Chapter 5 Song Yinzhuang Successfully Removes Her Name from the Entertainers’ Register
“Big Sister!”
Upon seeing Zhao Pan’er approaching, Song Yinzhuang hurried forward to greet her. Zhao Pan’er, seeing Song Yinzhuang safe and sound, finally felt a sense of relief.
She hadn’t seen Song Yinzhuang during the wedding, so she had suspected that Gao Hui had detained her to ensure she obediently went through with the marriage. Now that the wedding was over, Song Yinzhuang had finally returned. She had been worried that Gao Hui wouldn’t keep her word.
“Is this my brother-in-law?”
Song Yinzhuang glanced at Gao You, who was standing behind Zhao Pan’er. Gao You simply smiled in greeting.
“Yinping!”
Song Yinzhuang turned to Yinping and remarked, “This kind of looks could rank among the top even in Qiantang!”
“Much more handsome than Ouyang Xu!”
Yinping nodded enthusiastically.
“Exactly!”
“Those so-called famous young masters outside can’t even compare to Brother-in-law!”
Zhao Pan’er frowned at them.
“You can’t choose a husband based on looks alone!”
“But being handsome isn’t a flaw either!”
Song Yinzhuang instinctively retorted. Zhao Pan’er chuckled—at the very least, her husband was good-looking. The three women chattered as they made their way to the teahouse. Meanwhile, Gao You was seated at a table in the front hall.
In the back kitchen, Zhao Pan’er and the others began discussing, and soon the topic shifted to Gao You’s earlier expression of gratitude.
“So, that means Gao You isn’t actually foolish?”
Sun Sanniang frowned at Zhao Pan’er.
“If he can express thanks, it means he understands courtesy!”
Just then, an idle Gao You walked in and interjected, “Being reserved doesn’t mean being foolish!”
“Huh?”
The women all turned to look at him. Gao You intended to portray a person of normal intelligence but socially withdrawn—mainly to avoid troublesome societal expectations.
But being mistaken for an imbecile by his own family? That needed to be corrected.
Being reserved doesn’t mean being foolish?
The statement was like a thunderclap, stunning Zhao Pan’er and the others into silence. A fool definitely wouldn’t say something so profound.
This meant that while Gao You might appear slow-witted, he actually wasn’t.
“Pan’er!”
Sun Sanniang looked at her excitedly. She had been worried that Zhao Pan’er had married a fool who would burden her for life. Now that she realized Gao You was far better than expected, she was overjoyed!
“Gao Lang, what kind of tea do you like?”
Zhao Pan’er smiled at him. Gao You casually pointed to the most well-hidden tea package. “That one!”
“You’ve got good taste!”
Sun Sanniang gave him a thumbs-up. Gao You ignored her and turned back to the front hall.
“Pan’er, your life is looking up!”
Sun Sanniang grinned at Zhao Pan’er.
Zhao Pan’er nodded and picked up the Lingyin Buddha Tea package.
“This tea costs ten taels per year!”
“If he drinks it twice more, it’ll be gone for good!”
Now certain that Gao You was intelligent, the mood in the back kitchen lightened significantly. Meanwhile, Gao You opened his system interface and clicked on the sign-in button.
[Congratulations! You have obtained Divine-Level Painting Skills!] [Ding! Detecting that the host already possesses Master-Level Painting Skills—upgrading to Divine-Level!]
As the system notification sounded, Gao You closed his eyes and entered a dream state. In his dream, he spent countless years tirelessly honing his artistic skills, ultimately reaching a transcendent level of mastery.
When he awoke, only a few breaths had passed. Yet, he realized that his painting abilities had skyrocketed beyond imagination.
“Brother-in-law, time to eat!”
Song Yinzhuang came running over, calling him to breakfast. Gao You nodded and followed her to a large table. Breakfast consisted of two simple cold dishes and a seafood porridge that had been simmering for some time.
“Yinping, serve me a bowl of porridge!”
Suddenly, Ouyang Xu’s voice rang out. Zhao Pan’er and the others all looked up at him simultaneously.
“Young Master Ouyang, we are not open yet!”
Zhao Pan’er’s voice was distant and cold. Ouyang Xu felt his heart sink. But he had mentally prepared for this and forced a smile. “I’m not here for tea.”
“If you’re not here for tea, then please leave!”
Zhao Pan’er stood up and directly asked him to go.
Ouyang Xu chuckled.
“Pan’er, you can’t treat family this way!”
“Who is your family?”
Zhao Pan’er frowned, her gaze full of disgust.
Sun Sanniang chimed in, “Ouyang Xu, can you stop disgusting people?”
“Pan’er has already suffered enough because of you!”
“What more do you want?”
Ouyang Xu sighed.
“Sanniang, I truly had no choice!”
“Get out!”
Zhao Pan’er’s eyes were icy as she roared, “You are not welcome here!”
Ouyang Xu glanced at Song Yinzhuang. “Yinzhuang, are you not going to say something?”
“After all, I am your brother!”
The others turned their eyes to Song Yinzhuang. She scratched her head awkwardly.
“Yesterday, he did acknowledge me as his sworn sister in front of Magistrate Xu…”
“That’s why Magistrate Xu helped me get removed from the entertainers’ register!”
“Sister!”
Song Yinzhuang hurriedly explained, “I truly didn’t know he was forcing you to marry!”
“If I had known, I would never have accepted, even if it meant staying registered forever!”
Ouyang Xu ignored her words and continued looking at Zhao Pan’er.
“Pan’er!”
“Magistrate Xu only helped with the delisting because of our supposed family connection!”
“If you fall out with me now…”
“Magistrate Xu won’t blame me!”
“But you all will have to remain in Qiantang, and if you anger the magistrate…”
