Sonic X Fairy Tail

Chapter 9: Nirvana is Active!!

Nirvana is active!!

1 hour after our fight with Racer.

We managed to find Hibiki's group, and Lucy was in bad shape. She had fought Angel, a celestial spirit mage and a member of Oración Seis. According to Hibiki, they even saw Lucy's chest during the fight. Honestly, I'd have liked to see that myself, though usually, I just spy on her through her bedroom window. Natsu, on the other hand, was supposed to join us after Hibiki transmitted the path directly to his brain using his magic.

After hours of waiting, Natsu arrived, and Wendy had woken up. She immediately started healing Erza, placing her hands above the wound and emitting a green light. In no time, the wound was gone, and Erza stood up. We were all relieved, but Erza sensed a familiar presence and decided to investigate.

As we were about to split up, I remembered I had some unfinished business. That's when my eyes met Wendy and Carla's. The others were starting to walk away.

Natsu: "Are you three coming?"

Me: "Go ahead, we'll catch up."

There was no need to hold her back—she already knew we needed to talk. Maybe she remembered what had happened.

Me: "Wendy, Carla, before anything else, I want to apologize. I'm sorry for not listening to you that day and for not coming back afterward. I shouldn't have abandoned you, especially after promising we'd stay together."

I lowered my head, clenching my fists in frustration. I was so ashamed I couldn't even look at them.

Wendy's POV

I couldn't believe it—all those memories we shared. Why had I forgotten them? And why was he apologizing? It wasn't his fault; he was just trying to do the right thing. Before he could continue, I interrupted him.

Me: "Sonic… You were such an idiot!!"

He looked up at me, wide-eyed. Carla also seemed surprised.

Me: "Yes, you were so stupid to leave that day! You were so foolish to abandon us! But I know it wasn't your fault. You were trying to do the right thing. And honestly, I should be the one apologizing. After that lightning strike, I had trouble remembering you. I also wonder why the Master never talked about you again. I shouldn't have forgotten you like that. I… I'm not even sure I deserve you if I couldn't remember the person I love."

Tears started streaming down my face.

Carla: "No, Wendy, don't be sad. It's not your fault, either. You couldn't have known."

Sonic began wiping my tears. I hadn't realized he had moved closer. He held my face with both hands and shifted into his human form.

Sonic: "Wendy, I may have failed my mission, but one thing I promised will never change—I don't want to see you cry."

(Sonic pressed his forehead against mine and closed his eyes.)

Sonic: "I know you were without me, but I'm at least happy you had Carla and that you improved your healing abilities."

Me: "I'm also happy you became the powerful mage you always wanted to be."

Sonic released me and knelt before me and Carla.

Sonic: "I know it's a lot to ask, but will you forgive me? I know I might not deserve a second chance, but…"

Before he could finish, I threw my arms around his neck, crying, with Carla joining me.

Wendy: "Yes, I forgive you, and I'm sorry."

Carla: "What's important is that we're together again."

Sonic looked into my eyes, and my heart began to race. I could feel he was about to say something I had always wanted to hear.

Sonic: "Do you remember, before I left, you wanted to tell me something, but I interrupted you?"

Me (blushing intensely): "Uh… yes."

Suddenly, he covered Carla's ears, visibly embarrassed to say it in front of her. It was adorable.

Sonic: "I love you, Wendy. Will you be my girlfriend?"

A moment of silence lasted almost a minute. Those words echoed in my head. My face was redder than a tomato. I didn't know what to say. I had been waiting for this moment, but I didn't expect it to happen now. After catching my breath, I finally answered:

Me: "Yes, I love you so much, Sonic."

(Sonic uncovered Carla's ears. He was blushing so much that the tips of his spines turned red—it was so cute.)

Carla: "What? What happened? Why did you cover my ears? Wendy, what did he say to you?"

Me (hiding my face in my hands): "Uh, nothing special, don't worry, Carla."

Carla (growing more suspicious): "No, really, what did he say? Sonic, what did you do?"

Sonic (grinning): "Oh, nothing important. We should get going."

He extended his hand to help me up. I was so happy—I'd reunited with the person who made me the happiest girl in the world.

Sonic's POV

I was really happy to have reunited with Wendy and Carla, but the mission was still not over. I started running to get ahead of the others.

