Chapter 644: Kato's Purpose
The Japanese delegation was extremely polite, and all smiles. It seemed as though it was not them who had come to inspect, but rather as if Xiao Han and his party had arrived in Japan, and the hosts wanted to extend their hospitality. Though Zhao Lizhong had interacted with Japanese people before, he was still somewhat unaccustomed to it. However, since an important client had arrived, it was only natural that they should not be neglected and should indeed be well entertained.
"Mr. Kato, shall we head back to the hotel first?" Zhao Lizhong spoke up.
The man turned his head and glanced at the man with gray hair behind him, who nodded slightly. Only then did the man called Kato nod and say, "Well, if that's the case, we will respectfully comply and head back to the hotel first."
"Very well!" Zhao Lizhong nodded.
After that, two cars carrying the delegation headed straight for the Junru Grand Hotel.
Upon arriving at the hotel, Zhao Lizhong arranged several suites for them. Although the price was steep, the money was originally earned from the Corporation. Now, using their money to entertain them was simply a strategy to earn even more from them.
The luggage was settled, and accommodations arranged.
"Mr. Kato, should we go to the company or have dinner first?" Zhao Lizhong asked curiously.
"No, we head to the mine first!" Kato said firmly.
"So soon?" Zhao Lizhong was startled.
By the manner of the Chinese, on visiting a company for inspection, they surely would have preferred leisure time first, ideally involving university girls, before they were satisfied. Moreover, Zhao Lizhong had already made the necessary arrangements; once the word was given, he would have the university girls sent directly to the hotel to entertain the Japanese visitors thoroughly. However, Zhao Lizhong was surprised that they showed no interest in such activities and instead requested to go directly to the mine.
To Zhao Lizhong, the mine was a dreadful place to visit unless absolutely necessary. The mining process generated a lot of dust, and the constant rumbling noise was distressing and very uncomfortable to hear.
Xiao Han gave a slight smile and said, "Then let's go to the mine."
"Yes, yes!" Zhao Lizhong nodded.
Subsequently, two cars left the hotel and headed straight for the mine.
This behavior also highlighted the Japanese's serious and extremely formal approach to work. Work was always their first priority. Everything else must come after the work—after all, leisure relies on work. Without work, where would the leisure come from?
Upon arriving at the mine, the group alighted from their vehicles.
The mine site was dusty, yet the visitors showed no signs of disdain. On the contrary, at the sight of the mine, they were very enthusiastic and interested.
"Very nice, it looks great!" Kato laughed.
"You flatter us, Mr. Kato," Zhao Lizhong said with a slight smile, and then added, "Our mine does indeed have high yield and high content of copper, and moreover, the extraction is quite convenient, saving both time and effort."
"Indeed!" Kato nodded, and then added, "I have already looked into this. However, we would like to see the site for ourselves!"
"No problem at all!" Zhao Lizhong agreed without hesitation.
After all, there was nothing remarkable about it. Their desire to visit the mine showed their seriousness and dedication to their work—certainly more reliable than some who negotiate projects from their office desks. Although many have strong opinions and grievances about the Japanese attitude, this could never change the Japanese strict discipline and their commitment and passion for their work.
Shortly thereafter, the group walked down from the upper area.
Dust stirred up, but this did not dampen the interests of Kato and his companions in the slightest. They even forewent wearing masks, walking directly to the excavated valley below, following the winding road where cars could no longer pass.
After walking for several minutes, they finally reached the collection point of the mine.
Kato stood at the mine, curiously observing the vast mine.
At that moment, the man with gray hair standing behind Kato tremulously pulled out a map from his pocket, opened it, and began meticulously searching the area. Kato turned to look at him, and the man nodded at him.
Kato then curiously asked, "Mr. Zhao, during your mining, have you ever found something?"
"Like what?" Zhao Lizhong asked curiously.
"Like..." Kato smiled, "some skeletons? Or perhaps some firearms from the World War II era!"
"Ah?" Zhao Lizhong paused, then awkwardly shook his head, saying, "No, we haven't found those. Why, is that what you are here for?"
Kato turned to look at the man with gray hair. The man nodded slightly. Kato then laughed and said, "Not to keep it from you, but actually, we did have our own motives for coming here."
"Private motives?" Upon hearing this, Zhao Lizhong instantly became somewhat vigilant, frowning as he asked, "What 'private motives' do you mean?"
