Chapter 3: The Hidden Truth
Kaito's mind reeled as he tried to process what had just happened. He had been chosen for something, but what?
Astra's expression was serious. "We need to get out of here, now. The Voidborn will stop at nothing to claim you."
Kaito nodded, still trying to wrap his head around the situation. As they made their way back through the Celestial Nexus, Kaito couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.
They reached the portal that led back to Kaito's world, but as they stepped through, Kaito felt a strange sensation. It was as if they were being pulled off course.
The world around them began to distort and blur. Kaito's stomach lurched as they were hurtled through space and time.
When they finally emerged, Kaito found himself in a world that was familiar yet strange. The sky was a deep purple, and the trees were a vibrant green.
Astra's eyes scanned the horizon. "We're not in your world, Kaito. We're in a parallel dimension."
Kaito's mind reeled. "What? How is that possible?"
Astra's expression was grim. "The Voidborn have the power to manipulate reality. They must have created a rift in the fabric of space-time."
Kaito's eyes widened. "And we're trapped here?"
Astra nodded. "For now. But we need to find a way back to your world. The Voidborn will stop at nothing to claim you."
As they journeyed through the parallel dimension, Kaito began to notice strange occurrences. The creatures of this world seemed to be watching him, and the plants seemed to be responding to his presence.
Astra's eyes narrowed. "Kaito, I think you're more connected to this world than you realize."
Kaito's eyes widened. "What do you mean?"
Astra's expression was serious. "I think you're the key to unlocking the secrets of this dimension. And the Voidborn will stop at nothing to claim you."
Suddenly, the ground beneath them began to shake. The sky darkened, and a figure emerged from the shadows.
Kaito's eyes widened as he realized who it was. It was his father, or at least, a version of his father from this parallel dimension.
"Kaito," his father said, his voice filled with a mix of joy and sadness. "I've been waiting for you."
Kaito's mind reeled. What was going on? Why was his father here?
But before he could ask any questions, his father's expression turned serious.
"Kaito, you're in grave danger. The Voidborn will stop at nothing to claim you. You need to come with me, now."
Kaito's eyes met Astra's, and he saw the confusion and uncertainty there.
What was he supposed to do? Who could he trust?
The fate of the universe hung in the balance, and Kaito was the key.
But as he stood there, frozen with indecision, Kaito realized that he had a choice to make.
He could trust his father, or he could trust Astra.
But what if neither of them was telling the truth?
Kaito's father took a step closer, his eyes pleading. "Kaito, please. You have to trust me. I'm your father."
Astra's voice was firm. "Kaito, don't listen to him. He's not your real father. He's just a version of him from this dimension."
Kaito's mind reeled. What was he supposed to do?
But as he looked at his father, he saw something there that gave him pause. It was a deep sadness, a sense of loss that seemed to emanate from his very soul.
"Who are you?" Kaito asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
His father's eyes filled with tears. "I'm your father, Kaito. Or at least, I was. In this dimension, I made a different choice. I chose to stay with your mother, to protect you from the Voidborn."
Kaito's eyes widened. "What do you mean?"
His father took a deep breath. "In your world, I was killed by the Voidborn. But in this dimension, I survived. I've been waiting for you, Kaito. I've been waiting for a chance to make things right."
Kaito's mind reeled. What was he supposed to do?
But as he looked at his father, he saw something there that gave him hope. It was a sense of redemption, a chance to make things right.
"Okay," Kaito said, his voice firm. "I'll trust you. But you have to promise me one thing."
His father's eyes locked onto his. "Anything
