Chapter 7: Chapter 7 What the Hell is a Pink Muscle?

Morning. Again.

I was getting used to waking up like this—sore, slightly annoyed, and vaguely dreading whatever ridiculous task Minato-sensei had planned for the day.

But today was different.

Today marked a full week of continuous logins.

And that meant—

[Weekly Login Reward: Minor Power—Pink Muscles]

I blinked.

A rush of information flooded my mind, like a muscle anatomy textbook had just been crammed into my skull at light speed. My muscles… had changed. Not just stronger. Not just faster. Better.

I clenched my fist.

The strength of white fast-twitch fibers. The endurance of red slow-twitch fibers. No wasted mass. Maximum efficiency.

I flexed experimentally. My arm didn't look any different, but I felt it.

Lighter. Denser. More controlled.

I stood up and took a step—

And nearly faceplanted into the wall.

Oh.

My body reacted too fast. Too efficiently. Like I had perfectly calibrated hydraulics instead of human limbs.

This was… a lot.

I took a deep breath. Alright. New power. Adapt. Figure it out.

And most importantly—

Don't let Obito notice.

I arrived at the meeting spot, expecting another mind-numbing D-rank.

Instead, Minato-sensei stood there, serious. The kind of serious that made my stomach drop.

"We have a new mission," he said. "This one is related to the war."

My fingers clenched slightly.

Obito groaned. "Finally! I was getting sick of these dumb babysitting jobs!"

I stayed quiet.

Rin, ever the peacemaker, smiled gently. "Sensei, what's the mission?"

Minato handed me the scroll. "A scouting operation near the border. We're to investigate enemy movement in a nearby outpost and report back. No direct combat unless absolutely necessary."

I let out a breath. A reconnaissance mission. Not direct battle. Not yet.

That should've reassured me.

It didn't.

We moved fast, covering ground quickly. The terrain shifted from the familiar forests of Konoha to rougher, more treacherous ground.

Obito, of course, would not shut up.

"Kakashi, why do you look so tense? You scared?"

I side-eyed him. "No."

Yes.

Obito smirked. "Hah! Knew it!"

I exhaled. "You are so annoying."

"Correction: I am so right."

Rin giggled. "Obito, don't tease him."

"Why not? This is the first time I've had the upper hand!"

Minato glanced back at us. "Alright, enough chatter. We're close."

I let the conversation die.

The closer we got, the heavier the air felt.

A war mission.

Not a training session. Not a cabbage cart. Not chasing a five-year-old.

This is real.

I tightened my grip on my kunai.

We stopped at a ridge, overlooking the enemy outpost. Minato motioned for us to stay low.

From our position, we could see several enemy shinobi moving below. Too many for a simple patrol.

"Something's off," I murmured.

Minato nodded. "Agreed. This isn't normal movement."

Obito frowned. "So what do we do? Attack?"

I shot him a look. "We report back. That's the mission."

Obito grumbled. "Tch. Feels like we should do something."

"That something will get us killed," I muttered.

Rin gave me a worried glance but said nothing.

Minato made a decision. "Kakashi, take Obito and scout the perimeter. Rin and I will stay here and observe from this angle."

I nodded. "Understood."

Obito huffed. "Fine, but if we run into trouble, I am fighting."

I didn't respond.

I just had a feeling—

This mission wasn't going to be simple.

We moved swiftly, sticking to the tree line. The enemy outpost below was a cluster of tents and small wooden structures, nothing too advanced, but the number of shinobi stationed there was worrying.

Obito and I moved along the perimeter, keeping low. I had to adjust my steps because my Pink Muscles kept making me overshoot my movements. At one point, I tried landing softly on a branch and nearly sent myself flying into a tree.

Obito, thankfully, was too busy complaining to notice.

"Man, this mission is boring," he whispered.

I stared at him. "You do realize that's a good thing, right?"

He scoffed. "Maybe for you, Mr. 'Play It Safe.' But I came here to prove myself!"

I sighed. "You will prove yourself if you follow the mission correctly. Our job is to scout, not fight."

He muttered something under his breath but didn't argue further.

We circled around, scanning for hidden threats. So far, nothing unusual. Just patrols, some supply crates, and a few enemy shinobi playing some kind of board game.

I was just about to call it a success when—

Thunk!

A kunai embedded itself into the tree trunk right next to Obito's face.

His eyes widened. "...Oh crap."

A group of enemy shinobi emerged from the bushes. Three of them. Their headbands marked them as Iwagakure.

"Well, well," the lead one sneered. "What do we have here? Konoha brats sneaking around where they shouldn't be?"

Obito immediately reached for his kunai. "Who are you calling a brat?!"

I resisted the urge to strangle him.

"We're not here to fight," I said calmly. "We were just passing through."

The Iwa-nin grinned. "Is that so? Because it looks like you were spying."

Obito growled. "Maybe because we were!"

I nearly choked. WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT?!

The enemy shinobi's grin widened. "Well then, guess we'll have to deal with you."

I exhaled sharply. "Obito, you idiot."

"Hey! They were gonna attack anyway!"

I pulled out a kunai. "We could have talked our way out."

"That sounds boring!"

The Iwa-nin charged.

So much for a simple mission.

