She Belongs To The Devil

Chapter 763: Thief

Damien honestly had no idea until now about Maple's true identity.

When he tried to find that out by asking to the demons around the Pandemonium, the jealous demonesses told him that she was a thief, and the enchanted demons had said that she was an angel of Hell.

And when Maple herself revealed who she really was, Damien was utterly dumbfounded.

He needed some time to process everything and connect all the dots in his mind. So he quietly went and sat down on a stool that was at one corner of the shop.

Maple could obviously hear Damien's thoughts. His thoughts were too loud for her to not hear.

Damien was thinking about so many things at once that Maple's head hurt when she tried to keep up. But she got the overall gist of his concerns.

And that was – what her real intention was regarding Joyce.

Maple carried the stool that was behind her and went and placed it in front of Damien. She sat down in front of him even though Damien rolled his eyes and looked away from her.

And she began to tell more about her from the very beginning.

"Damien, have you heard about how the humans came to possess the magical power?"

Damien didn't know and had never cared about it.

His thought was enough for Maple to explain further.

"There once was a time when the angels didn't shy away from showing themselves to the humans. Unlike today, they never worked from the shadows. They freely showed themselves to the humans, had friendly chats with them, asked about their problems, and worked for the betterment of mankind."

Maple stared blankly in front of her and further said, "And I was also fortunate enough to have met one of the children of God. Her name was Zada. She was always kind to everyone around her.

And because of her kindness, I always wanted to be around her. I followed her around whenever I could. More than that, I used to copy the spells and hand gestures she used to perform every chance I caught her doing so. She didn't mind it since humans couldn't wield magic."

Suddenly, a hint of guilt appeared on her face.

"And humans by nature were always curious creatures. And also greedy. I had seen how Zada always used to carry the magical elixir with her. Unlike the other angels, her body couldn't naturally harness the energy from nature. So she used to drink the elixir to maintain and increase her magical powers and capacity."

Damien could finally guess why all the demonesses called Maple a thief.

And Maple agreed to Damien. "Yes, you are right. I finally gave in to my greed and stole that elixir from Zada. I was found out by her when I was ready to drink it. She warned me not to drink that saying that my human body wouldn't be able to handle it, but I didn't listen to her."

"I gulped down the whole thing," Maple heaved a deep sigh.

Damien was finally looking Maple in the eyes. "And didn't that affect you? I mean…"

"Didn't it kill me that instant?" Maple completed his sentence. And she answered, "It almost did. But Zada did everything she could to save me. She was disappointed in me, but she forgave my stupidity."

Damien raised his brows in disbelief. "She forgave you after you stole some of her magic?"

"Yes, she forgave me. After all, she was the angel of forgiveness and mercy."

Maple looked at Damien and answered his question that he didn't say out loud, "And yes, that was the greatest sin I committed. That is the reason why I am in Hell.

God was really furious at me because I not only stole the divine power but I also learned how to wield magic. He didn't like it that the humans were capable to do something that was reserved for angels only."

Maple smiled slightly and added, "And to add to my sin, I also taught all three of my children to perform spells and harness the energy from nature when I learned that they had inherited the ability to wield magic like me."

"So, God was the one to punish you?" Damien asked to confirm. "And what about your children? Were they punished too?"

"God didn't punish my children nor did he take away their ability. But he did punish me. I died when I was young. And I was thrown into the pits of Hell. I was given all kinds of punishment by all the seven rulers of Hell.

The Princes and the King envied me because of the divine power that was flowing in my body. I was treated as their equal by God, even though he hated me. I got to keep my body as well as my powers even after my death. My guess is that God didn't want to see the divine power to dissolve into nothingness.

And since I had one ability that none of the rulers of Hell had, I think they hated me even more. I was tortured for thousands of years by them. There was not a single second where I didn't wish that I hadn't stolen that elixir."

When Maple paused to take a deep breath, Damien asked a question in curiosity, "What is that ability that made you the number one target?"

Maple tapped her finger on her temple and replied, "Mind reading."

"Ah!" Damien nodded his head. He had never seen or heard of someone who was able to read other's minds. So he thought that her claim was true.

He then asked again, "So, when did they finally stop torturing?"

"Honestly, I have no idea. I think they stopped torturing me after they got bored." Maple then glanced out of her door and added, "And with time, King Lucifer finally saw that I could be useful. He put aside his hatred for me. And he would summon me when he would need to use my mind reading ability."

Maple finally came to the original point. "Mind reading isn't the only ability that I have. I also see premonitions from time to time, especially about my descendants."

Damien was now very much interested in what she was going to say.

And seeing how attentively Damien was listening, Maple said with enthusiasm, "I don't if you have ever heard about Joyce's grandmother. But I had seen that all coming. I had seen how she would turn into a dark witch.

Time and again, I tried my best to stop her. I used to whisper to her whenever I felt a connection with her. I used to warn her not to use the black magic because I had seen her doom. But she never listened. And in the end, her very existence was erased."

"So you saw something about Joyce as well?" Damien finally asked what he wanted to know from the very beginning.
