Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Cultivation
After 1,500 thrusts, Dongbo Xueying was completely drenched in sweat.
His right arm felt numb, almost as if it no longer belonged to him.
His five fingers had lost all sensation, and by the end, he had relied solely on willpower to reach 1,500 thrusts.
"Water…" Xueying's voice was hoarse.
"Young master, water!"
A nearby servant, who had been watching in shock, rushed forward with a cup.
Xueying reached out with his left hand, grabbed the large cup, and drained it in one go.
But he didn't stop there.
Immediately, he began practicing "Flame Three-Step Method" again!
As he cultivated, his entire body tingled, particularly in his right arm and hand.
It was as if the mysterious energy of the world was burrowing into his worn-out muscles.
The more exhausted he was, the greater the effect of his Dou Qi cultivation!
Of course, there was a limit—pushing too hard could cripple his body.
For an ordinary person, training as fiercely as Xueying would mean permanent damage within ten days.
But he had an advantage—
He soaked in a medicinal bath every night, an extravagance so costly that a regular noble family would go bankrupt after a year of such treatments!
After cycling through the technique three times, the absorption effect weakened.
By now, his left arm felt fully recovered, while his right hand still had some lingering soreness.
"Time to train with my left hand."
Xueying's eyes gleamed with determination as he stared at the alchemic training dummy ahead.
He loosely gripped the spear with his right hand, while his left hand firmly grasped the spear's tail—
And then—
"Thrust!"
Meanwhile…
"Tong San, have you seen Xueying?"
"No, I haven't."
Zong Ling and Tong San exchanged surprised looks.
It was nearly lunchtime, yet there had been no sign of Xueying.
With Dongbo Lie and Moyang Yu having just been taken away, they were especially worried about him.
"Where is the young lord?"
Zong Ling and Tong San questioned a maid.
"The master has been in the training ground since morning," the maid replied immediately.
"Still in the training ground? It's almost noon!"
Tong San was shocked.
"Normally, Xueying only trains for one or two hours in the morning. It's been nearly three hours now!"
Zong Ling didn't speak. Instead, he hurried toward the training ground.
As they approached, they could already hear the sounds coming from inside.
"Bang!" "Bang!" "Bang!"
The deep, forceful impacts echoed in the air.
Zong Ling and Tong San exchanged glances, then pushed open the gate to the training grounds.
"This…!"
Both of them were stunned.
In the center of the training field, a young boy with reddened skin was gripping a long spear with both hands, repeatedly slamming it against an alchemic dummy.
His waist generated power, transferring it into the spear as it whipped through the air before striking down with maximum force.
Strike after strike—
Every movement was precise and relentless.
The boy's entire body was flushed red, and steam rose from his skin, a result of intense blood circulation.
"His blood flow has reached such an extreme level?"
Zong Ling was shocked.
"Xueying! Stop! You need to rest! Are you trying to kill yourself?!"
Tong San grew anxious.
He had never seen Xueying train with such intensity before.
This level of practice was pushing his body to its absolute limit.
"Just a little more! I'm not done yet," Xueying said.
"Let him be," Zong Ling sighed.
"He takes a medicinal bath every night. His body won't collapse. Let him work through this."
Despite his calm words, Zong Ling was deeply worried.
He wasn't afraid of physical injury—the medicinal bath could heal those.
What he feared… was that Xueying's mind and personality might change forever.
He had watched Xueying grow up.
He didn't want to see him become someone unrecognizable.
Xueying glanced at his uncles and smiled.
"Uncle Zong, Uncle Tong, don't worry. I'm fine."
He wasn't just venting his emotions—
This was part of the training plan he had designed for himself after studying the Extraordinary Knight's spear technique manual.
Without relentless effort, how could he ever become strong?
Afternoon Training
After another cup of tea's time, Xueying finished his practice session with two additional cycles of "Flame Three-Step Method", ending his morning training.
After lunch, he spent time with his little brother, then—
Back to training.
"Hah!"
With a powerful thrust, Xueying drove his spear forward, pouring every ounce of strength from his body into the motion.
The impact force was noticeably stronger than before!
He repeatedly stabbed the alchemic dummy, targeting the marked weak points:
FaceThroatChest
This was the fourth stage of his training plan—
"Double-Handed Thrusts!"
After two thousand thrusts, he shifted into cultivating Dou Qi.
Then—
"Archery training!" Xueying commanded.
"Yes, young master!"
Ten servants stood ten meters away, each holding a bow.
Their arrows had no metal tips, leaving only blunt wooden shafts.
Even so, the servants hesitated, exchanging nervous glances.
