank you." he replied as the party of four headed for the elevator.
As soon as they reached the elevator, Azolum hit the button as they waited. Once the elevator arrived, the family clamored inside and hit the top floor button. Muzak played as they waited patiently for the elevator to reach the top floor, Aqua humming to the tune as it played. Finally, they reached the top floor and headed for the end of the hall. Reaching the door, Verdant knocked.
"Come in!" Headmaster Birch's voice called out to them as they headed into the room.
"Headmaster Birch. Thank you so much for seeing us today." Azolum said, bowing his head in respect.
"Especially on such short notice." Verdant chipped in gratefully as she, Azura, and Aqua all bowed as well.
"You're quite welcome. Have a seat, please." the aged headmaster replied, motioning to four chairs in front of his desk.
Taking their seats, the four waited for the old headmaster to address them as he pulled out some papers and straightened them out. He then handed the papers to the samurai parents for them to look over with a smile.
"These are young Azura's test results. Please have a look." the old man told them.
Looking over the test results, they were surprised by them. The test results showed a perfect score on the physical tests and a near perfect score on the written test, Azura having missed only one answer on the written portion. Smiling, the family all looked up at the aged huntsman, who had the biggest smile on his face.
"Welcome to Signal, young Mr. Sōtora. Here's a map of our academy to get you to our tailor to be fitted for your Signal Academy issued uniform." Headmaster Birch replied, handing them a map of the school.
"Excellent work, son!" Azolum said, putting his hand firmly on his son's shoulder.
"My baby boy got in!" Verdant yelled happily and hugged him.
"I knew you could do it, Azzy!" Aqua cheered with joy.
Azura smiled at that and bowed to the aged headmaster. "Thank you, Headmaster Birch."
"You're quite welcome, my boy. Now why don't you go and get yourself fitted for your uniform?" the old huntsman replied.
Nodding and bowing, the four got out of their seats and excused themselves. Heading back to the elevator, they headed back down as Aqua hummed to the tune of the muzak again. Once they reached the ground floor, Azura pulled out the map and looked it over to figure out where they needed to go.
"Okay, so we're here. And the tailor's office is… all the way across the campus. Great…" Azura sighed as he looked at the map.
"A walk never killed anyone. Let us go." Azolum said as he led the family out of the office.
With that, the four samurai family members made their way through the campus. As they did, Azura kept his eyes on the map to make sure they were going the right way. So much so that he lost focus on his surroundings and walking speed, resulting in him accidentally bumping into something. Or someone, if the oof and yelp as the sound of someone hitting the ground he heard was any indication.
"Oh, my gods! I am so sorry!" Azura called out, looking at the person he had accidentally knocked over.
He saw a girl of about five feet and four inches tall with black hair that had red highlights. She wore a black and red combat dress and combat skirt combo with a long, red hooded cloak. But what stood out most about the admittedly very cute girl was her stunning silver eyes.
"That's okay…" the girl said, staring up in awe at the boy before her.
"Are you all right? Please, let me help you up, Miss…?" Azura replied politely, leaning down, and offering her a hand to help her up.
"Ruby… Ruby Rose." Ruby said as she took Azura's hand.
Helping her up, Azura made sure she was okay. "Please excuse my rudeness, Lady. Rose. My family and I are on our way to the tailor's so that I can get fitted for my uniform. I should have been watching where I was going. I am-" he explained before being cut off by a familiar voice as he was introducing himself.
"There you are, Ruby! Where were you goi… oh! Hello, Azura." Yang started before noticing Azura with a grin.
Azura blushed a bit as he saw the blonde from last week. "O-Oh! Hello, Lady Xiao Long. Fancy meeting you here…" He nervously replied.
"Is this the guy you were talking about, Yang?" Ruby asked.
Yang nodded with a smirk. "Yup! Azura, meet my little sister Ruby Rose!" She said, introducing Ruby to Azura more properly.
Azura was surprised by this. "I see. A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Lady Rose." Azura replied with a polite bow.
"Oh, my gods! Are you really a samurai!? What kinds of weapons do you have?! Have you ever had to cut a pig in half to test your blades!?" Ruby asked and the questions rattled off from there like a machine gun.
"Whoa, whoa! Easy, Rubes! Let the man breathe!" Yang told her, trying to calm her down.
Azura chuckled a bit at Ruby's antics and waved off Yang's concerns. "Worry not, Lady Xiao Long. I understand that it is not often that one meets a real, modern-day samurai. It is quite understandable that she would have questions." He replied in amusement.
