Star Wars: I’m in trouble !

Chapter 8: Chapter 8: A path

Kyl had expected his capture for some time now. The Jedi had been closing in, their presence more noticeable with each passing day. Yet, when the moment came, it was almost too easy. They had found him in one of Coruscant's underlevels, cornering him in an abandoned docking bay. There was no battle, no desperate chase—only a quiet surrender as he realized his options had run out.

Detainment and InterrogationThe Jedi Temple was more imposing than Kyl had imagined. Its vast halls carried an air of serenity, but beneath that, an unshakable authority. He was escorted through its corridors, past robed Jedi who eyed him with wary curiosity. Some whispered among themselves, their gazes flickering between him and the saber clipped to his belt.

He was placed in a circular chamber—bare, save for a central platform where he stood before a group of Jedi Masters. Mace Windu and Ki-Adi-Mundi were present, their expressions unreadable. Obi-Wan Kenobi stood slightly to the side, arms crossed. At the center of it all sat Master Yoda, his wise eyes fixed on Kyl.

"Tell us of this holocron," Mace Windu began, his voice firm but not unkind.

Kyl knew resistance would be pointless. He had no intention of lying—not when the Jedi already knew he possessed it. "It was an old Jedi holocron," he admitted. "I activated it by accident. Inside was the knowledge of a Jedi Master. She guided me, taught me how to wield the Force."

"And the knowledge within?" Ki-Adi-Mundi pressed.

Kyl hesitated. "Combat techniques, history… philosophy. It wasn't meant for Sith or Jedi—it was just knowledge."

Obi-Wan exchanged a glance with Mace Windu. "The holocron itself has no value to us now. Its knowledge, however, is of interest."

Kyl exhaled. "Then you don't need it. I didn't keep it."

Silence filled the chamber as the Jedi Masters deliberated. Kyl could feel their measured scrutiny, as if weighing his words against the Force itself. Finally, Master Yoda spoke.

"Lost, the holocron may be. But learned, much you have." He peered at Kyl, his gaze sharp yet filled with something that felt almost like understanding. "Questions, you have. Doubt, within you remains."

Kyl clenched his jaw but said nothing.

A Private Conversation with YodaThe council dismissed him, but as Kyl turned to leave, Yoda raised a hand. "Stay, you must."

The chamber emptied, leaving only Kyl and the small Jedi Master. Yoda studied him, tapping his gimer stick against the floor.

"Much conflict, I sense in you."

Kyl folded his arms. "You don't say."

Yoda's ears twitched slightly, but there was no reprimand. Instead, he gestured for Kyl to sit. Reluctantly, Kyl did.

"Power, you have found. Survival, you have mastered. But understand, do you, the path you walk?"

Kyl exhaled through his nose. "I've done what I had to. The Jedi talk about peace, but I've never had that luxury."

Yoda nodded slowly. "Peace, not given. Earned, it is. Discipline, it requires." He tapped his staff again. "Know of the old Jedi Code, do you?"

Kyl frowned. "I've read about it."

Yoda closed his eyes and recited:

"There is no ignorance, there is knowledge. There is no fear, there is serenity. There is no passion, there is peace. There is no chaos, there is harmony. There is no death, there is the Force."

The words hung in the air. Kyl shifted uncomfortably.

Yoda opened his eyes. "A Jedi, you do not yet claim to be. But your path, already shaping, it is."

Kyl exhaled. "What if I don't want to be either? Jedi or Sith?"

Yoda's eyes twinkled. "Then what, do you wish to be?"

Kyl hesitated. He had never been asked that before.

Integration into the Jedi OrderHe was placed under observation, though not as a prisoner. The Jedi wanted to test him, to understand his motives. Some remained skeptical—whispers of an outsider with questionable allegiances circulated. But when he was permitted to attend Force training, it became clear he wasn't just another stray.

Kyl excelled in every practical aspect. Telekinesis, agility, combat forms—he outpaced nearly all the Padawans, drawing the attention of Masters and students alike. He wasn't cocky about it, but he couldn't ignore how easily these abilities came to him.

Except for one area—meditation.

Sitting still, calming his mind, surrendering to the Force—it all felt unnatural. The lessons from the holocron had given him control, but letting go? That was something else entirely.

"Frustrating, is it not?" Yoda observed one evening as Kyl sat in the meditation chamber, restless.

Kyl rubbed his temples. "I don't see the point. I feel the Force better when I'm moving."

Yoda nodded. "Move, you do. But listen, do you?"

Kyl frowned. "I'm listening."

"Too hard, you try." Yoda chuckled. "Flow, the Force does. Not grasped, not taken—it is."

Kyl exhaled through his nose. He didn't have an answer.

A Confrontation with AnakinNot everyone was impressed by Kyl's talents. Anakin Skywalker had watched him from the sidelines, skepticism plain on his face. One afternoon, as Kyl trained in the dueling chamber, Anakin stepped forward.

"You learn fast," Anakin remarked, arms crossed. "Too fast."

Kyl deactivated his training saber. "Should I slow down?"

Anakin's expression hardened. "Speed isn't everything. Understanding is."

Kyl narrowed his eyes. "I understand more than you think."

Anakin stepped onto the mat, igniting his saber. "Then show me."

The duel was brief but intense. Anakin was fast, aggressive, and methodical. Kyl countered with fluidity, adapting to each of Anakin's strikes. The battle was nearly even—until Anakin pressed forward with a powerful strike that sent Kyl stumbling.

Anakin deactivated his saber. "You're skilled. But skill alone isn't enough."

Kyl exhaled sharply. "I'll keep that in mind."

A Defining ChoiceThat evening, Kyl stood on the Temple balcony, gazing over Coruscant's skyline. He had been running for so long, caught between forces greater than himself. But now, for the first time, he wasn't running.

Master Yoda's words echoed in his mind: Then what, do you wish to be?

He clenched his fist. He wasn't a Sith. He wasn't a lost survivor. Maybe he wasn't even a Jedi—yet. But if he stayed, if he tried, maybe he could become something greater.

The decision settled in his mind. He turned from the skyline, stepping back inside.

He was staying.
