Chapter 254: Chapter 254: Return to the Frostmoon
Upon returning to the main planet of the Moonfrost System, Feng Mo immediately called Ai Er and Alisa into his office. Glancing at them, he began, "Alisa, the schematics for the Deer-Swift-Class carrier have already been sent to Hurricane Prime. Your job now is to understand it fully and proceed with the construction. We've made arrangements with the two main factions in the Celestial Eclipse Starfield, so materials and resources will be arriving steadily. Ai Er will handle the logistics."
"Yes, my lord! I'll head back to the Hurricane System at once, and once the Deer-Swift is ready, you'll be the first to witness its maiden voyage!" Alisa replied enthusiastically, practically bursting with excitement. For her, nothing rivaled the allure of a new starship design.
Feng Mo waved her off, allowing her to leave, and she did so with a bright smile before skipping out of the office.
As soon as Alisa left, Ai Er approached Feng Mo, sitting on his lap and gently offering her insights. "The Federation's political landscape is getting tense. The factions are itching for conflict, with the Interstellar Mechanoids and the Pan-Human Alliance both positioning for open war with the Federation."
"Since the formation of the Storm Alliance, the larger empires within the Federation have increasingly disregarded Federation orders," she continued. "It's clear everyone's just waiting to carve up the Federation."
Feng Mo nodded, recognizing her wisdom. The Federation was fractured among various factions: the Pan-Human Alliance, the Storm Alliance, the southern and northern war zones, and two central empires, all on the brink of action. However, Feng Mo knew that the Storm Alliance, as the largest and most powerful faction, could not afford to make the first move—becoming a target for every other faction.
"Although we must avoid striking first, make sure no one becomes complacent. Also, notify the three other empires in the Storm Alliance that I need star maps—comprehensive maps of the surrounding territories, as detailed as possible."
Feng Mo's desire for these maps stemmed from his lack of information. With the Storm Empire's expansion, he had little guidance on where to advance next. Moreover, he needed clarity on the true extent of the Interstellar Mechanoids, Beastkin, and Insectoid realms. Were these just branches of much larger entities?
This question fueled Feng Mo's curiosity, pushing him to uncover the mysteries beyond the Federation's borders. By the third day after his return, the three empires shared their databases with the Storm Empire, revealing many classified secrets.
The Interstellar Mechanoids held around a dozen star systems, not as vast as the Storm Empire's territory, but their technology was formidable. The Federation's intelligence indicated they possessed a T6 Mechanoid fleet. Feng Mo surmised that the Mechanoids, if not for the Storm Empire's T6 fleet, might already have allied with the Pan-Human Alliance to invade the Federation.
Feng Mo realized that the Storm Empire's demonstration of strength during the Celestial Eclipse campaign had likely given the Federation a much-needed reprieve. Yet he knew the Mechanoids wouldn't stay dormant forever; their incursion was a matter of time.
And, just as Feng Mo anticipated, within three months of his return, the Interstellar Mechanoids and the Pan-Human Alliance amassed fleets near the Vermillion Interstellar Fortress and a central war zone fortress, marking their intent to advance.
The Federation, sensing the threat, called on the empires to rally defenses, even sending an appeal to the Storm Empire. Feng Mo, however, felt no obligation to respond. The Federation Council had ignored him during their last assembly, so he saw no reason to support them now.
He did, however, feel compelled to protect the Radiant Empire in the east, as it was a member of the Storm Alliance. Summoning Ai Er once more, Feng Mo laid out his strategy.
"Ai Er, the Mechanoids and the Pan-Human Alliance are preparing to invade the Federation. The Radiant Empire, as a member of the Storm Alliance, must be defended. I've already issued an announcement to the other empires in the Alliance to ignore the Federation's call to arms and instead send their fleets to support the Radiant Empire."
"The Yunshan and Meteor Empires have pledged four T5 fleets each, and they're already en route. Meanwhile, we have six fleets, with three assigned to guard the Celestial Eclipse, Storm, and Frostwind Starfields. You'll lead the Storm Fleet and the Celestial Crystal Fleet to support the Radiant Empire."
Ai Er nodded without hesitation. "Understood. I'll immediately prepare both fleets and aim to deploy within a day."
Feng Mo felt assured. Of all his commanders, Ai Er was his most trusted. A battle-hardened general, her experience in star warfare even surpassed his own, and she possessed a tactical ruthlessness that made her highly effective.
With Ai Er in charge, the Radiant Empire would be secure. As for the Federation's fortresses, Feng Mo felt no obligation to assist. Should the Pan-Human Alliance seize those fortifications and press further into the Radiant Empire, he would have no qualms about deploying the Giant Starfleet and Celestial Night Fleet to eliminate the Pan-Human Alliance, expanding his territory in the process.
This confidence bolstered Feng Mo's resolve. The Pan-Human Alliance, seeing the Storm Empire's formidable T6 ships stationed on the Radiant Empire's borders, would likely avoid a direct confrontation. They would probably divert toward the Southern War Zone, planning to encircle it in tandem with the Mechanoids.
In truth, Feng Mo welcomed such a scenario. The Southern War Zone had long shown hostility toward him, a sentiment he recalled vividly from the last Federation Council meeting. Norley, one of his advisors, had voiced her frustrations regarding their attitude, and Feng Mo remembered it well.
If they harbored hostility, the Storm Alliance would reciprocate. Actions have consequences, and Feng Mo intended to see justice served.
Most notably, there had been no shift on his Ember Mission panel, and no temporary missions had been issued, indicating that his
strategy aligned with his overarching goals.