[Time Skip]

A bright light began shining toward the sky. A mix of white and black light rose into the air, due to Nirvana being activated by Jellal after his reunion with Erza. Jellal claimed to have lost his memory. On our side, we were heading toward the light after Hibiki explained that the light would have opposite effects on our behavior if we were at the border between good and evil. I didn't quite understand what he meant, but I knew I wasn't the type to lean toward evil.

We had separated from Erza, and as we got closer to the light, we heard Brain's voice.

Brain: "Finally, thanks to Jellal, the lost magic 'Sky' is reborn from its ashes."

Thinking about it, it's true that Wendy healed Jellal. I stopped calling him Mistogan after I learned what had happened at the Tower of Heaven. It still surprised me that my first friend had become a criminal.

Me: "Hey, what will happen if we go into the light? Maybe there's a switch inside."

Hibiki: "It would be unwise to venture near it with all that magic coming from it. It's both good and bad. We'd better find Brain and stop him."

I felt a dark aura behind me, and when I turned around, I saw it was coming from Wendy's body!

Wendy (crying): "This is all my fault. If I hadn't healed Jellal, he wouldn't have activated Nirvana."

Carla: "Wendy, don't be sad. You did what seemed right to you."

Hibiki: "Oh no, not this! She's on the edge between good and evil. If we don't do something, her state could worsen."

What did that even mean? Could she become evil? I couldn't picture her like that, and I knew it wouldn't happen. I had an idea, though I wasn't sure it would bring her back to her senses. But forget it, I was going for it.

I ran toward her, and I was about to do something I never expected to do in front of everyone. Everyone was stunned into silence when my lips pressed against Wendy's in a kiss. She stared at me, eyes wide open, while I closed my eyes in embarrassment. I could barely look at her.

Lucy had both hands over her mouth. Natsu and the others had their mouths hanging open. Wendy was turning redder by the second, and smoke was coming out of her head.

As soon as I pulled away, I saw Wendy, brighter than a tomato, fainting without me even catching her. The rest of the group was still in shock, and everything around us was silent.

Me (clearing my throat): "Well, problem solved. Let's go."

I started walking ahead quickly to avoid the awkwardness.

Natsu (finally snapping out of it): "WHAT DID YOU DO?!"

Happy: "Love is so beautiful!"

Me: "Well, I had to bring her back to the right path, right? Well, that's done. She's no longer in danger. You're welcome."

Just then, an earthquake shook the ground, and we felt something stirring beneath us. The light in the sky stopped. Was that the signal that the spell had been activated?

[Several hours later, at sunset.]

We decided to split up. Carla and I were with Wendy, who was still unconscious. We had placed her on a hill, staying back for the moment. The others kept going ahead. Carla was still scolding me for what happened that day, but it was at that moment that Wendy woke up.

Me: "Did you sleep well?"

Wendy: "How long was I asleep?"

Carla: "Two hours."

Wendy: "And the others?"

Me: "They decided to keep going while we waited for you to wake up."

Just then, another earthquake rumbled. This time, something started rising from multiple spots in the ground. It was so large that we couldn't even tell what it was.

Me: "I think we should get to higher ground. Carla, take Wendy."

Carla: "What about you?"

Me: "Don't worry, I'll manage."

At that moment, Carla lifted Wendy into the air, and I began running. Using the debris falling from the rising structure, I jumped to climb higher. From there, I could see the buildings that were in the shape of a castle rising. I made it to Wendy and Carla, who were still climbing. I was running on a tower's debris while they passed through. I jumped high into the air and was able to spot a city-like structure with giant legs. I didn't have time to be amazed because there were no more pieces of debris to help me get higher. I started falling, losing altitude when suddenly, I felt a hand grab me. It was Wendy and Carla. They helped me to a dome, where they let me land softly.

Just as I thought, it was an ancient city, elevated on giant legs. You could almost say it was like a spider.

Wendy: "So this is Nirvana? A city?"

Me: "I don't think Oración Seis would go through all this just for a city. There's probably something inside that interests them."

As the sunset approached, I knew that by nightfall, I would transform into a hedgehog-werewolf. I would be faster, but my strength would match Natsu's. We had to act quickly.

Looking at one of the legs, I saw smoke rising toward the city. It looked like someone was running really fast. Jet wasn't there, so I already knew who it was.

Me (smiling): "Well, looks like we were faster than the others." (I pointed to the smoke, which turned out to be Natsu, Lucy, and Gray coming toward us.)

Erza wasn't with them. She was probably somewhere else. I hoped she was okay.
