Chapter 654: 653: Auction (4)
"1.5 Immortal Sh-!"
"5 Immortal Sha-!"
"8 Immortal Shard-!"
"10 Immortal Shards!"
"15 Immortal Shards!"
The auction hall was a scene of pure chaos. Shouts, spits, and curses flew all around the auction hall.
None among those who sat in the low seats dared to make a bid for the living grimoire called The Codex.
Only the richest and most powerful of those that sat in the middle seat dared to contest with those that sat in the high seats.
The price of the Codex kept on increasing, and Anon's lips could not help but twitch when he realized how poor he truly was.
One Immortal Shard was equivalent to a billion Mystic Crystals, but his wealth was just a million gold coins.
'Wow, I'm as poor as a church rat.'
Corey smiled weakly, and he decided to observe the hologram of the Codex.
From what he could sense, the Grimoire was sealed by the chains on it, and Corey could not even get a glimpse of its aura or its presence because of the seal on it.
'The appearance of the book makes it look like a demonic or an evil book.'
'I wonder... Maybe it's because the grimoire is an evil or demonic entity that it was sealed.'
'Cause I don't see any reason why a grimoire that was created by nine Tier 9s should be sealed and sold.'
Corey furrowed his brows in thought, and then he glanced at Calista who had a grin if satisfaction and pleasure on her face as the bids kept on increasing.
'Maybe the reason why the book is being sold is because she doesn't need it? Maybe the paths of the nine Tier 9s is not fit for her, and if she wants to take the easy path to Tier 9, she would have to start all over.'
'It might also be because the limit of the Grimoire is Tier 9, and to reach higher Tiers would become extremely difficult.'
'Or maybe it's just because the book is an evil and dangerous book.'
Anon shook his head slightly as he decided to push such matters to the back of his mind.
What Anon did not know was that the some of the individuals that were bidding for the Codex were not bidding on it for themselves.
They were bidding for the Codex for their respective organizations.
All of them were already on their respective paths to power, the paths that was meant for them.
To change their path for a sure path to Tier 9 meant they would have to start from the beginning and restructure their entire being.
Doing this was extremely dangerous because they could become completely different beings with different personalities and maybe even memories, and for some of these prideful individuals, this was unacceptable to them.
Some of these individuals were geniuses, and they genuinely believed that they could become Immortals with their own power, thereby cementing their own legacy.
So to take the path of a dead Tier 9 or nine dead Tier 9s was completely unacceptable to some of them.
For these set of people with this mindset, they wished to purchase the Codex for their respective organizations.
If their organizations could nurture a Tier 0 to take the path of one of the Nine Tier 9s or the path of the nine Tier 9s, then their organization would soar to greater heights.
The addition of another Tier 9 to their organization would increase the reputation and might of their organization.
The Codex was not the first living grimoire that had the path of an Immortal in it.
There have been cases of ancient artifacts or grimoires possessing the path to high tiers of power, and those who possessed these artifacts or grimoires were able to advance in a short period of time.
Although some of these artifacts or grimoires were not as powerful as the Codex because they were either created by a Tier 8 or a Tier 7.
Those who knew this knew that the Codex was extremely rare and powerful because never has there been an artifact or grimoire that had the path of nine Tier 9s.
It was extremely strange and rare.
However, this was another reason why the desire and price for the Codex was extremely high.
The time it would take for an individual without a guide like the Codex to reach Tier 9 would be extremely long compared to an individual with a guide like the Codex.
'And this is just the fourth item to be auctioned?'
'How rich is Calista for her to even be auctioning a Living Grimoire that's made by nine Tier 9s?'
Anon glanced at Calista for a few seconds before shifting his gaze to the room of the Temple of Flames.
To his surprise and bafflement, the Temple of Flames made no bid on the Codex.
It was extremely baffling to Corey because every other organization in the higher seats had at least made a single bid for the Codex.
In fact, at the moment, it was only the three empires, the Celestial Spirit Empire, the Mortal Empire, and the Supreme God Empire that was battling for the Codex.
Of all the organizations in the Underworld, they were the only ones that could afford to spend so much without it affecting the foundation of their Empire.
The price of the Codex had reached a staggering 50 Immortal Shards.
50 Immortal Shards was equivalent to 50 billion Mystic Crystals, which is equivalent to 50 quadrillion Astral Stones, which is equal to 5 sextillion gold coins.
'I only have a million gold coins.'
Anon's lips twitched as he remembered his wealth.
"55 Immortal Shards." The Celestial Spirit Empire.
"56 Immortal Shards." The Mortal Empire.
"57 Immortal Shards." The Celestial Spirit Empire.
"60 Immortal Shards." The Supreme God Empire.
"61 Immortal Shards." The Mortal Empire.
The Celestial Spirit Empire backed out the moment the Supreme God Empire raised the bid to 60 Immortal Shards.
Anon and the others watched as the Mortal Empire and the Supreme God Empire continued bidding for the Codex.
It reminded them of the final of the tournament of the Battle of Chosens.
The Mortal Empire won the Battle of Chosens, but would they be able to win once against the Supreme God Empire for the Codex?
Anon and the others were curious.
