Chapter 16: Chapter 16: The Verbal Battle Before the Competition is an Essential Part of Communication
Tony stood in front of the experimental site he had built.
A massive support structure stood in the middle of the venue.
Beneath it, a two-meter-tall giant stood covered by a wide black cloth. The edges of the cloth lifted slightly, revealing a vaguely human-like shape.
It was obviously Tony's armor.
"You should feel honored."
Tony spread his arms wide. "You're about to witness the debut of the world's greatest masterpiece! And you'll witness it twice!"
Leon didn't deny it. "It seems so. Go on, start your performance."
Tony's expression became serious. Keeping his arms open, he commanded, "Let's get started, Jarvis."
Crack!
At his command, several mechanical arms extended from the bracket behind him, peeling away the black cloth.
A steel-colored battle armor was revealed.
Its gleaming metallic surface reflected sunlight like rippling water, instantly brightening the basement. The mechanical arms continued moving, removing parts of the armor one by one before assembling them onto Tony.
The iron plates, as if alive, overlapped and wrapped around his body.
Once fully suited, the mechanical arms retreated. The armor's eyes lit up with a faint glow.
Swish! Air spurted from the gaps between the plates, as if the suit was breathing.
"Look! This is my armor!" Tony spread his arms. Flames spurted from the soles of his feet and the palms of his hands simultaneously.
Hovering in the air, he declared, "This is Mark II! Now, I can fly too!"
"Wow, cool!" Leon couldn't help but admire the metallic masterpiece.
Jarvis' voice chimed in at an inopportune moment. "Mr. Stark, the Mark II's flight function still requires further testing."
"No, no, no, Jarvis. Sometimes, we have to run before we learn to walk." Tony dismissed the warning.
Clearly, he couldn't wait to take to the skies.
Floating in the air, Tony flipped up his visor and looked at Leon. "The Mark II is equipped with flight stabilizers, palm repulsors, and other cutting-edge technology. It's thirty years ahead of its time."
"Now, it's your turn. Where's your armor?"
Leon didn't answer immediately. Instead, he walked around Tony, inspecting the suit.
"Composed entirely of titanium steel, powered by a new energy source, and integrated with the Jarvis system... It truly is a masterpiece beyond its era."
Then, he abruptly changed the subject. "But it's not enough. I noticed you had gold among your spare materials, yet you didn't use it. That will be a failure."
Tony frowned. "Why would I add gold? That's completely unnecessary."
"In a few minutes, you'll see why." Leon's eyes lost their admiration as he rolled up his sleeves, revealing two glowing bracelets.
"Look, this is my armor. Jarvis, start the program!"
Beep!
A sharp electronic sound rang out. The bracelets on Leon's wrists glowed red.
From below, the floor of the garage rumbled, followed by the clatter of various objects breaking apart.
Tony raised an eyebrow. "Something just broke in my lab. What are you doing?"
"Well... there may be some minor routing issues. But look—it's coming!"
Leon suddenly floated up, spreading his arms.
A red and blue oval-shaped flying capsule spewing flames shot into the garage.
Tony started to tease, "Is your armor just a big iron can? That's really—" but he stopped mid-sentence, eyes widening.
The flight capsule began disassembling mid-air.
Pieces of the armor extended outward, igniting bursts of flame, and seamlessly attached themselves to Leon's back.
One by one, red and blue plates fitted onto his body with pinpoint precision.
Finally, the armor took its complete form: a sleek battle suit with a blue base and red highlights.
The eyes of the armor lit up, and every component adjusted in sync with Leon's movements, as if it were alive.
It was a work of steel art—a perfect fusion of strength and elegance.
With the final pieces in place, jets of flame burst from the soles and back, keeping Leon airborne.
He pointed to various parts of the suit, explaining his new capabilities. "My armor is controlled via these bracelets. When not in use, it remains in flight mode and can provide remote support."
"While it doesn't carry weapons yet, I've reserved multiple slots for future upgrades."
"Most importantly, it has a propulsion system on the back, allowing hands-free flight for combat or... casual waving."
"It also features various auxiliary functions, including a liquid filtration system for—"
Even though Tony was already in shock, he quickly interrupted. "Wait, wait, wait. That last part was disgusting. Are you saying you can pee in your armor? That's gross!"
"Oh, really? I thought you'd appreciate that feature." Leon's tone was deadpan.
How could he not know Tony?
In the movies, Tony had boasted about this exact function. Now, seeing Leon show it off first, he was clearly trying to deflect.
"Appreciate it? Are you kidding? That's a disgrace to the armor!" Tony said, pretending to be offended.
Leon raised an eyebrow. "So, I won this competition, right?"
He started counting on his fingers. "Your armor has fewer features, it's harder to put on, and—"
"No, no, no, Leon. You're missing the point."
Tony quickly defended himself. "A battle suit is a weapon. Its main function is combat. Extra abilities are a waste of time."
"So?" Leon gestured for him to continue.
"So, when comparing armors, we should judge their performance—things like speed, adaptability, and power."
Leon considered this for a moment before making up his mind. "Then let's test them. I suggest we fly together and see who goes faster and farther!"
Tony snapped his fingers. "Sounds good to me."
"Alright, let's head outside. Jarvis will give the signal, and then—" Leon activated his thrusters and shot out of the garage.
Tony hesitated. "Wait... Leon, are you seriously challenging me in an aerial race?"
Leon stopped midair and smirked. "How else would we compete?"
