Shinigami: Medicine Can't Save The Soul Reaper Society

Chapter 208: Chapter 209: The Masked Legion

Lisa, feeling far from appeased, lifted her slender leg and delivered several swift kicks to the head of Seinosuke. She seemed entirely unbothered by the fact that she was wearing a sailor uniform. Only after venting her frustrations did she casually pick up a few comic books and turn to leave.

Meanwhile, Seinosuke lay sprawled on the ground, his eyes vacant as his legs occasionally twitched. He looked as though he was barely clinging to life.

Yet, this scene drew no attention. It was as if everyone had long grown accustomed to such antics.

Sitting elegantly atop a high perch and licking her paw, the black cat Yoruichi glanced downward. From Seinosuke's bruised and battered face, she caught a glimmer of something peculiar—an expression that seemed to say "Nice."

Clearly, Seinosuke was experiencing a strange mix of pain and delight.

Yoruichi pondered briefly whether to record this scene and leave it on Rinka's bedside as a prank. But her thoughts were interrupted when she tilted her head slightly, as though listening to something in the distance.

The next moment, Yoruichi's feline eyes narrowed, and with a flash of movement, she appeared at the center of the warehouse. Her tone grew serious as she spoke.

"Everyone, there's a situation…"

The masked Shinigami, who had been idly amusing themselves, paused mid-action, their attention immediately drawn to her.

"The Fourth Division Vice-Captain has been taken hostage by Koga Kuchiki and used as a shield to escape the Seireitei. Based on the residual traces at the Senkaimon, it's highly likely that they've appeared near Karakura Town in the Human World."

As Yoruichi explained, everyone instinctively glanced at Seinosuke, then quickly realized she was referring to Makoto, the healer who had once treated them.

"The Central 46 and the Seireitei have yet to make their stance clear," Yoruichi continued, her tone sharp. "But knowing the Central 46, they are unlikely to prioritize a Vice-captain's life over the so-called dignity of the Seireitei…"

She paused for a moment before speaking again with a commanding authority.

"Makoto is a key ally of ours within the Seireitei. Not only has he provided us with invaluable medical aid, but it is also a matter of principle—we cannot sit idly by and let this happen."

The masked Shinigami exchanged glances and nodded in agreement.

"However," Yoruichi added, "our current situation makes acting in the open extremely risky. If the Seireitei discovers our presence, it could escalate into full-blown conflict."

Shinji Hirako expressed his concern. "That's the problem. We can't afford to be reckless and draw unnecessary attention."

"Ah, but what a coincidence…" Kisuke Urahara interjected, scratching his messy hair with an air of nonchalance. "I've just finished developing a new type of gigai that suppresses spiritual pressure. It'll allow you all to move freely without being detected by the Seireitei."

The room fell silent as the masked Shinigami collectively stared at him.

Hiyori Sarugaki's face darkened as she hurled a sandal at Kisuke. "You sly fox! You definitely finished this ages ago and just didn't want us running around causing trouble, didn't you?"

"Oh, come now, Hiyori," Kisuke replied with exaggerated pained expression. "Such accusations wound me deeply."

As he spoke, he began pulling out gigai one after another from… somewhere beneath his clothing. The surreal sight left everyone visibly uneasy.

"This feels so wrong," Lisa said with an uncharacteristic seriousness.

"Agreed," Mashiro Kuna added. "Kisuke-san, this has to be intentional."

"You bald fraud! How dare you deny you've been holding out on us!" Hiyori growled, drawing her zanpakuto without hesitation.

But before chaos could erupt, Yoruichi intervened in a flash, her imposing spiritual pressure pinning Hiyori down instantly.

"Now is not the time for this nonsense," Yoruichi said sternly. "Have you all forgotten our ultimate goal? This mission is your first opportunity to work as a team. If we can't even rescue Makoto, how can we hope to confront the true mastermind behind your Hollowfication?"

Her voice grew even colder. "Kisuke and I may also need to reconsider the value of cooperating with you."

The atmosphere shifted immediately.

"Ah, using the stick over the carrot, I see," Shinji remarked with a smirk. "But I can't deny she has a point."

"Alright, Hiyori, settle down. We've been cooped up in this warehouse long enough. This is a rare chance to stretch our legs," Shinji said, his tone lighthearted but firm.

"Fine, fine!" Hiyori grumbled, though her expression betrayed a hint of excitement. "Then let's go all out!"

"No, Hiyori," Shinji interrupted, his voice steady. "We're not here to start a war with the Seireitei. But we will find Makoto, no matter what."

"Got it," she replied reluctantly.

"Well then…" Muguruma, the most eager among them, slipped into his gigai and dashed out of the warehouse. The rest of the masked legion quickly followed suit, splitting into groups to track down Koga and Makoto.

Meanwhile, Makoto sensed their movements through the "Seeds of the Forest," a unique technique that allowed him to detect spiritual changes around him.

"So this is Karakura Town…" he thought as he surveyed his surroundings. The dense spiritual energy here was unlike any other place in the Human World.

Thanks to the influence of Muramasa's ability, Makoto's condition was notably better than Byakuya's. While his spiritual control had been significantly weakened, he hadn't completely lost the ability to manipulate spiritual particles.

Or perhaps, more accurately, the absence of Muramasa's consciousness meant that Makoto's spiritual manipulation merely felt delayed rather than entirely impaired.

This, he realized, was likely because he often relied on his zanpakuto's abilities even without formally releasing it. Thus, he hadn't suffered the complete incapacitation that Byakuya had.

Even without Muramasa's assistance, Makoto found the sensation of controlling spiritual particles familiar.

Muramasa's ability, it seemed, could only suppress the consciousness of the zanpakuto spirits—it could not truly strip Shinigami of their power.