"So, if you're here, does that mean you'll be in classes with us?" Ruby asked.
Azura gave a charming smile and nodded. "Yes, it does, Lady Rose. I look forward to continuing my education alongside you two." He replied with a bow.
Yang grinned at that. "Glad to hear it. And please, call us Yang and Ruby." She replied.
"That would be improper, since we barely know each other, Lady Xiao Long. Now… I believe you had some questions for me, Lady Rose?" The young samurai replied.
"So, are you a real samurai?" Ruby asked earnestly.
Azura nodded with a smile. "Born and raised, brought up to live by the code of Bushido. If you would like, I can allow you to look at my daishō blades." he replied.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!" Ruby yelled excitedly.
Chuckling, Azura took his ōdachi off his back and drew it, allowing Ruby and Yang to see the work and craftsmanship put into the blade. It was a beautiful metallic blue that shone in the light like a deadly steel jewel. It had a wickedly sharp edge with a spike patterned hamon line on the blade and a special tsuba hand guard made for running Dust through the blade. The tsuka handle had traditional tsunami maki wrappings over ray skin samegawa, the tsunami maki wrappings colored in the design of the stripes of a white tiger. Ruby could only stare in awe as he handed her the blade to inspect it more closely. As she looked it over, Ruby could not help but be amazed at seeing an actual samurai ōdachi in person.
"IT'S SO COOL!!! It's a kage-ryū ōdachi! I never thought I'd get to see one up close!" Ruby yelled in pure joy as she handed the blade back to its master.
Yang looked confused at that. "I'm sorry, a what now?" she asked, completely lost.
"An ōdachi! They're really big katana-like swords! They were designed to better fight cavalry and Grimm. Most, however, were built for big show pieces, as they take a very skilled smith to make them. They usually have to be forged in multiple sections, while only a master smith can do it in one go. His is shorter than most, so it can actually be drawn from the belt, not from a scabbard on his back." Ruby explained, excitement overflowing.
Azura smiled at this, genuinely impressed. "You know your blades, Lady Rose. I am impressed." he praised the shorter, younger girl.
"Sorry. I just really like weapons…" Ruby sheepishly said, blushing a bit.
Yang chuckled at that. "Understatement of the year, Rubes. You're a complete and total weapons' dork fanatic." she replied playfully.
"I prefer 'weapons enthusiast,' thank you very much!" Ruby yelled back.
Chuckling, Azura took back the blade and resheathed it before putting it back on his back. "Would you like to see my wakizashi next, Lady Rose?" he asked the Red Reaper.
"Yes, please!" Ruby yelled happily.
Chuckling and taking his wakizashi off his back, Azura held it out and drew it for Ruby and Yang to see. Much like its partner, the wakizashi, while shorter, was also a beautiful metallic blue that shone in the light, had a wickedly sharp edge, a tsuba made for running Dust into the blade, and a white tiger patterned tsunami maki wrapping around the tsuka. Like its much larger partner, the wakizashi had a spike patterned hamon line on the blade.
"It's just as cool!!!!" Ruby yelled in excitement.
Azura chuckled as he sheathed his sidearm blade. "Thank you, Lady Rose. I am glad to meet someone who has an eye for well-made weapons."
"I do have my strong suits." Ruby said, rubbing her knuckles on her chest.
"Well, watch out for any 'cutting' remarks, Ruby. He's got a pretty 'sharp' tongue." Yang told her playfully.
Azura chuckled hard at that, trying to contain his laughter. Much to Ruby's surprise.
"What the…" Ruby muttered at the one thing she would never have expected.
Noticing her confusion, Azura composed himself and turned to look at Ruby. "Is everything alright, Lady Rose?" he asked in concern.
"Nothing. Nothing." Ruby said, trying not to look suspicious. Failing, but trying.
"Fair enough. Also, to be fair Lady Xiao Long, one has to learn to make one's words bite harder than any blade in a samurai court." Azura replied jokingly, surprising Yang but quickly making her laugh.
"Azzy!" Aqua's voice called out as she tackle-hugged her big brother from behind.
Chuckling, Azura put his wakizashi back on his back and turned to face his little sister. "Hello, Aqua." he greeted her.
Aqua looked and immediately perked up more at who she saw. "Hi, Yang!" She greeted the blonde enthusiastically.
Chuckling, Yang waved at the little girl. "Hey, kiddo. How have you been?"
