The reason isn't simply that Spirit Hall's destruction ended their lineage.

Given the scale of Douluo Continent and the number of spirit masters, it's impossible that only a few top-tier martial spirits ever emerged.

First, development isn't solely about individual ability. Competing interests mean other powers may not want another family rising to divide resources.

Second, the inherent instability of certain martial spirits makes them difficult to pass down.

Take the Flame Lord, for example.

A Flame Lord spirit master's offspring wouldn't necessarily inherit the Flame Lord. More likely, their children would inherit a weakened derivative, such as a "Flame Sprite," a high-quality martial spirit. If the Flame Sprite spirit master fails to grow strong before having children, the spirit could degrade further into something like a "Tiny Flame Sprite."

Why? Because the genes of the original Flame Lord spirit master are unstable.

The Clear Sky Hammer and Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon are considered the top tool and beast martial spirits because their "genes" have stabilized. They consistently produce offspring with high- to top-quality martial spirits. Those who reach nine rings and achieve the Title Douluo rank can often wield martial spirits with super-tier strength.

In contrast, martial spirits like the Flame Lord or Golden Crocodile, while promising as top-tier martial spirits, lack this stability. It would take generations of consistent Title Douluo-level spirit masters passing down their bloodlines to stabilize the mutation factor and achieve something akin to the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon's family-wide uniformity.

Thus, "the best" martial spirits are not necessarily the strongest in raw power but those that can most reliably produce "top-quality" heirs.

As mentioned earlier, You Chen was a genius, not omniscient.

The beastification and mutation issues faced by certain spirit masters arose from imbalances between their bloodline's strength and their physical and spiritual capacity to contain it, leading to malignant abnormalities.

You Chen's ability to resolve these issues was largely thanks to his specialization in martial spirit origins and the triadic cultivation system of essence, energy, and spirit.

His expertise made the problem solvable. Otherwise, he wouldn't have so easily chosen to establish the Soul-Battle Beasts—unless you think he went to all this trouble just to fulfill a personal desire for beast-girl maids!

Moreover, because these beastification-prone spirit masters were burdened by overly potent bloodlines, their talents were generally superior. Once You Chen resolved their issues, their cultivation paths became significantly smoother than ordinary spirit masters.

From this perspective, the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon family's refusal to recognize Liu Erlong as a member or add her to their lineage was likely a calculated move to preserve the stability of their bloodline—or "genes."

Some might argue that merging with a Fire Dragon martial spirit wouldn't necessarily weaken the bloodline and might even enhance it.

But for the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon, already the top beast martial spirit, was further enhancement necessary? Clearly not.

Rather than risk mutation, they prioritized stability and non-degradation.

Fire Dragon martial spirits are comparable in strength to the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon, and there was a genuine risk that their genetic strength could dominate, producing Fire Dragon spirit masters instead.

If such outcomes occurred even once or twice, the bloodline would be irreversibly "polluted."

This is why the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon family was open to unions with weaker dragon-variant martial spirits but adamantly excluded Liu Erlong.

And now, another Fire Dragon spirit master stood before You Chen...

Snapping out of his reverie, You Chen nodded slightly at Ignis. "As a reward for volunteering as a test subject, if you successfully advance to Spirit Ancestor and demonstrate Spirit King-level combat strength, you will become the first Beast Sovereign—Dragon Sovereign—of the Soul-Battle Beasts."

Ignis's head shot up, her bright eyes brimming with hope and determination.

The gathered Soul-Battle Beasts cast envious, admiring, or resentful glances at her.

Within the Soul-Battle Beasts organization, aside from You Chen as their leader, there were only three defined ranks.

While the Beast Soldiers had hierarchical roles like squad leaders and subordinates, these distinctions only applied during missions. Disputes weren't resolved by rank but mediated by the Beast Handler or ultimately judged by You Chen.

Beast Sovereigns, however, stood apart.

The twelve Beast Sovereigns constituted the organization's governing class with the authority to directly judge and rule.

Even more enticing was the unique privilege bestowed upon the first of any species to attain Sovereign status: they could request one wish from You Chen, provided it didn't endanger him or the organization.

This promise stirred fervent ambition among the Soul-Battle Beasts.

"If Ignis can become a Beast Sovereign, so can we!"
