Chapter 196: Killing the Lions
Seeing its partner in danger, the Rockfang Lion roared in rage. It then charged at Little White, who barely managed to dodge, but the lion adjusted mid-air using the vine support and slammed into him with an [Earth Shatter Charge] skill.
The force sent Little White tumbling through the forest, crashing through several trees before he finally stopped himself with his claws.
Panting heavily, Little White shook off the pain and stood his ground, his silver eyes locked onto his opponent. He could feel his connection with Nix strengthening, their teamwork improving as they began predicting each other's movements.
Nix roared and dashed forward, coordinating with Little White without words. The moment he attacked, Little White moved in synchrony, striking from the opposite side. Their movements that were once clumsy and misaligned were now synchronized.
A deep rumble spread across the battlefield as the Rockfang Lion suddenly slammed its paws into the earth, sending shockwaves through the ground. Cracks formed beneath Nix and Little White, jagged stone spikes erupting upward in a deadly attempt to impale them.
At the same time, the Woodfang Lion roared as its body radiated an emerald glow. Vines that were as thick as tree trunks, erupted out from the ground, lashing toward the duo like living serpents.
This was their ultimate combination technique. The entire battlefield seemed to turn against Nix and Little White as the forest itself had become an extension of their enemies' will.
Nix spread his wings and took flight, narrowly avoiding the stone spikes that erupted beneath him. But the vines were relentless, stretching high into the sky, twisting and snaking after him.
Little White, relying on his superior agility, darted between the rising stone formations, slashing at the vines with his glowing silver claws.
"They're desperate," Cain observed from a distance as his gaze locked onto the battlefield.
He could feel the sheer intensity of the lions' final attack. But Nix and Little White had grown stronger throughout this battle, and he was confident in their victory.
Determined to finish this fight, Nix unleashed his [Ice Storm] skill at full power. The temperature plummeted as powerful gusts of frozen wind howled through the battlefield, turning the vines into brittle icicles that shattered upon impact.
The ground, once cracked and volatile, was coated in a thick layer of ice, slowing the Rockfang Lion's movements. But even as it struggled, the lion let out a guttural snarl and activated one final technique [Titan's Roar].
A thunderous shockwave exploded outward, shattering the ice around it and forcing Nix to retreat into the sky momentarily. The Rockfang Lion's body bulked up as its muscles grew denser, its fur turning into a hardened stone-like texture. It had sacrificed speed for pure, unrelenting strength.
At the same time, the Woodfang Lion's emerald glow intensified as it activated its healing skill. Its injuries rapidly healed, fresh layers of bark-like armor forming along its body.
Little White's silver eyes gleamed as he turned to Nix as if to say. "Now is the time to end this."
Nix only nodded his head in response.
Little White howled as his body shimmered under the evening light, activating his [Moonlight Empowerment] skill. A silvery aura enveloped him, his claws elongating into deadly crescent blades, his speed doubling as moonlight infused his entire body.
At the same time, Nix spread his wings wide, channeling all of his energy into one final attack.
Massive pillars of ice erupted around him, forming an intricate pattern in the sky. Countless massive jagged ice spikes hovered around him, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
The two lions lunged, their combined power threatening to crush everything in their path. But Little White was now moving faster than the eye could follow.
He weaved through their attacks, striking at their legs, joints, and vulnerable spots with such accuracy. Every slash left glowing silver wounds that sapped the lions' strength.
High above, Nix finally unleashed his finishing move. The sky itself seemed to crack as thousands of razor-sharp ice spears rained down like meteors.
Each spike was infused with devastating cold, capable of freezing even the toughest of foes in an instant.
The Rockfang Lion roared and tried to summon another [Titan's Roar] skill, but before it could release the shockwave, Little White struck its throat with the [Lunar Slash] skill, silencing it permanently.
The lion's eyes widened in horror as the first wave of ice spears impaled its hardened body, freezing it mid-motion.
