Chapter 11: Chapter 11 Flow Like Water, Dodge Like You Mean It
Another week had passed, and with it came another login streak reward.
The moment my hand touched the system interface that morning, a strange sensation settled over me. It wasn't overwhelming like my other rewards—no sudden surge of power, no ridiculous buff that made me question the laws of physics.
Instead, it was clarity.
[Login Streak Reward: Flow State Acquired!]
A zone of focus and clarity where your mind and body operate in extreme conjunction. Whether you're solving problems, competing, or performing, you're always functioning at the peak of your natural abilities. Distractions fade away, hesitation disappears, and every action feels exact and precise.
I blinked.
No gimmicks. No cursed weapons. No unnecessary weirdness.
Just pure, uninterrupted focus.
I flicked a shuriken across the room toward a tiny crack in the wooden wall. The weapon spun through the air, hit the exact spot I aimed for, and bounced back.
I caught it effortlessly.
Oh.
This was very nice.
Finally, something practical.
No weird weapons. No questionable side effects. Just straight-up focus. I could already feel the difference—everything felt... smoother. My movements, my thoughts, even my breathing. It was like I had been living with static in my brain, and now someone had tuned the signal perfectly.
And today, of all days, I actually had time to test it out.
Because, for once, we didn't have a mission.
A full day off. No escorting merchants, no chasing demon children, and—most importantly—no war. I should have been able to enjoy this in peace.
Should have.
Because fate had other plans.
And by "fate," I meant Might Guy.
I was walking through the training grounds, minding my own business, testing out my new ability with some casual target practice. Shuriken, kunai, even pebbles—every throw landed exactly where I wanted.
It was perfect.
Then, in the distance, I heard the sound.
A very specific, very loud sound.
"KAKASHI!!!"
I sighed. Here we go.
A green blur shot toward me at full speed, kicking up dust and shaking the very foundation of my peace. I had about half a second before impact. Normally, I'd dodge out of the way, but now?
With Flow State activated?
I didn't even flinch.
At the last possible moment, I casually sidestepped, and Guy went flying past me, crashing face-first into a tree.
There was a long pause.
Then, from the dirt, a muffled, determined voice:
"...As expected of my eternal rival!"
I pinched the bridge of my nose.
"Guy," I sighed. "What do you want?"
Guy leapt to his feet, giving me a thumbs-up and a blinding smile. "Today is a day of youth! And what better way to celebrate youth than a competition between rivals!"
I stared at him. "We're not rivals."
"That's exactly what a rival would say!"
I exhaled slowly. This was going to be one of those days.
Guy grinned. "We shall compete in a test of skill, strength, and willpower! And today's challenge shall be—"
He paused dramatically.
I waited.
He kept pausing.
"...Guy."
He coughed. "Uh. Right. Today's challenge shall be... A TREE CLIMBING RACE!"
I blinked. "...What."
"Whoever reaches the top of that tree first wins!" He pointed to one of the tallest trees in the training ground.
I stared at him. "You do know we're shinobi, right? We literally walk on trees."
"Ah, but not without chakra!" Guy declared, striking a dramatic pose. "This will be a pure test of physical ability!"
I was about to say no.
I should have said no.
But then Obito showed up.
"Yo, Kakashi—" Obito stopped mid-sentence, taking in the scene. His gaze flicked from Guy, to me, to the tree, then back to Guy.
Then, a slow, evil grin spread across his face.
"Ohhh, this is amazing." He clapped his hands. "Kakashi, you have to do this."
I frowned. "No, I really don't."
"Yes, you do." He turned to Guy. "Guy, you're totally gonna beat him, right?"
Guy grinned. "Of course! I shall defeat Kakashi with the power of youth!"
Obito snorted. "Kakashi, are you seriously gonna let him say that?"
I narrowed my eye. "...I hate you."
"I know," Obito said cheerfully.
Rin walked up next, taking one look at the situation before sighing. "You guys are ridiculous."
"Welcome to my life," I muttered.
Rin giggled. "You should do it, Kakashi. It might be fun!"
Fun.
That was a strong word.
But I also knew that if I didn't do this, Obito was never going to let me hear the end of it.
I sighed. "Fine. Let's just get this over with."
Guy beamed. "YES! THE FLAMES OF YOUTH BURN BRIGHT!"
Obito fist-pumped. "This is the best day of my life."
Rin clapped. "Good luck, both of you!"
I adjusted my gloves, mentally preparing. This is stupid. This is pointless. This is—
Guy took off at full speed.
"HEY!"
I bolted after him.
Climbing a tree without chakra was significantly harder than using the Tree Walking exercise. Especially at this height.
It required actual grip strength, balance, and sheer willpower to not fall and break my spine.
Luckily for me, I had Flow State.
My movements were precise, my grip perfectly adjusted, my footing exactly where it needed to be. Guy was fast—unnaturally fast—but I wasn't wasting a single motion.