"In World War II, my grandfather died here," Kato sighed, "Due to the war, his remains had to be buried here. Now that it's a time of peace, my intention is to retrieve my grandfather's remains and bring them back home. It would be good for his soul to return to his homeland, wouldn't it?"
Zhao Lizhong heard this and just gave a small smile, saying, "This..."
Zhao Lizhong didn't know quite how to put it. After all, he was Chinese. If it had just been about business dealings, it would have been fine. However, the other party had come here searching for the remains of his grandfather from World War II. If he agreed, and word got out, it could greatly impact Hanmen Mining Company. What if someone with ulterior motives used it against Hanmen Mining Company in the future? Wouldn't he be bringing disaster upon himself?
Seeing Zhao Lizhong hesitate, Kato immediately said, "Don't worry, as long as you agree, in the future, the price of copper mined imported from Hanmen Mining will increase by one-third. How about that?"
Sss...
Upon hearing this, Zhao Lizhong instantly drew a breath of cold air.
Actually, he hadn't intended to raise the price at all, but the other side had just offered a one-third increase. This excited him. He hurriedly turned his head to look at Xiao Han, seemingly seeking his opinion.
After all, this matter could be big or small, depending on how it was handled.
Xiao Han beside him smiled, then said, "Mr. Kato, are you really just here to find your grandfather's remains?"
"Uh..." Kato was taken aback for a moment and, feeling awkward, looked at Zhao Lizhong and asked, "Who is this?"
Kato had been ignoring Xiao Han because he seemed too young and looked more like a chauffeur than a person of significant status. Thus, he was somewhat surprised that Xiao Han dared to speak in Zhao Lizhong's presence. This indicated that this man's status was clearly not lower than Zhao Lizhong's, and if not higher, at least not much different.
"Oh, he is the chairman of Hanmen Company, Xiao Han!" Zhao Lizhong quickly introduced.
"Ah?" Kato was a bit flustered, suddenly dealing with such a young chairman, which indeed startled him. Kato awkwardly looked at Xiao Han, then turned back to look at the silver-haired man behind him. He was truly at a loss.
At that moment, Xiao Han smiled and said, "Mr. Kato, don't hide it anymore. Let your real boss come out and speak."
Zhao Lizhong looked at Xiao Han in amazement.
Kato's face, however, was full of embarrassment.
At that time, the silver-haired man behind him smiled, then said, "Mr. Xiao, you truly have a discerning eye. You saw right through me."
"Hehe..." Xiao Han chuckled and said, "Doesn't hiding like this tire you out, Mr. Kato?"
"How did you know I'm really Kato?" the silver-haired man asked curiously.
"Because on the Corporation's roster, you are the president of the branch corporation," Xiao Han glanced at him, then said, "There's only one Kato. If he isn't, then it must be you, right?"
"I must say, you're very smart!" Kato nodded and said, "I like talking to smart people and cooperating with them too!"
"So do I!" Xiao Han nodded, saying, "Similarly, I just don't know if Mr. Kato is as smart as me!"
Xiao Han's counter-remark left Kato completely at a loss for words.
Kato gave a bitter smile and said, "Well, borrowing the words of the Chinese, 'The new waves of the Yangtze River drive on those ahead.' You are indeed impressive."
"Mr. Kato, tell me, what is the real purpose of your visit here?" Xiao Han asked.
"I've already said so, I am here to find my grandfather's remains," Kato immediately responded.
"Do you think I would believe that?" Xiao Han countered.
"If you don't believe me, there's nothing I can do," Kato said with a bitter smile, then continued, "It's really as I said. Therefore, I hope Mr. Xiao could grant my request. Let me take my grandfather's remains and his belongings back."
A thought struck Xiao Han.
The other party had always stressed his grandfather's remains, but now, he suddenly emphasized his grandfather's belongings as well. What did that imply? It indicated that the other party was definitely here for his grandfather's belongings. But could things buried in the soil of Great China be so easily claimed by others?
Without showing anything on the surface, Xiao Han said, "Okay, if it's just your grandfather's remains, I will allow you to take them back."
"Really?" Kato, upon hearing this, was overjoyed at once.
"Of course, it's true," Xiao Han nodded.
Kato's old face showed a hint of excitement as he quickly said, "Good, if it's really as you say, I will add a third to the price from your company on the copper ore imports in the future. Is that okay?"
"That's certainly fine!" Xiao Han nodded.
At this point, Kato immediately opened a map and said, "This is the map from those days; it has markings of where my grandfather was buried, but it seems it has all changed now!"
