Chapter 248: Chapter 248: Striking First
The initial wave of attacks was still underway, with the combined enemy fleet, just ravaged by the first wave of missiles, now facing a web of laser fire and precision targeting from stardestroyer cannons.
"Orca, release all drones from our carriers for a suicide assault on enemy vessels. Mello, it's your turn," Hua Qin commanded.
"Roger that, Hua Qin. Watch me work," Mello replied with a grin as the nine T5 Mystic Birds, which had been shadowing the enemy, accelerated, splitting into groups of four and five to flank the rear of the enemy fleet.
At this moment, the enemy's vanguard was just exiting interstellar space, while the rear was still emerging. The initial missile, laser, and drone assaults had caused chaos across the fleet. Though a fleet of twenty-one starship squadrons wouldn't be heavily damaged by one wave, the disarray rippled from the front to the back of the formation, causing scattered focus among the fleet captains.
Suddenly, alarms blared across the control rooms of the ships on the rear flanks of the combined fleet.
"Alert! Radar detected multiple anti-matter annihilation missiles and proton torpedoes targeting the fleet. Shields up to full power and prepare for intercepts!"
Previously, Feng Mo had left five T5 Mystic Birds in place; with the arrival of the Beast Roar and Gale Fleets, an additional four Mystic Birds joined, forming a formidable group of nine T5 Mystic Birds and seven T5 Pegasi.
The nine T5 Mystic Birds unleashed a torrent of missiles—over a thousand T5 anti-matter annihilation missiles and four thousand proton torpedoes—that streaked toward the enemy's T5 ships. Despite the intercepting defenses, about forty percent of the missiles landed, with more than two thousand missiles ripping through the fleet's formation. The destructive power was tremendous, demolishing nearly two hundred T5 ships.
These two thousand missiles packed similar destructive power as the first wave of ten thousand missiles. While this wave alone could tear through any standard T5 ship, the Mystic Birds' true potency was yet to come, reserved for the decapitation strike.
The five thousand missiles caused a fresh wave of chaos among the rear ranks. Taking advantage of the disorder, the nine T5 Mystic Birds regrouped and scanned the enemy for three key T5 flagships.
The birds split into three groups of three, stealthily positioning themselves within optimal range. Mello gave the order, "Target the enemy flagships. Saturate them—T5 neutron missiles, fire!"
A thunderous command saw nine hundred T5 neutron missiles unleashed, with three hundred missiles aimed at each flagship. Since flagships are typically surrounded by other ships, Mello issued a saturation command to cover the entire area.
Just as the enemy commanders began recovering from the initial assault, they watched the radar screen in dismay as green dots—representing their ships—vanished. Although prepared for losses, the sight of these blips winking out elicited visible pain in the officers.
But there was no time to mourn, as another alarm echoed through the comms.
"Alert! Radar has detected multiple T5 neutron missiles locked onto our flagships!"
After Mello's previous missile salvo, the shields on none of the flagships remained at full strength. Faced with the lock-on warning, the officers were nearly paralyzed. Without the advanced interception capabilities of the Storm Fleet's bio-ships or the protective shielding of T6 Iron Dragons, they were helpless.
Nine hundred T5 neutron missiles streaked down, igniting space with shockwaves and fiery plumes, illuminating the entire interstellar void. For the combined fleet, the Mystic Birds' strikes were devastating; four flagships had already been eliminated, leaving their squadrons without leadership, adding to the chaos.
Despite the disarray, Commander Ming Shi and Luo Heng managed to restore a semblance of order, guiding the fleet out of interstellar space.
"Scan the enemy fleet and notify the Star Giants to begin their assault!" Hua Qin ordered.
On the fringes of the New Humanity System, the Star Giants, lying in wait, accelerated into the fray, entering the radar range of both sides. Already fully charged, their primary and secondary cannons unleashed a barrage of beams, delivering yet another punishing wave of attacks.
Hua Qin's leadership style was different from Feng Mo's; rather than unleashing all weapons in a single barrage, she preferred a relentless, wave-like assault, building pressure over time.
"Enemy flagship count remaining: fourteen. Combined fleet strength: thirty-two near-T6 ships, 2,743 T5 ships, and 1,490 T5 mechanical vessels. Total remaining starships: 4,279," reported an officer.
Hua Qin nodded, pleased with the result. Out of the twenty-one squadrons—averaging between 300 and 400 ships each—the enemy's losses approached a third of their original seven thousand-plus fleet. This success underscored the advantage of seizing the initiative and deploying specialized ships.
Without the nine T5 Pegasi and Mystic Birds, this initial attack might have destroyed only a thousand ships. Still, Hua Qin remained grounded, knowing the battle was far from over. Her approach, with attacks in waves, ensured the next barrage—primed with stardestroyer cannons and freshly charged primary and secondary cannons—was ready to strike.
Meanwhile, back at Torrent Prime, the atmosphere was quite the contrast, filled with the luxurious, decadent vibe of a grand feast. Feng Mo deftly deflected the Mingye Emperor's frequent toasts, maintaining an appearance of playfulness with two beautiful alien women lounging at his sides.
Though he certainly appreciated beauty, Feng Mo wasn't so easily swayed. It was all an act—keeping up appearances. While feigning drunkenness, his eyes glinted with calculating intent.
At his side, Tot the Giant was both entertaining and keeping a close watch on the battle at the New Humanity System. Hearing the reports of the fleet's success and the strategic deployment of specialized ships, Tot relaxed, joining Feng Mo in his act.
They had no intention of losing the upper hand here.