Little by little, I closed the gap.
"Your skills are impressive, Kakashi!" Guy called out, swinging from a branch. "But I shall not lose! My youthful spirit will—GAH!"
A branch snapped under him.
For a split second, Guy flailed midair.
I reached out, grabbing his wrist before he could plummet.
He blinked. "...Oh."
I sighed. "Would you just climb already?"
Guy's face lit up. "KAKASHI! YOU TRULY ARE MY GREATEST RIVAL!"
I groaned. "We're not rivals."
Obito yelled from below. "Hey! Less flirting, more climbing!"
I almost let Guy go out of spite.
In the end, we both reached the top at the exact same time.
I blamed Flow State. If it weren't for my perfect efficiency, I probably would have beaten him outright.
Guy was absolutely thrilled about this.
"THIS PROVES IT!" he announced dramatically. "WE ARE DESTINED RIVALS! FATED TO PUSH EACH OTHER TO GREATER HEIGHTS!"
I was too tired to argue.
Obito, meanwhile, was losing his mind laughing. "Oh, man. That was the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I love it."
Rin smiled. "You both did great!"
I sat down on the branch, rubbing my temple. "Never again."
Guy gasped. "Does that mean you accept our next challenge?!"
I stared at him.
"...I'm going home."
I jumped off the tree and walked away.
Obito wiped tears from his eyes. "Oh, this is definitely going in the records."
Rin giggled.
Guy yelled after me. "FEAR NOT, KAKASHI! OUR RIVALRY SHALL BURN FOR ETERNITY!"
I didn't look back.
This was not what I planned for my day off.
The next day
I arrived at the training grounds early, already anticipating whatever hellish drills Minato-sensei had planned for us.
As expected, Obito was the last to show up.
"Haaah… haaah…" He stumbled forward, hands on his knees. "I—I overslept! Again!"
Rin smiled. "Good morning, Obito!"
I sighed. "You do this every time."
"I was up late training, okay?! Hard work takes time!"
Minato-sensei, ever patient, simply smiled. "That's good to hear. Because today's focus is speed and reaction training."
Obito grinned. "Oh, I got this!"
Minato chuckled. "That's great! Because you'll be dodging kunai."
Obito's smile disappeared. "Wait, what?"
"Alright, begin!"
Minato vanished in a golden blur.
Then—
A storm of kunai came flying toward us.
Rin yelped and immediately leapt back. I activated Flow State, and suddenly—
Everything slowed down.
I saw each kunai's trajectory. My muscles adjusted without hesitation. I sidestepped one, tilted my head to avoid another, twisted my body between two more—
Every movement felt natural, effortless.
Meanwhile, Obito—
"GYAAAAAH—!"
—was absolutely struggling.
He flailed around, dodging by sheer luck as kunai embedded themselves into the ground around him.
Minato reappeared, looking far too entertained by this. "Good! Keep moving, keep adjusting—"
"I'M ADJUSTING TO DEATH!"
Minato ignored him. "Kakashi, your reaction time is excellent. Rin, good positioning. Obito… um… keep trying!"
"I AM TRYING!" Obito shrieked, barely ducking in time to avoid another kunai.
I sighed. "You're moving like a drunk civilian."
"Shut up!"
Twenty minutes later, Rin and I had improved significantly. Flow State let me react at maximum efficiency, and Rin's dodging became sharper with Minato's guidance.
Obito, however…
"ARGHHH—!"
…was still getting wrecked.
He lay facedown in the dirt, twitching. A single kunai was lodged right next to his head, and his goggles were now completely crooked.
Minato crouched beside him, smiling. "Good effort!"
"I saw my ancestors," Obito muttered.
Minato patted his back. "Let's go again."
"Why do you hate me, Sensei…?"
I stood nearby, arms crossed. "You wanted harder training."
Obito weakly pointed at me. "Shut up, Mr. 'I'm Dodging Like a Teleporting God'—"
I shrugged. "Maybe if you actually had better reflexes—"
"I SAID SHUT UP!"
By the end of the session, Minato finally let us take a break.
I had never felt more in sync with my own movements before. Even the smallest adjustments felt right, every step calculated.
This reward was already proving invaluable.
Even better?
Obito had learned absolutely nothing.
"Haaah…" He collapsed on the grass. "I… hate… training…"
Minato chuckled. "But you're improving, Obito!"
Obito turned his head. "Am I?"
Rin sat beside him, giggling. "Of course! You lasted way longer before falling over!"
Obito groaned into the dirt.
I smirked. "Flow like water, dodge like you mean it."
Obito lifted a fist. "Kakashi… I swear… the moment I recover… I'm fighting you."
I casually leaned back. "Looking forward to it."
He groaned again.
Minato clapped his hands. "Alright, let's wrap up here! You all did great today!"
I watched Obito struggle to sit up, completely destroyed from training.
Honestly?
I was kind of looking forward to tomorrow.