The first enemy came straight for me. I dodged—too fast. My new muscles kicked in, and I overcompensated, suddenly behind him instead of just sidestepping.

For a split second, we both just stared at each other.

Then I punched him.

And he went flying into a tree.

Silence.

Even Obito stopped mid-attack to gape at me. "…Dude."

The second Iwa-nin hesitated. I took advantage of his momentary shock and closed the distance in a flash, landing a precise kick to his chest. He crumpled.

Obito, finally snapping out of it, turned to the last enemy. "Looks like you're all alone now, buddy!"

The remaining Iwa-nin took one look at his unconscious teammates and bolted.

Obito blinked. "Hey! Get back here!"

"Let him go," I muttered, shaking out my fist.

Obito frowned. "But what if he—wait." He pointed at me. "WHAT WAS THAT?! SINCE WHEN COULD YOU PUNCH PEOPLE INTO TREES?!"

I coughed. "Uh. Training."

"TRAINING MY—"

Minato and Rin appeared.

"Everything alright?" Minato asked, immediately noticing the unconscious shinobi.

I coughed. "Uh… we ran into some trouble."

Obito pointed aggressively at me. "HE PUNCHED A GUY INTO A TREE!"

Minato blinked. "Oh?"

Rin gasped. "Kakashi, you're really strong!"

I shrugged, acting casual. "Just… improving."

Minato gave me a knowing look but didn't press. "Good work. Let's finish the mission and get back."

Obito crossed his arms. "Tch. Next time, I'm gonna punch a guy into a tree."

I sighed. "Please don't."

Mission complete.

And somehow, I was more exhausted than after any D-rank.

After the unexpected chaos of our "simple" mission, we finally made our way back to Konoha. The sun was starting to set, casting a golden hue over the village gates as we approached.

I exhaled in relief. Home.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not scared of the battlefield or anything— okay, maybe a little—but if the choice is between war and dealing with Obito's nonsense on the way back to the village, I'd pick Obito. Probably.

I glanced over at him, and he was already running his mouth.

"Did you see how that guy ran away?!" Obito cackled, walking backward so he could dramatically gesture while talking. "He looked at us and just booked it! Man, we were so intimidating!"

"We?" I muttered, adjusting my headband.

Obito ignored me. "We must've been terrifying! Like, 'Oh no, it's Obito Uchiha and his sidekick Kakashi, run for your lives!'"

I nearly tripped. "Sidekick?"

Minato chuckled. "Obito, I think Kakashi was the one who—"

"That's right, Sensei!" Obito interrupted. "He did do something cool for once! I mean, punching a guy into a tree? That's how you make an entrance!"

Rin giggled. "I think it was more of an exit."

Obito pointed dramatically at her. "Exactly! That guy exited reality for a few minutes!"

I sighed. "You were knocked flat on your back two seconds into the fight."

Obito crossed his arms. "That was a strategy."

Minato smiled. "Oh? What kind of strategy?"

Obito faltered for a second, then straightened up. "Uh. You see, by pretending to be weak, I lured them into a false sense of security! Classic deception tactic!"

Rin clapped her hands together. "Ohhh! So you planned to get punched in the face?"

Obito twitched. "…Yes?"

I snorted. "Tactical face-tanking. Genius."

Obito groaned. "You guys just don't understand art when you see it!"

As we finally passed through Konoha's gates, one of the guards gave us a knowing nod. "Back from another big mission, huh?"

Obito grinned. "You bet! We fought off, like, ten enemy shinobi!"

I sighed. "Three."

Minato smiled politely. "It was just a scouting mission."

"Yeah, but Kakashi punched a guy into a tree!" Obito shouted, pointing at me like I had just saved the world.

The guard raised an eyebrow. "…Is that so?"

I rubbed my temples. "Why are we still talking about this?"

Obito flung an arm around my shoulders. "Because, my dear sidekick, we have to spread the legend!"

Minato chuckled. "Alright, alright, let's report to the Hokage before you start exaggerating even more."

Obito gasped. "Sensei, how dare you accuse me of exaggeration?! I never exaggerate!"

Rin giggled. "Uh-huh."

I sighed again. I need a nap.

Inside the Hokage's office, we stood in front of Hiruzen as Minato gave our report.

"—And that's everything. We confirmed their numbers, patrol routes, and supply locations."

Hiruzen nodded thoughtfully, then turned to me. "I heard you performed exceptionally well, Kakashi."

I tensed. Who snitched?

Before I could respond, Obito threw an arm around me again. "Ohhh, you should've seen him! Boom! One punch! Straight into a tree! The guy fainted from the sheer force of his existence!"

Hiruzen's lips twitched like he was trying not to laugh. "That impressive, huh?"

I sighed. "Please don't encourage him."

Rin smiled. "It was pretty cool."

Minato chuckled. "They both did well."

Hiruzen nodded, seemingly satisfied. "Good work, all of you. Go rest up—you've earned it."

I barely heard the last part before Obito was already dragging me out the door. "Come on! We need to celebrate!"

"Celebrate what?" I muttered.

"Your moment of coolness, obviously! It might never happen again!"

I shoved him off. "I'll make sure it happens when I punch you into a tree."

Obito cackled. "Not if I dodge first!"

Minato and Rin just smiled as we walked off into the village, another mission done.

I'm just glad it wasn't worse.
