Starting as a Ninja in the Naruto World

Chapter 20: Dance Freely Here, Nine-Tails!

Emiya Shigen.

The greatest medical ninja in history.

Madara Uchiha didn't think much of becoming a medical ninja himself.

However, as a child, during his friendship with Hashirama Senju, he had often heard the name Emiya Shigen. Memories from his past came rushing back, fragments of a simpler time.

"Madara!"

"Have you heard of the story of Emiya Shigen?"

"Our clan has passed down the tales of Lord Emiya Shigen!"

"Eh… you've heard them too?"

"To endure the pain others cannot and to save those suffering from it—that is the path of the ninja that Lord Emiya left for us!"

"Madara!"

"I saw it today! But don't tell anyone!"

"My family has one of the crystal coffins left behind by Lord Emiya!"

"Madara…"

"My father won't let me become a medical ninja…"

"And with my brother Itama gone, learning medical ninjutsu won't protect the people I care about. A medical ninja can't change the turmoil of this era."

The memories seemed to drift away like wind-scattered leaves.

Madara had nearly forgotten these moments—nearly forgotten that Hashirama, even as a boy, had abandoned his childish ideals.

Emiya Shigen.

A saint of ancient times.

The most skilled medical ninja ever to live.

Now Madara understood why Konoha would want to conceal Emiya's identity. That schemer Tobirama had undoubtedly devised some sinister forbidden jutsu to revive this legendary figure.

Indeed…

Only Emiya Shigen could heal Hashirama.

"I see…"

A flicker of realization crossed Madara's face.

Learning that his opponent was the famous sage of legend, Madara no longer felt embarrassed by his earlier defeat. It wasn't shameful to lose to someone so extraordinary.

However, it was time to leave Konoha.

"Madara!"

A red-armored figure descended swiftly, landing nearby.

"You're still alive!"

Hashirama Senju appeared, nearly fully armed. His gaze locked onto Madara, his expression a mix of astonishment and turmoil.

The friend he had killed with his own hands had returned.

Determined to stop the Susano'o's rampage, Hashirama had ignored his injuries and rushed to the scene.

"So quick to arrive… Hashirama."

As Hashirama appeared, Madara's attention shifted instinctively, his gaze lingering on his old friend standing below.

"Hm? You are…"

Hashirama's eyes flicked toward Shigen.

The stranger's profile seemed oddly familiar—perhaps it was the doctor who had treated him earlier? Or was it someone else, another good-hearted individual he'd once encountered?

As Hokage, Hashirama prided himself on remembering every villager, even the children.

This man wasn't from Konoha, nor an enemy, but he seemed shrouded in a strange, deathly aura.

"I am…"

Shigen stepped forward to introduce himself.

"Quickly, take shelter! Leave this to me!"

Hashirama interrupted, giving orders before focusing his attention back on Madara.

His eyes locked onto Madara's face, and the sight of the Uchiha's pale, blind eye filled him with shock.

"Madara, your eye…"

"No need for curiosity."

"It's the price I paid to escape death at your hands," Madara said coldly. His clenched fists trembled before he opened and closed them, straining to draw out his remaining strength. "I only came to say a few words, but now it seems things have become more complicated."

Indeed, the situation had grown troublesome.

Hashirama, ever persistent, was a problem that couldn't be shaken.

Boom!

The fractured Susano'o began to repair itself, forming once again into its towering third-stage shape.

"Wood Style!"

Hashirama clasped his hands together. Massive vines burst from the ground, winding toward Susano'o's limbs.

"This again!"

Madara scowled, clenching his fist. A glowing blue sword materialized in Susano'o's hand, slicing through the entangling vines.

The battle had resumed.

This was the continuation of their previous life-or-death clash.

"Hashirama…"

Mito Uzumaki watched with concern.

"Your injuries aren't fully healed. If you keep using chakra like this—"

"I have no choice!"

Hashirama's tone was resolute as he cut her off.

"Leave this place, Mito! I'm glad Madara's alive, but this time, I must finish him once and for all!"

"You think you can kill me again?"

Madara's voice rang out from Susano'o, his expression twisted with grim resolve.

Boom!

Massive tendrils of wood burst forth from the ground, trying to ensnare Susano'o again.

Hashirama gritted his teeth. He would not let Madara escape. Not again.

Even at the cost of his own life, he had to end this. Madara's return posed a threat too great to ignore.

"I'll see about that…"

Madara's fingers danced through a sequence of hand seals, his movements deliberate despite the battle's chaos.

"What's he doing now?"

Hashirama's brow furrowed.

Both he and Mito could sense something sinister in the air.

"Hashirama," Madara taunted, his voice chillingly calm.

"In battles like ours, even the slightest misstep is fatal. Even the smallest intervention can tip the scales…"

"And what if that intervention…"

"…is the most fearsome force in the world?"

Both Hashirama and Mito froze, dread creeping into their hearts.

"No!"

They realized what was happening, but it was too late.

Madara had finished his hand seals.

"Summoning Jutsu!"

With a heavy slap, Madara's palm struck Susano'o, and a massive plume of smoke erupted.

The shockwave sent Konoha's ninja sprawling and blanketed the village in a suffocating fog.

"Dance freely here…"

Madara's voice echoed through the chaos, tinged with malevolence.

"…Nine-Tails!"

From the dissipating smoke emerged a colossal figure with nine thrashing tails.

The most fearsome tailed beast in the world had been unleashed.