"I've been great! Azzy got in with top marks, just like I said he would!" Aqua replied happily.
"And who's this?" Ruby asked.
Breaking away from her big brother, Aqua walked up to the older girl. "I'm Aqua, Azzy's baby sister! Who are you, pretty lady?" she replied happily.
"I'm Ruby Rose… Yang's sister…" Ruby blushed sheepishly at the compliment.
Aqua frowned at that as she looked Ruby over. "No, you're not." she replied firmly.
"Yes, I am. We have the same dad." Ruby answered firmly.
"You're too small to be Yang's sister." Aqua replied, reaching up and patting Ruby's boobs, much to the two sisters' shock.
"Sōtora Aquamarine! Where are your manners!?" Azura replied crossly, glaring at his little sister for her rude behavior as Aqua flinched.
"Sorry, Azzy…" she replied submissively.
"I am not the person you owe an apology to. Apologize to Lady Rose." Azura told her firmly.
Aqua turned to look at Ruby and bowed as politely as she could. "I'm sorry, Miss Ruby…" she replied in a sad tone.
"Apology accepted." Ruby answered with a sigh.
"Seriously Azura, you need to learn to slow down… Oh. It appears we have company." Verdant said, seeing the sight before her.
Yang smiled at that. "Hello, Lady Verdant." she greeted the older but shorter woman, bowing a bit in an attempt to be respectful.
"Oh, Miss Xiao Long! How lovely to see you again!" Verdant said with a smile.
Yang smirked at that. "Believe me, pleasure's all mine. I'd like to introduce my younger sister by two years, Ruby Rose." she replied, motioning to Ruby and accidentally putting her on the spot.
"I-It's an honor to meet you…" Ruby nervously said.
"Oh dear, the honor is all mine." Verdant answered with a warm, motherly smile.
"I swear we taught that boy better…" Azolum muttered as he caught up, causing Ruby to marvel at the sight of the giant of a man.
"Azolum dear, Miss Xiao Long and her lovely little sister are here." Verdant explained.
"Well then, it's an honor to meet you." Azolum politely said to Ruby.
"Y-you as well. I am Ruby Rose, sir." Ruby said, bowing.
"Oh no sir about it, it is just Azolum. Plain, simple Azolum." he said, waving her off.
"Plain, simple Azolum who was almost the leader of our clan…" Azura mumbled a bit under his breath.
"What was that?" Azolum asked his son.
Flinching, Azura stood at attention. "N-Nothing, Father! Nothing at all…!" He replied quickly.
"It is so good to finally see you again, Yang. I was worried we would not get to see you again." Verdant said chipperly.
Yang grinned a bit at that. "It's good to see you again, too. Especially you, Azura." Yang replied, flirtatiously addressing Azura.
Azura blushed a bit but smiled and dipped his head in a slight bow. "Thank you, Lady Xiao Long." He said politely.
"Where are you four off to in such a hurry?" Ruby asked.
"I'm heading over to the tailors to get fitted for my Signal Academy uniform." Azura replied.
"If you want, we could show you the rest of the way. Personally, I'd like to see how good a handsome man like you is gonna make our uniform look." Yang flirtatiously offered, making Azura blush more.
"Does this mean you're going to be joining us in class?" Ruby asked.
"That is a possibility, yes. According to my results, I did well enough to make it into the advanced classes of the last year at Signal." Azura replied, pulling out and looking over his test result while trying to compose himself after Yang's flirtations.
"I knew you were strong just by looking at you but being that good is still impressive. So, what do you say we show you around after we get you to the tailor's, Handsome? We could get to know each other on a much more… 'personal' level before you start next semester." The blonde brawler purred out, placing a hand on Azura's suit-covered arm.
"Yang, you know what dad says about being a tease." Ruby warned.
"Come on, Rubes. Let me have this." Yang replied with a grin.
"Whatever you say, Yang." Ruby said as she rolled her eyes.
Turning her attention back to Azura, Yang smiled. "So, what do you say, Good Looking? Are you and your family up for a personal tour from two beautiful girls after you get fitted?" Yang asked Azura, subtly getting a slight feel for the muscles hidden just beneath the sleeve of his suit jacket and shirt sleeve and liking what she could feel out.
Azura gulped as Verdant replied for him.
"We would be honored, Yang." Verdant said with a smile.
With that, the two sisters led the four members of the samurai family off to the tailors to get Azura fitted for his uniform. As they did, Yang's teasing and flirtations did not let up.
