Chapter 406: All The Vanguard Ships have been taken down
"Vanguard Ship is beginning to crack," the scanner officer reported.
"Stay the course," the captain ordered.
"Roger."
Suddenly, a burst of light erupted from the surface of the planet.
"Detecting a large explosion," the sensor officer warned.
"The scout ship!" the scanner officer exclaimed.
"Ghost-13, status report," the captain demanded.
"Taking heavy fire!" the pilot reported, his voice strained.
"Zerg Fighters are converging on their location," the sensor officer warned.
"Frigate 13, support the scout ship," the captain commanded.
"Frigate 13, en route," the frigate captain responded.
As the frigate began to change course, the scout ship was caught in a vicious crossfire. It had no hope of escaping, and the only thing it could do was try to shield itself.
"We can't last much longer," the pilot warned.
"Ghost-13, eject your payload and return to the fleet," the captain ordered.
"Roger. Ejecting payload."
"Frigate 13, pick up the scout ship," the captain commanded.
"Picking up the scout ship," the frigate captain acknowledged.
"All units, return to formation," the captain instructed.
"Scout-3, providing cover fire," the pilot acknowledged.
The remaining warships returned to the fleet, and the damaged Ghost-13 was safely recovered.
"Status report?" the captain asked.
"Scout ship sustained moderate damage. Payload is intact," the first officer reported.
"Frigate 13 took some minor hits. No casualties," the frigate captain added.
"Reconnaissance Cruiser 5, hull integrity is holding," the Reconnaissance Cruiser captain said.
"Very well," the captain replied.
"Target is nearly destroyed," the scanner officer reported.
"Let's finish it," the captain ordered.
The three warships fired their weapons, the combined energy beams tearing through the weakened structure. Within moments, the Vanguard Ship was ripped apart, its pieces falling onto the barren planet below.
"Mission accomplished," the captain declared.
"Returning to fleet," the scout ship pilot acknowledged.
As the warships rejoined the fleet, a sense of relief washed over the crew. The threat had been eliminated, and the system was safe.
"Ships, report," the captain ordered.
"All ships have sustained various degrees of damage, but we should be able to repair it in a few days," the officer replied.
"Okay then, let's head home," the captain decided.
In another sector of deep space, three Xu family cruiser fleets were locked in battle against two massive Zerg Vanguard Ships.
The void was ablaze, filled with explosions, energy bursts, and monstrous Zerg projectiles that tore through space like acidic meteors.
The captain of the lead cruiser barked orders, his eyes scanning the chaotic battlefield.
"Redirect power to shields! Frigates, move to intercept enemy fire!"
The Zerg ships were larger and more evolved than the ones the other fleet had faced. Their defenses were thicker, their weapons deadlier, and their swarm of fighters relentless.
However, the Xu family fleet did not go down without a fight.
They pushed forward, their guns blazing, their shields sparking with each impact.
"Status report," the captain demanded.
"We're slowly killing them off, but as we do not have much info on these new Zergs, we are a bit blind," the first officer replied.
"Well, let's find a weakness then," the captain ordered.
"Sir," the officer nodded.
At that moment, a barrage of Zerg projectiles slammed into the front shields, sending ripples of energy across the protective barrier.
"Shields are failing," the officer reported.
"Damn," the captain muttered.
"Keep pushing," he ordered.
"Sir."
The Xu family fleet continued its attack, their formations shifting and adapting to the changing battle.
The Zerg ships were resilient, but they weren't invincible. Slowly but surely, the Xu family ships began to wear them down.
"Status report," the captain asked.
"Both Zerg ships have taken heavy damage, but their numbers are still strong," the officer reported.
"I see."
"Should we switch to the long-range bombardment?" the officer asked.
"No, let's continue with the close-range combat," the captain replied.
"Aye, sir."
As the Xu family ships kept firing, the Zerg fighters swarmed around them, harrying their flanks.
"We're taking heavy damage," the officer reported.
"Maintain position," the captain commanded.
"Sir."
Finally, after a long and grueling battle, the Xu family fleet managed to destroy both Zerg ships, their massive forms exploding in a blaze of fire.
"Report," the captain said.
"The fleet has sustained heavy damage, but there are no fatalities," the officer replied.
"Good." The captain sighed in relief.
"Send out the drones and get started on the repairs," the captain ordered.
"Aye, sir."
After the Xu family fleet finished cleaning up the remains of the battle, they started their journey back to Nexara.
Similarly, the last two Zerg Vanguard ships were also located as two more fleets went to deal with the ships.
"Captain, we've received a transmission from the lead ship," the communications officer reported.
"Put it through," the captain instructed.
The main viewscreen displayed the video feed from the other side, the other captain staring back at him.
"We've eliminated both ships," the captain stated.
"Good job," the captain replied.
"Any losses?"
"None. The Zerg didn't get a chance to land a single blow," the other captain responded.
"Well done."
"We'll be heading back now," the other captain said.
"Yes, let's head home."
And so, the Xu family fleet finished its mission.
And as the last Vanguard ship was destroyed, the final obstacle between Nexara and the world upgrade was removed.
Back on Nexara, inside Xu Qianghua's study, he was sitting quietly, reading through some documents, and a jade transmission flickered into existence.
The fleet captain's voice came through, steady yet urgent.
"Sir, we have eliminated the final Zerg exploration ship."
"Well done."
Xu Qianghua put down the document.
"Any losses?"
"Negative," the fleet captain replied. "No casualties."
"Very well. You may return."
"Aye, sir."
With that, the transmission ended.
Xu Qianghua breathed a sigh of relief as he went through the plan in his mind again.
It was finally over.
The Xu family fleet had completed its mission and all the immediate threats have been cleared. The world upgrade was no longer at risk.
All the preparations had been made, and all the obstacles had been removed.
The time had come.
Nexara would finally undergo its World Upgrade.