In the past, Xueying's father personally supervised his blocking training.
Now, they were being ordered to fire arrows directly at him…
If he failed to block them, the arrows would strike his body.
Even without arrowheads, they could still cause painful bruises and even break skin.
The servants were worried.
"Hurry up! Follow my orders!" Xueying shouted.
The servants obeyed.
"Whoosh!"
The first arrow flew toward him.
Xueying held his long spear and instantly deflected it—
A single controlled movement sent the arrow spinning away.
At first, he blocked them one at a time.
Even though the distance was short, the servants had no Dou Qi—
Their arrows were fast, but Xueying could still react in time.
He began perfecting his technique, skillfully integrating:
Blocking (Parry)Intercepting (Catch)Deflecting (Redirect)
Then—
Two arrows were fired at the same time.
Now, things became difficult.
Even with ten attempts, three to four arrows still struck him.
His skin turned red and bruised, and occasionally, the arrows broke through his skin.
But Xueying didn't care about minor injuries.
Mastering the Basics
"Heart Intent Spear Technique" was the foundation of all spear arts.
However—
Simply repeating fixed patterns over and over was useless.
To truly master it, he had to break it down into individual techniques and refine them separately.
Only through relentless repetition could basic techniques become terrifyingly powerful.
His training program consisted of six phases:
Left-hand thrustsRight-hand thrustsSweeps, swings, and strikesDouble-handed thrustsBlocking and deflectingFree-form combat training
Between sessions, he cultivated Dou Qi to recover from fatigue—
Otherwise, he wouldn't last through such intense training.
A Grueling Routine
Each day, Xueying trained for six full hours.
Afterward, he would soak in a medicinal bath.
The bath not only healed his body but actually strengthened it.
His muscles, bones, and tendons, particularly in his arms and hands, were constantly evolving and growing stronger.
Evening Time
The nights were for rest—
Dinner with his little brotherPlaying with QingshiReading booksSleeping early
At a glance, it seemed exhausting.
But in reality—
It was no different from a commoner's hard labor.
Once he got used to it, it became normal.
And—
He could feel himself improving every day.
His spear skills were advancing at an astonishing pace.
His body was growing stronger and more resilient.
Rather than feeling tired—
He actually enjoyed it.
Often, while practicing, Xueying would smile to himself.
Other times, he would pause, lost in deep thought, trying to understand the mysteries of spear combat.
His rapid progress was shocking.
Two Years Later—Winter.
Snow fell heavily from the sky.
A young warrior, tall and imposing, held a black long spear, practicing thrusting techniques.
In front of him, a servant held a shield, the surface thickly wrapped in beast hide and cotton padding.
Despite its bulky appearance, the extra layers were necessary—
Without them, the servants wouldn't be able to withstand the force of his strikes.
The servant dodged left and right, trying to evade.
But in an instant—
Xueying struck!
His spear moved like a swimming dragon, twisting as it pierced forward with a sharp whistling sound.
BANG!
The spear tip slammed into the shield, sending a tremor through the servant's entire body.
Even though this was just a thrust, the servant knew—
When Xueying swung or struck, the power was even more terrifying.
"Master, I just can't dodge it!"
The burly servant grimaced in frustration.
Xueying smiled.
"If any of you manage to dodge once, you'll earn a silver coin. Keep practicing."
The surrounding servants' eyes gleamed with eagerness.
A single silver coin was equal to a full month's wages!
In the early days, some had managed to successfully evade his attacks occasionally—
Over time, Xueying had handed out several hundred silver coins.
But now?
Dodging even once had become nearly impossible.
"My spear technique… hasn't improved in days."
Xueying frowned slightly.
He felt like he had hit a bottleneck in his raw power output.
"According to the manual left by the Frost Knight…
Should I start practicing 'Retracting Force'?"
Mastery of power wasn't just about releasing it—
Control was just as important.
Suddenly—
"Master! Master! Something terrible has happened!"
A panic-stricken maid rushed into the training grounds, breathless and flustered.
Xueying's heart clenched at her urgent tone.
"What happened?!" He demanded.
"It's Lord Zong Ling! He's badly injured! There's so much blood!"
"Uncle Zong!"
Dongbo Xueying was shocked.
For the past two years, Uncle Zong had handled all the affairs of the territory, allowing him to focus entirely on mastering his spear techniques without distractions.
"Where is Uncle Zong now?!"
"He's at his residence! Commander Tong is there as well!" the maid answered quickly.
Without hesitation, Xueying dropped his spear and sprinted toward Uncle Zong's residence.