The Woodfang Lion attempted to escape, vines shooting from the ground to propel itself away, but Nix would not let it.
A colossal ice spike, twice the size of the lion itself, descended with terrifying speed, piercing through its back and pinning it to the earth.
For a moment, everything was still.
CRACK!
The Rockfang Lion's petrified body shattered into countless frozen shards, its once-mighty frame now nothing but ice and dust. The Woodfang Lion let out a final, strangled growl before succumbing as its body turned into a crystalline monument of its last stand.
The battlefield that once teemed with chaos has fallen into silence now. The forest, now half-covered in frost, bore witness to the overwhelming strength of the victorious duo.
Nix and Little White stood side by side as their breath misted in the cold evening air, and their bodies were covered in wounds, yet their eyes shone with triumph.
"Well done. You two are finally starting to fight like a real team." Cain nodded in approval.
Roar!
Awoo!
Nix and Little White roared and howled in response before approaching Cain and the others.

Taking a glance at Nix and Little White's experiences, Cain was a little bit disappointed as he thought that it was too little.
However, after thinking about it for a few seconds, he realized that it actually made sense since their opponents' this time were actually not that strong, and their struggle before was because they lacked experience in a team fight.
Cain then decided to look for a stronger opponent where he was sure that Nix and Little White would struggle so much that they would experience fighting with their life on the line, as he guessed that the experience they would obtain would be much higher at that time.
…
While letting Nix and Little White have a rest and recuperation in the beast space, Cain searched in the surroundings for quite a while since he wanted to find a really strong duo of beasts this time around.
After detecting two beasts that he thought would be an extremely tough match for Nix and Little White, Cain immediately asked the crow to head east.
A few kilometers ahead in the quiet forest, two wolf-type beasts were having a feast below a huge tree as they were eating a massive dead body that Cain guessed to be a moose.
"Nix, Little White… Remember this! Your opponents this time are much harder than those two weak lions. So, prioritize your safety over anything else."
Roar!
Awoo!
Nix and Little White roared and howled in response while they announced their presence.
On one end, Nix and Little White stood side by side, their bodies taut with anticipation. Their previous battles had been difficult, but this was different. The two beasts before them were far more dangerous.
Opposite them, two large wolves loomed near the remnants of their feast. One was coated in jet-black fur that absorbed the light around it, its piercing red eyes gleaming with malice. The Dark Reaper Wolf.
The other one was the Light Reaper Wolf, standing beside it with its pristine white fur shimmering under the fading sunlight, golden eyes exuding an aura of cold calculation.
These were no ordinary beasts. Their movements were fluid and synchronized, their breaths perfectly timed as if they shared one mind.
A deep, guttural growl emanated from the Dark Reaper Wolf as it bared its fangs. The Light Reaper Wolf followed suit, the air around its body shimmering with condensed light energy.
Without warning, the two lunged forward in unison, moving so swiftly that their forms blurred into streaks of light and shadow.
Nix reacted instantly as he flapped his wings and launched himself into the air to avoid the sudden charge.
Little White, relying on his superior agility, sidestepped the Light Reaper Wolf's lunge and countered with a vicious swipe of his claws, aiming for its exposed side, but the attack never landed.
The Light Reaper Wolf twisted its body at the last second, the shimmering light around its form solidifying into a protective barrier.
Little White's claws slipped against the barrier, unable to pierce through, and in that moment of vulnerability, the Dark Reaper Wolf struck.
A blur of darkness surged behind Little White as the Dark Reaper Wolf materialized, its fangs bared in a predatory grin. Before he could react, a shadowy claw lashed out, raking across his side with terrifying force.
A pained howl tore from Little White's throat as he was sent sliding across the ground, deep gashes marking his silver fur.
"Little White!" Nix growled, his icy aura flaring as he retaliated. He twisted in the air and unleashed his [Ice Breath], a torrent of freezing wind rushing towards the Dark Reaper Wolf. The ground where the breath touched crystallized instantly, a jagged frost spreading rapidly.
